The name change reflects the change of duties and focus over the years. The OCFA will continue to conduct fire inspections and work hard to prevent fires, but the OCFA does so much more than that. The name change gives our community a clearer picture of what the OCFA is all about. The focus of our efforts is to reduce the risks in our community. Whether that is building and maintaining safe structures, managing vegetation, water safety education, apartment safety, or determining the cause of fires, the services we provide protect our community. The OCFA is an all-hazard fire agency and we all have a role in community safety.

3 3 P age MONTH END REPORT DECEMBER 2013 Significant Emergency Incidents for December 2013 Technical Rescue-December 2 nd Incident Commander: Chief Phillips OCFA crews were dispatched at 6:29 p.m. to a Technical Rescue response on South Main Street in Santa Ana. First arriving units found a female trapped between two buildings and determined that this would be a significant rescue. An additional two US&R trucks from Orange County Fire were requested along with the US&R Support from Orange City Fire. The patient was successfully removed from between the buildings at 7:40 p.m. and transported to a local area hospital for treatment of her injuries. Structure Fire-December 5 th Cause: Accidental/Mechanical Failure in Hydraulic Forge Press Incident Commander: Chief Phillips Structure Fire-December 8 th Cause: Accidental Incident Commander: Chief Phillips Structure Fire-December 11 th Cause: Accidental/Fireplace Incident Commander: Chief Henery Structure Fire-December 12 th Cause: Under Investigation Incident Commander: Chief Phillips OCFA crews were dispatched at 1:08 p.m. to a structure fire in the area of South Kilson Drive and East Alton in Santa Ana. Engine 79 went on scene at East Alton of a large single story commercial building with smoke and fire showing, reports of explosions inside the building and asked for the Second Alarm. Battalion 9 arrived on scene, took command, and asked for the Third Alarm at 1:14 p.m. Due to possible run off issues the Hazardous Materials Team, City Health Department and County Health were requested to the scene. Santa Ana PD and Edison were requested to assist at the scene also. The fire was brought Under Control at 1:45 p.m. OCFA crews were dispatched at 2:52 p.m. to an automatic alarm on North Ross Street in Santa Ana. Engine 75 arrived on scene with light smoke showing from a 3-story multi-unit apartment building and requested a working structure response. A fire was found on the 3 rd floor with sprinkler activation. The assignment was augmented with a 2nd alarm and two additional medic units. It was reported under control at 3:28 P.M. An estimated 125 residents were evacuated and 14 units on 3 floors had water damage. The Red Cross responded to assist 5 displaced residents. OCFA crews were dispatched at 1:38 p.m. to a structure fire on East Pomona Street in Santa Ana. At 1:42 p.m., Battalion 9 arrived on scene and assumed the Pomona IC with smoke showing. The assignment was augmented to a working structure response for a possible attic fire. At 1:50 p.m., Engine 75 reported a primary all clear. At 1:54 p.m., Battalion 9 reported the fire knocked down. OCFA crews were dispatched at 9:20 p.m., ECC dispatched a structure response in the area of East 1st Street and North Cabrillo Park Street in Santa Ana. At 9:25 p.m., Truck 75 arrived on scene of a trailer fire in the parking lot. The assignment was

4 4 P age MONTH END REPORT DECEMBER 2013 cancelled with the exception of 1 additional engine and a code 3 ambulance for a civilian burn patient. The civilian burn patient was transported to Santa Ana Western Medical Center with Investigator 55 to follow up. Structure Fire-December 25 th Cause: Under Investigation Incident Commander: Chief Phillips Unknown Substance-December 30 th Incident Commander: Chief Henery OCFA crews were dispatched at 5:44 a.m. to a structure fire on South Artesia Street in Santa Ana. Battalion 9 arrived on scene at 5:50 a.m. with a fully involved 2-story single family residence. The assignment was then upgraded to a working structure response. The fire was handled with the first alarm assignment and was reported under control at 7 a.m. Four residents sustained minor burns, but only three were transported to Coastal Community Hospital. The Red Cross responded to assist with several displaced residents. OCFA crews were dispatched at 3:17 p.m. to assist the Santa Ana Police Department and the Orange County Sheriff s Department Bomb Squad with an unknown substance that had been located in a container. The Health Department inspector was requested to the scene and handed it over to law enforcement officials.
