5.2 Elective course structure The student can choose between a number of elective courses, which are offered and structured by the educational institution. The elective courses are offered as respectively elective courses according to specialisation and profile elective courses. Common to the elective courses is that they fulfil the overall purpose of the Programme and that they are contemporary in accordance with the competencies required by the fashion and lifestyle industry. This is why the choice of elective courses may vary from year to year. Specialisation elective courses (5 ECTS credits placed in a coherent period of 3 weeks) Through specialisation elective courses, the students get the opportunity to work thoroughly and to acquire competencies about certain relations within the selected subject/area. Specialisation elective courses are closely connected with each specialisation and give the students the possibility to acquire a higher level of specialisation. Profile elective courses (10 ECTS credits placed in a coherent period of 5 weeks) The purpose of the profile elective courses is to give the students the possibility of getting a differentiated, individual profile. The profile elective courses should give the students the possibility of acquiring competencies in other specialisations. The profile elective courses are based on concrete needs in the industry and give the students the possibility of profiling their speciality according to the needs present in the industry. That is, the profile elective courses should give the possibility to specialise further than the selected specialisation already does. Common to the elective courses is that they qualify the students to combine theories, working methods and problems related to practice. VIA Design has the right to cancel an elective course due to insufficient number of enrolled students. There must be a minimum of 18 students enrolled in order to establish an elective course. The choice of elective course is binding. 5.3 Course level Both elective courses are placed in continuation of each other in the beginning of 4th semester. 5.4 Elective courses In the beginning of 2nd semester, an elective courses fair is held, where the selection of elective courses will be announced publicly. The students have the possibility of completing the internship abroad, and in that connection, they can apply for Erasmus Funding. VIA Design offers guidance concerning this. 6.1 Purpose The purpose of the internship is for the student to acquire knowledge of the profession and achieve an understanding of the application of theories and methods in different business functions. 22/48
The student should be able to relate the theories and methods of the study to the practices of the profession. The internship gives the student the possibility of experiencing how the theories are applied in practice and how practice can result in the development of new theories. The internship should qualify the student to analyse, plan and carry out tasks/projects based on practical issues and problems. 6.2 Learning objectives Upon completion, students should have acquired knowledge about: Fundamental knowledge about applied theory and method within the profession Practice of the profession Concepts and methods and the application of them And an understanding of the relations between the different stages of the value chain of the company Upon completion, students should have Apply acquired tools and theories for the resolution of specific problems and issues Work with specific, disciplinary problems and solution proposals to relevant partners Communicate problems and solution proposals close to practice to partners and users Upon completion, students should have Handle development oriented situations within the profession Take part in disciplinary and multidisciplinary collaboration with a professional approach Acquire skills and new knowledge in relation to the profession in a structured coherence Reflect on their own qualifications and competencies in a practice context In interaction with the theoretical part of the Programme, the internship must strengthen the students learning and contribute to the fulfilment of the Programme objectives for learning outcomes. The stay abroad must primarily be planned at an institution, which VIA Design has entered an exchange agreement with. A written application must be sent to the relevant international coordinator at VIA Design. The application is at the same time seen as an application about preapproved credit transfer assuming that the student passes course modules equivalent to a minimum of 15 ECTS-credits. As long as the exchange stay takes place at one of VIA Design s partner universities, VIA Design will help with information and application. There is also the possibility of applying for economical support from Erasmus funding or other relevant resources through VIA Design.. 24/48
If the student chooses an institution outside of the frames of VIA Design s exchange agreements, the student is responsible for the contact with the institution and for acquiring sufficient evidence of the chosen relevance of the study/course. The student is also responsible for applying for credit transfer in connection with the stay. In both circumstances, VIA Design must approve the study relevance of the stay and the possibilities of credit transfer in relation to the student s compulsory specialisation in the Programme. VIA Design s approval about credit transfer, is based on an individual, disciplinary assessment of the relevance in relation to the compulsory specialisation (speciality). 7.1 Exchange agreements VIA Design has entered into agreements about transfer of credit with other Danish and foreign educational institutions. The teaching can, this way, be planned on the assumption that all students bring their own computer. It is a requirement that students participate actively during the study and take responsibility for their own learning needs, cf. section 9. During the study, the student acquires knowledge about working processes in the fashion and lifestyle industry, and this is done by studying and co-operating across the different specialities. The Programme is based on the intersection between design, business and technology. The teaching is organised as interaction between lectures, laboratory and workshop teaching and guidance, disciplinary as well as interdisciplinary. The students work both individually and in groups. The purpose is that the students become familiar with different working methods theoretically as well as practically, which creates coherence and understanding and contributes to the self-development of the students. TECHNOLOGY 26/48
The teaching is planned in semesters, which ensure progression in learning. The Programme is planned as a combination of theory and practice, which is why parts of the teaching may occur in workshops and laboratories or through company co-operation. There is, furthermore, much emphasis on new learning methods, including digital technology and flipped learning. During the study, the students acquire knowledge about working processes in the fashion and lifestyle industry by studying and co-operating across specialities. The study form at VIA Design is interdisciplinary and project oriented both across the individual courses within the speciality and across the different compulsory specialisations. This means that the student develops competencies within co-operation along and across the organisation and learns to work with development and management of projects. The varied working and teaching methods strengthen the student s knowledge building and contribute to practicing of interpersonal skills and insight in cross-organisational correlation. During the study, the student gets a close connection with the industry through lectures, company visits and project assignments. Through the internship in a company, the student gets a thorough knowledge of the industry and the opportunity to test what he/she has learned so far in the Programme. The student also has the opportunity to participate in thematised study trips through elective courses. Whether the trips go to Danish or foreign cities, the student will be presented to the industry and gain experiences and knowledge, which he/she may use in his/her further career within the fashion and lifestyle industry. Learning and study intensity are supported by the fact that lecturers work with different teaching methods from the model for active participation in studies, which can be found on the VIA Study net under Study materials. 10 Guidelines for differentiation in teaching The Programme is planned with a variety of teaching methods, which consider each student s learning style and motivation and support completion of the Programme. In common, core projects and speciality projects, academic guidance is offered based on the content of the assignment and the different academic qualifications and needs of the student. The academic guidance supports the individual student or student group through structured conversations in relation to the assignment, course, method and learning objectives. 11 Credit transfer Passed educational components are equivalent to corresponding educational components offered by other educational institutions offering the Programme. The student has a duty to inform the educational institution about educational components that were studied and passed at other Danish or foreign higher educational institutions and to inform about occupations that can be assumed to earn the student transfer credit. The educational institution will grant transfer credit in each individual case based on completed/passed educational components and occupations that match course units, parts of the study programme or parts of the internship. The decision to award transfer credit is based on an assessment of discipline-specific elements. 27/48
11.1 Pre-approved credit transfer Students can apply for pre-approved credit transfer. In cases of pre-approved credit transfer of studies in Denmark or abroad, students are obliged to to document completion of the preapproved educational components, upon completion of the study-abroad period. When applying for pre-approval, students must consent to allow the educational institution to collect any required information upon the students completion of the study-abroad period. For the final approval of pre-approved credit transfer, the educational component is considered completed if it is passed in accordance with the regulations applying to the study programme. Credit transfer can be awarded in connection with admission to the AP Degree Programme in Design, Technology and Business at VIA Design, where the applicants, for whom credit transfer is relevant, will be informed about procedure and documentation requirements. In connection with admission, the AP Degree Programme in Design, Technology and Business at VIA Design can award credit transfer to students, who have completed educational components and/or occupation, which are equivalent to courses on the AP Degree Programme in Design, Technology and Business. The educational institution requires that the student is able to prove that he/she has another higher education from another Danish or foreign educational institution, where he/she has acquired qualifications within textile, clothing, furniture and design. These qualifications are to provide the student in question with qualifications to go through with and complete the Programme. The decision about credit transfer for educational components is made on an assessment of discipline-specific elements of the equivalence between the concerned educational components. That is, whether the completed studies match the learning objectives, level and extent in the educational components, for which the student applies credit transfer. Application about credit transfer must include the necessary documentation for passed courses and educational components, including syllabuses, material and literature, ECTS-credits and exam papers, if any available. In connection with assessment of an application for credit transfer, the applicant can be called in for an interview, where he/she must bring documents from previously acquired skills and eligibility for the area of the Programme. For persons applying for admission based on foreign educational qualifications, it can be necessary with an assessment made by the Danish Agency for Labour Market and Recruitment. Such an assessment is binding in relation to the decision about the admission but guiding in relation to the decision about award of credit transfer. The relevant Head of studies makes decisions about credit transfer, and the student will be informed before the start of the semester. Agreements about credit transfer appear in the existing Curriculum Agreements about credit transfer Pre-approved credit transfer for educational components completed abroad as an integrated part of the study is described in section 7 about exchange/ visits abroad. VIA Design has entered into agreements about credit transfer with other Danish and foreign educational institutions. Current overview can be found on the website of VIA Design. 28/48

Objectives The student can demonstrate independency and critical disciplinary assessment of the problem solving of the project The student can analyse, assess, plan and complete the project based on the selected problem or issue The student can apply and communicate basic key theories and methods within the speciality The student can communicate suggested solutions professionally Exam project The final exam project is based on a specific assignment within the area of the Programme, where the student must document an understanding of practice and centrally applied theory and methods in relation to a practice-related problem or issue. 41/48
The student must argue for the choice of problem or issue. The student, perhaps in co-operation with a private or public company, must formulate the problem, which must be central to the Programme and profession. The student is responsible for finding a company to co-operate with. Company contract/agreement must be handed in digitally to the Study Administration. The exam project is completed as an individual project with an oral examination. The exam project must result in a report perhaps including associated products. The extent of the exam project is maximum 80,000 characters including front page, abstract, table of contents, and appendices. (One normal page = 2,400 characters including spacing). The report must be written according to the VIA Design report formalities and include an abstract. The exam period equals 15 ECTS credits and has duration of 40 working days excluding oral examination. Examination The exam plan will be published on the VIA Study net approximately four weeks before the examination. 45 minutes for examination divided by: 20 minutes for the student s presentation 15 minutes for questions from external and internal examiner 10 minutes for assessment and marking The examination takes place at VIA Design with an internal examiner and an external examiner. The examination is public. Possible listeners cannot ask questions or observe the assessment. Assessment criteria The handed-in material weighs 70% of the total assessment and it is based on: Coherence between problem and the layout of the project Arguing for the selected solutions Relevance of applied theory and method in relation to the core areas of study The overall impression of the project Layout, communication and ability to communication The oral presentation weighs 30% of the total assessment and must be based on the problem statement of the project. The assessment is based on: Disposition and communication Clarification of the selected solutions Ability to answer questions and demonstrate knowledge within the disciplinary areas of study (New information is allowed to be presented, as long as it relates to the problem statement of the report): Exam assessment The project is assessed according to the 7-point grading scale and is passed with the minimum mark 02. Guidance The student is assigned a guidance teacher and is offered maximum four hours of guidance during the exam period. This also includes guidance per and telephone. It is the student s own responsibility to make appointments for guidance. The last possibility for guidance is the last day of the exam period. The guidance teacher must approve the problem scenario and statement. 42/48
The student must hand in the following: Digital hand-in in Wiseflow: Written material and photos of products, if any Patterns Pattern Design Hand-in at VIA Design: Products such as clothing, furniture, mock-up, boards, process folders, catalogues, portfolio, etc. Products, which are possible to scan, can be handed in digitally with the written material. This could be boards, process folders, catalogues, and portfolio. The external examiner receives digitally handed-in material. The guidance teacher receives digitally handed-in material and products. Published on the VIA Study net Time plan, rules and regulations for the exam period. Right to complain and return of report The time limit for the student s right to complain is 14 days. During this period the assignment must be kept at VIA Design. Any products in connection with the assignment can be collected 14 days after the exam. Products, which are not collected 3 months after the exam at the latest, will be destroyed Illness and re-examination In case of illness in connection with examination, the student must contact the Study Administration. In case of illness occurred right before an examination, the student must hand in medical documentation with reason for absence to the Study Administration one week after the examination at the latest. If a student becomes ill during a written examination, the following applies: In case the student chooses to hand in his/her assignment/project, the assignment is assessed on equal terms with the rest of the student assignments In case the student fails to hand in his/her assignment/project, the student must hand in medical documentation to the Study Administration one week after the examination at the latest. If illness is not documented according to the above regulations, the student has used one examination attempt. The student must pay for all expenses in connection with obtaining medical documentation. Make-up examination/re-examination Students are automatically signed up for the forthcoming make-up examination/re-examination, if the student: Was prevented from completing the examination due to documented illness (and has not used one examination attempt) Has not obtained the minimum mark 02 or the assessment passed in connection with a completed examination (has used one examination attempt) Has handed in a written product incorrectly, insufficient or not in time (has used one examination attempt) Has arrived too late for a written or oral examination without reasonable argument (has used one examination attempt) Has been expelled from an examination due to plagiarism, cheating or interfering behaviour (has used one examination attempt) 43/48
The Study Administration informs the student about date, time of day and place of make-up examination/re-examination. As a rule, there is no guidance given in connection with make-up examination/re-examination, unless the Study Administration informs otherwise concerning the individual make-up examination/re-examination. Students, who do not complete the elective courses If the student has completed the examination without passing it, the regular rules for reexamination are followed In case of illness, a doctor s note must be handed in In case the student is enrolled for the elective course and he/she fails to participate in the examination, the student has used one examination attempt Examination attempt For each examination in the Programme, the student has three examination attempts and, therefore, has the right to two re-examinations. On the AP Degree Programme in Design, Technology and Business at VIA Design, the students can be allowed to take three reexaminations in case of well-argued, unusual circumstances. Lacking academic ability is not seen as unusual circumstance. Argued application about getting a 4th examination attempt must be handed in to the Study Administration 14 days at the latest, after the assessment of the third examination attempt has been notified. The Head of Studies makes the decision about a 4th examination attempt Qualification requirement for participating in examinations There is compulsory participation in common core projects. In case of absence, the student will not be able to pass a project and can, this way, not be recommended for examination. Possibility for exemption in case of illness is assessed by documentation of a medical statement to the Head of Studies. Furthermore, five statements of the active participation in studies are carried out; see section 12 and 13 about active participation in studies. Register for examination The student is automatically registered for the test/examination, as long as the student fulfils the requirements of VIA Design for passing projects. See requirements for active participation in studies, section 12 and 13. The student receives a written letter in case he/she does not fulfil the qualification requirements for participating in a test/exam. If the student is legally absent from the examination, this must be cleared in writing to VIA Design one week before the test/examination period at the latest. This can only be done with documentation of illness or maternity leave. If the application for absence is handed in too late, the examination in question is part of the number of examination attempts. However, this is not the case with documented illness (doctor s note) Examination forms Reference is made to description of examination forms and courses in the examination regulations on the VIA Study net. 44/48
17.10 Report formalities On the VIA Study net under Study Material, information about VIA Design s report formalities for written assignments and examinations are to be found including a guide to be used in connection with written assignments, tests, and exams, cf. section Educational aid In general, all educational aid is allowed during examinations, unless other appears in the examination regulation for the specific examination, cf. section In case you have a physical or psychological condition, which causes a disability that means you need special support to complete a programme at VIA University College, you can apply for special educational assistance (in Danish SPS). You can read more about it on the VIA Stud net or contact the Student Counselling at VIA Design. An application for prolonged time for the examination must be send to the Study Administration one month before the examination at the latest. The application must be well argued in writing with enclosed documentation Cheating and plagiarism at examinations Cheating Cheating is defined in the Examination Regulations as wrongful aid. In practice, wrongful aid will usually be anything that will make the solving of the assignment easier for the student and simultaneously not be allowed, e.g. use of non-permitted educational aid, helping fellow students or receiving help from fellow students etc. Plagiarism The Examination Regulations operate with the following definition: [to publish] another person s work as your own or [using] your own previously assessed work without referral. In the educational area, the expression to publish must be understood as submitting for assessment. This way, there might be cases of plagiarism in written assignments, synopsis and other written work, which are subject for examination and for assignments given during teaching (weekly assignments). Plagiarism is a circumstance where a student, in a written assignment, tries to give the impression that the student in question is the author of idea, text, and layout or similar, even though the author is someone else. To be exact, plagiarism is when a written assignment totally or partly appears as produced by one or more students in question, when in fact the assignment: 1. Comprises identical or almost identical reproduction of other persons formulations or work, without the reproduced being marked by quotation marks, italics, indention or other clear marking referring to the source, including page numbers or similar (copy). 2. Comprises larger sections with a choice of words so close to other work or formulations etc. that by comparing the text, you can clearly see that it could not have been written without using the other work (paraphrasing etc.), or 3. Comprises the use of words or ideas of others without crediting these appropriately (other plagiarism) 4. Reuse text and/or central ideas from own previously assessed or published work without observance of the above regulations in no. 1 and 3. 45/48
Source reference A reference or more precisely source reference is a specification of the author of a text etc. and the origination of the precise text. The AP Degree Programme in Design, Technology and Business at VIA Design uses the Harvard Reference System as standard for source references. The guidelines are to be found on the VIA Study net under Study Material in the document Report formalities Spelling and formulation abilities In the assessment of the student s performance in connection with written exams and oral exams with a written exam basis worked out by the student, the student s spelling and formulation abilities comprise an important part. At the assessment of all written examinations, regardless what language the examination is on, the student is assessed on the basis of: Spelling and formulation abilities. Spelling and formulation abilities form part of a modifying assessment of the total fulfilment of objectives The ability to communicate an disciplinary problem The ability to dispose of an academic assignment and fulfil the formal academic requirements At the assessment of all oral examinations, regardless what language the examination is on, the student s ability is assessed on the basis of: Presenting a disciplinary material and structuring an oral presentation. The oral presentation ability form part of a modifying assessment of the total fulfilment of objectives Taking part in a qualified, disciplinary dialogue All examinations are in English Diploma A Diploma is issued, when the student has completed the AP Degree Programme in Design, Technology and Business, cf. the Ministerial Order on examination no of 16/12/13 about tests and examinations in academy profession degree Programmes Complaints about assessment, examination process or the examination basis The regulations governing complaints procedures about assessments, the examination process or an examination basis such as questions, assignments etc., are described below. The student must submit a complaint in writing and stating the reasons for the complaint not later than two weeks after the examination was held. The complaint should be submitted to the educational institution. The contents of the complaint will be shown to the examiner and the external examiner, who were associated with the given exam, and they will be asked to each make a statement. The deadline for such statements is usually two weeks. Next, the student (the complainant) will be given the chance to comment on the statements within a deadline of one week. 46/48
Based on the contents of the complaint, the statement and any comments by the student, the educational institution will make a decision in writing. The result of the procedure may be that the student will be offered a new examination, a new assessment (for written exams) or that the complaint is dismissed. The student will have two weeks to accept a new examination or assessment or to appeal the decision if the complaint was dismissed. The student can complain about internal and external examinations, when the complaint concerns: Examination basis (exam questions, the assignment or similar) Examination process Assessment It is recommended that the student, before a possible complaint, contact a student counsellor/study coordinator in order to clarify any misunderstandings and to receive guidance on complaining. Complaints, if any, are submitted to the Study Administration no later than 14 days after the assessment has been given. The complaint must be in writing and well argued. The Head of Studies makes decisions in cases of complaints. The decision is in writing, well argued, and may comprise: 1) Offer about a new assessment (re-assessment), however not in connection with oral examinations 2) Offer about a new examination (re-examination) or 3) That the educational institution does not find in favour of the student s complaint In case the decision is about offering re-assessment or re-examination, it may result in a poorer mark. Acceptance of an offer about re-assessment or re-examination must be done two weeks at the latest, after the decision has been given. This must be done in writing to the Study Administration. The student can appeal the decision of the educational institution concerning disciplinary questions. The student submits the appeal to the institution. The appeal must be in writing and well argued. The appeal must be submitted two weeks at the latest, after the student has been notified about the decision of the institution. The institution may grant an exemption from the deadline in case of well-argued, unusual circumstances. This must be done in writing to the Study Administration. 18 Exemption The educational institution may grant exemption from the rules in this national section of the Curriculum that was laid down solely by the educational institutions, when such exemption is substantiated by exceptional circumstances. VIA Design may grant exemption from the rules made by VIA Design alone, when such exemption is substantiated by exceptional circumstances. 19 Administrative law The Programme is subject to the regulations and principles of the Administrative law. 47/48
