4 Auto Club Programs and Resources Teen Driver Safety Auto Club Driving School Our instructors use AAA s research-based Licensed to Learn curriculum and offer complete package programs that meet the Graduated Driver License requirements. Programs include 30 classroom hours and options for 6-hour or 10-hour in-car driver training. For course pricing and information, call (866) Auto Club Driving School license #E3839. Dare to Prepare The Auto Club helps prepare both parents and teens for this exciting yet risky time as teens begin to drive. Dare to Prepare is a free, interactive program targeting teens years old. The workshop walks attendees through state Graduated Driver Licensing components, state requirements for obtaining an instructional permit and driver license, parent and teen roles and responsibilities, and what to look for in a driving school. Teen Driving Fairs feature community resources, interactive activities and demonstrations, Under the Hood workshops, Teen CarFit program, food, music and fun. The website includes interactive activities for teens, information on the state Graduated Driver License Law, and outlines both parents and teens roles and responsibilities during the learning to drive process. AAA OnBoard AAA OnBoard provides parents with a tool to help coach their teens to practice responsible driving habits. AAA OnBoard features an easy to use plug in device for your car that can help you and your teen determine responsbile driving habits. To obtain more information call (877) Driver-ZED Driver-ZED ( Zero Errors Driving ) is an interactive DVD that puts teens in the virtual driver s seat. Developed by the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, the program enables users to navigate more than 80 live-action scenarios and learn to identify, assess and react to a wide range of potential risks when driving. 5 Auto Club Programs and Resources Child Passenger Safety and Pedestrian Safety Child Passenger Safety Physician Tool Kits The AAA Physician Tool Kit is for use by physicians, hospitals, heath care facilities and other health care agencies to provide interactive tools when discussing child passenger safety with patients and caregivers. The kit is available in English and Spanish and includes posters, brochures, pocket guides, prescription pads, stickers and a waiting room DVD. For more information or to obtain a sample, call (714) Child Passenger Safety Education Classes This 90-minute workshop targets parents and caregivers of children up to 8 years of age. The workshop focuses on California s occupant protection laws, how to choose the proper car seat, car seat installation basics, and provides a list of local agencies that conduct car seat inspections. For a class schedule and more information, visit AAA.com/childsafety or call (714) School s Open-Drive Carefully Campaign The increased volume of pedestrian traffic during the school year is the driving force behind the School s Open-Drive Carefully campaign. Materials are designed to be distributed as schools come into session to remind parents, caregivers and students that school traffic will be increasing, so drivers and pedestrians need to increase awareness and be cautious in and around school zones. Campaign materials include posters, bumper stickers, Halloween bookmarks and related traffic safety educational materials in English and Spanish. Campaign materials are available from August through October. Brochure topics include a 5-step test on when to move your child from a booster seat into a seat belt, a comprehensive guide to car safety seats, an overview of pedestrian laws, a guide for safest routes to school, safe walking tips, and a teacher s guide to safest routes to school. 6 Auto Club Programs and Resources Senior Mobility and Wellness CarFit CarFit is an educational program that offers older drivers the opportunity to check how well their personal vehicles fit them. CarFit is based on a 12-point checklist and provides one-onone interaction with trained CarFit Technicians. The goal of the program is to help drivers improve safety and comfort, provide information on community-specific resources, and increase their mobility in the community. To find a CarFit event near you, visit SENIORDRIVING.AAA.COM This website provides families of older drivers with valuable information and tools to help extend safe driving, and assist in difficult decisions about transitioning away from driving. Visitors will find tools and resources such as educational brochures, driver improvement courses and audits, tips on choosing a safe vehicle, skill assessment tools and information on community programs. AAA Online Mature Driver Improvement Course The mature driver course is an online DMV approved course. Drivers 55 and older who complete the online course receive a DMV certificate that can qualify them for an auto insurance discount. For more information, call (866) Mature Driver Skills Audit Mature Driver Skills Audit is a behind the wheel audit designed to help mature drivers identify changes in their driving skills and habits. The audit is a great way to help someone who may need to resume driving or to take a DMV road test for the first time in many years. Participants train with interactive and challenging computer based exercises that work together to change the brain s ability to quickly process what participants see. Roadwise Review Roadwise Review is a free easy-to-use interactive CD-ROM program that shows seniors how their changing visual, cognitive and physical conditions affect driving. The program allows users in the privacy of their own home to identify health and fitness issues that affect their driving. Some areas assessed in the program are leg strength, head/ neck flexibility, working memory, and visual search ability.
