1 STRAUS INSTITUTE FOR DISPUTE RESOLUTION 2016 SPRING COURSE SCHEDULE NOTICES ADVANCE ASSIGNMENTS FOR INTENSIVE COURSES A class syllabus including any advance reading and/or writing assignments for intensive classes will be ed to students 3-4 weeks prior to the start of class. Please note that it is each student s responsibility to review the syllabus well before the class begins and complete any advance assignments. Students who show up the first day unprepared risk being dropped from the class. RESCHEDULING EXAMS While most Straus classes will require a final paper instead of a final exam, it is important for everyone to be aware of the exam rescheduling policy in the event you enroll in one or more classes with a final exam. Students may not petition to reschedule a final exam unless two final exams are to be taken on the same day. Therefore, it is important for you to pay attention to the final exam schedule when you are selecting your courses. Petitions to change one of two exams scheduled for the same day must be filed by the seventh week of classes. For additional details concerning the law school final exam policies go to EXTERNSHIP ENROLLMENT Students cannot register for externships through WaveNet. All students are required to have their externship placement confirmed before they can register. Independent Study Project need to speak with Professor Stephanie Bell prior to enrolling. NEW ADJUNCT FACULTY MEMBERS Matthew R. Bogosian is Certified as a Family Law Specialist by the State Bar of California, Board of Legal Specialization and has over 20 years of experience in family law litigation and mediation. Mr. Bogosian received his Bachelor of Arts in Linguistics from the University of California at Los Angeles, graduating Magna Cum Laude and earning Departmental Honors in Linguistics. He earned a Juris Doctor and Certificate in Dispute Resolution from Pepperdine University School of Law in Malibu, California, where he received the American Jurisprudence Award in Negotiation and Settlement Advocacy and completed elective courses in Family Law, Advanced Family Law, Community Property, and Divorce Mediation. Mr. Bogosian served as a Judicial Assistant to Family Law Commissioner Bobbi Tillmon of the Los Angeles Superior Court in Santa Monica, California and as a research assistant to celebrity divorce attorney Robert S. Kaufman before joining the Los Angeles office of Morrison & Foerster, LLP where he handled family law matters under the supervision of Certified Family Law Specialist Patricia Phillips. Following his tenure at MoFo, Mr. Bogosian practiced family law at Nordman, Cormany, Hair & Compton in Ventura County. Since 2005, Mr. Bogosian has served as a family law mediator, consultant, expert witness, lecturer and litigator with offices in Calabasas and Beverly Hills, California.

2 Barbara Reeves is an arbitrator, mediator and special master with JAMS, based in Los Angeles, California. Since becoming a full-time neutral in 2006, she has handled hundreds of cases, with expertise in insurance coverage, healthcare law, employment and commercial disputes, both domestic and international. After clerking for the Ninth Circuit, joined the United States Department of Justice, Antitrust Division in Washington, D.C. and later served as Chief of the Los Angeles Field office. She was a partner at national law firms and then became Associate General Counsel and Vice President for Southern California Edison and Edison International for seven years, which term included the California energy crisis. She is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and the College of Commercial Arbitrators. She received her J.D. cum laude from Harvard Law School. Jan Frankel Schau is a practicing neutral with ADR Services, Inc. Ms. Schau had over twenty years of experience as a litigator before transitioning into ADR. Since 2003, Jan has successfully mediated over 1,000 litigated cases. She is widely considered one of L.A. s preeminent mediators. A former President of the Southern California Mediation Association, Jan is also a Distinguished Fellow of the International Academy of Mediators and an appointed member of the United States District Court s Attorney Settlement Officer panel. Jan is the author of numerous scholarly articles and the book, View from the Middle of the Road: A Mediator s Perspective to Life, Conflict and Human Interaction. She served as adjunct faculty for the Tseng College of Extended Learning, Conflict Resolution Practicum and Training and has been a frequent and popular guest lecturer at Straus Institute. Ms. Schau holds an undergraduate degree in International Relations from Pomona College in Claremont, Ca. and a J.D. from Loyola Law School of Los Angeles. She brings over a decade of practical experience and wisdom from the real world of civil mediation and ADR, recounted in a weekly blog and is a well respected thought leader on topics arising within the profession. Michael C. Siboni, has been a trial lawyer since He is a founding Member of Siboni & Buchanan, PLLC, a litigation firm located in Ocala, Florida. He has focused his practice on complex litigation in the areas of aviation, product liability, personal injury, wrongful death, commercial transactions, insurance and equine law, in both State and Federal Courts. He has lectured and authored materials in the areas of product liability, litigation and equine law. Mr. Siboni is a member of the Florida Bar and is Board Certified in Aviation Law by the Florida Bar Board of Legal Specialization and Education. He is licensed to practice before the United States Supreme Court, United States Court of Appeals, Fifth and Eleventh Circuits, and the United States District Court Southern, Middle and Northern Districts of Florida. In the field of Alternative Dispute Resolution, Mr. Siboni is certified by the Florida Supreme Court as a Circuit Civil and Appellate Mediator. Additionally, he is a Federal Court Mediator and Florida Supreme Court qualified as an Arbitrator. His significant experience litigating complex civil matters has instilled confidence in his mediation clients, and as such, he maintains an active Mediation practice in the following areas: Product Liability, Personal Injury, Wrongful Death, Medical Malpractice, Professional Malpractice, Business Torts, Aviation, Subrogation, Property Damage, Employment, Admiralty, Commercial Disputes, Healthcare Litigation, Federal Tort Claims, Contract Disputes, Insurance, Premises Liability, Environmental and Equine.
