3 Introduction This Module Information Booklet is designed to help you understand the structure and modules which make up the award you have chosen to study and to register them on the on-line system. Some modules in the award are core and have to be taken. These cannot be compensated if failed. Some modules are specified ; this also means you have to take the modules, but for most awards they can be compensated. Information can be found on the university web pages Some modules are optional which means you can (subject to timetabling) either choose from the list shown, or from a different subject area. Please note that when we say a module is optional this means that there is an element of choice in which module you may take this and does not automatically mean that you can take any module, you will need to check the course structure. Please follow the guidance that follows for your award and make sure that you have the requisite number of credits for the year. You must ensure you have taken the co and pre-requisite modules before selecting your modules. It is essential that you check in either the module booklet, the module information event or the ICIS (Integrated Curriculum Information System) database: Further instructions regarding accessing the ICIS database can be found on page 7. You are reminded to make a record of your choices as you will need to register them when you enroll for the next academic year. If you are a full time student you should be taking a total of 120 credits, in some cases this is made up from six 20 credit modules. In some courses 40 and 10 credits modules are available, however this can vary from award to award. You should make sure your module choices fit with the award structure and add up to the full 120 credits. If you are a part time student you can normally take between 20 and 80 credits. The combination will be discussed with your award tutor. 1
