Julia Townshend Acting Head of School and Principal Lecturer School of Psychology, Social Work and Human Sciences JULIA Townshend: Julia Townshend has been at the University of West London for ten years and is Acting Head of School for Psychology, Social Work and Human Sciences. She is a Chartered Psychologist and member of the British Psychological Society. Julia is also a Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and applies her research in memory and alcohol use in her teaching across the undergraduate and postgraduate Psychology courses. 178

3 Meet: Pauline Fox Associate Professor School of Psychology, Social Work and Human Sciences Pauline Fox was awarded a PhD for her research into student well-being in education settings. In addition, she has expertise in health psychology, employability and experiential learning. She is a Chartered Psychologist, a Health Psychologist registered with the UK Health and Care Professions Council, and a University Teaching Fellow. She is a member of the British Psychological Society s Division of Health Psychology (DHP) where she has been a member of the DHP s Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Committee, a CPD Assessor, a co-editor of Health Psychology Update, and a member of the DHP Training Committee. 180
4 Forensic Science Technological advances in crime detection require the creation of highly trained forensic scientists and this course has been designed to meet this need. F410 Three years overview This course provides a thorough grounding in forensic science, incorporating biological sciences, chemical sciences, the process of criminal investigation, as well as a consideration of the judicial system within the UK. A notable feature of this course is the large amount of laboratory practical work associated with all of the scientific modules. Visits to external agencies, including forensic laboratories and courts of law, are incorporated, giving you the opportunity to put your learning into a practical context. The final year of the course includes an experiential learning element, which will allow you to spend a period of time in employment within an external organisation, so you can gain valuable work experience. It may be possible for you to spend a period of time within an approved institution outside of the UK. 6 Nutritional Therapy The course of study consists of supported distance learning study modules, which comprise 120 credits at each level. C8L3 Five to six years Distant learning also available overview This course is designed to meet the particular needs of persons studying for a professional qualification in Nutritional Therapy and is attractive to both complete newcomers to healthcare and to individuals who have already trained in other healthcare areas. The course is supported through the University of West London s Virtual Learning Environment (Blackboard and PebblePad.) which is available via the University s website, 24 hours a day from anywhere that has internet access. Much of the course can therefore be studied at a distance, with the exception of the compulsory clinical sessions (BSc) and classroom sessions (). The course builds a sound knowledge base in the theory and practice of nutritional therapy, underpinned by the concomitant development of basic medical sciences. The student engages in formative learning in anatomy and physiology and basic biochemistry, as well as the study of named diseases (pathology), as it relates to the field of practice. Students develop their practitioner skills through clinical practice, monitored and supervised by experienced qualified and registered nutritional practitioners. A notable feature of the course includes an experiential learning element, which will allow you to spend a period of time in placement within an external organisation so you can gain valuable work experience.
