Head Elements Space down add a < br > line break code into the HEAD section in WE, this will make the main page area space down one line, or two if you add two line breaks, that will make the black page background be seen above the page, I like that effect, I've never liked a page to be all the way to the top of the page, I like a border effect that the line break gives you. How do I insert an SWF Flash file into my site? answer Go to Insert > Object > Objects > Flash Press ok Click to locate the SWF video file on your site Right click the player and select 'Link' In the Embedded Link field, edit this to point to your own.swf file To adjust size: Right click the player Choose link Select 'Player Properties' From here you can adjust size, loop, play automatically, as well as other setting. How can I improve my success with Search Engines? General practices to follow are: Write good, quality text on your web pages about the topics and keywords that you are trying to attract in visitors and search engines. Generally, the more text content the better - but remember not to overdo this too much as you may distract visitors from your web site. Use relevant keywords regularly in your text content so that the keyword density on a page is high. Do not overdo this. Use relevant keywords in your headings. Do not overdo this. Use relevant keywords in bold or italic text. Do not overdo this. Fill in the title, author, description and keywords for each page in your web site. See Advanced building options for CSS Sites in WebEasy help. Fill in the Html Title and Alternative Text (ALT) to all images and form fields items on all web pages to have a text representation of the visual content. Fill in the Custom Tag to the text items that may reflect better meaning of the text, for example headings (1..6), Code or Address. Create a sitemap for your web site so that all pages are linked and can be found by search engines. Add a link to the sitemap on your web site's homepage to ensure that search engines find all your pages. Make sure the text items are not overlapped by other items on the page. When building with Simple HTML, text items can be transformed into images if they overlap with other items. Request/exchange links from other web sites on the internet to your web site so that your site becomes more popular and better known. Submit your web site to as many search engines and directories as you can. for example, submit your site to This is a human-edited directory, and is used by search engines. With any of the above options, it can take weeks or months before your web site is listed in search engines or starts to get good results in search engine queries. You may find it useful to check out for more information about popular search engines.. How can I add an FLV flash video into my site? You can add a flash player to your site then link your own files to the player Go to Insert > Object > Objects > Flash Video Press ok Click to locate the video on your site Right click the player and select 'Link' In the Embedded Link field, edit this to point to your own.flv file To adjust size: Right click the player Choose link Select 'Player Properties' From here you can adjust size, loop, play automatically, as well as other setting.

When people come to my website I want the site to automatically adjust to the size of the browser window. Is there any way to do this in WebEasy? **You can set your website font sizes to change dynamically along with changes in the browser window width. This does not effect all elements in the site so it is best to test this locally to guarantee a satisfactory results prior to proceeding.** Try the following: 1) Go to view > inspector 2) Choose 'document' from the drop-down in the upper-right corner. 3) Navigate to Properties > Page Settings > Measurement 4) Double-click the box and choose 'percentage of page width' 5) Build and preview the site to view the results Here is some additional information on sizing of fonts. You can change the units that your document uses for all the measurement values when your site is built. It is important to note that changing the value for the measurement units will not effect how your site looks within web easy. You will notice the difference when you build or preview your site in a web browser. Style Description Relative to Font Size. This option sizes everything on your page relative to the font size the user has selected for their web browser. Absolute Pixels Size The page by pixels, page is sized relative to the viewing device. Absolute Points Size. The page by points used by CSS 2.1 are equal to 1/72th of an inch. Percentage of Page Width. Items on the page are resized and moved relative to the page size. They will only be resized or moved when the horizontal width of the browser window changes. Another way to stop the resizing in internet explorer is to specify the font size units in pixels. You can not do this through web easy so it would be a matter of changing the code manually before uploading. To do this replace the font tags such as with an explicit pixel size as follows (uses a CSS font-size style), Firefox will still resize this text, but IE will always display it at 13px Bookmarks To put an "Add to bookmark" in web easy 7 : first put this in the "Head Elements" of the page (inspector properties)

Iframes <!-- Begin IFRAME Code --> <iframe src="put-the-url-of-what-you-want-to-frame-here" style="border:1px solid;" name="frame1" scrolling="auto" frameborder="yes" align="center" height = "900px" width = "800px"> </iframe> <!-- End IFRAME Code --> Can I make the same piece of background audio play throughout my site, regardless of which page is being viewed? There is a trick in Web Easy Professional that will allow you to do this. Solution 1) Add a new page at the end of your site. 2) Set the background audio on this page. 3) Go to the "Build" menu and select "Preview". 4) Click the "Options" button. 5) Check the "Dynamic HTML" box. 6) Click the "Advanced" button. 7) In the "Web Site Style" box select "Split with last page as frame". 8) Click OK. 9) Click OK again. 10) Click OK to preview your site. The last page of your site will become a frame along one side of the screen. This frame will never change, so the audio will play continually. You can put links on this page to your other pages to create a "navigation bar" that will be always available regardless of which page of your site is being viewed. When I add new links to my site they open in a new window. Why is this occurring? Web Easy 5 has a feature whereby links can be opened in a new window or in the same window without having to do scripting manually. When you create or edit a link, look in the top right hand corner of the Link dialog - you'll see a little icon of a page, with either an orange/yellow star or a green curved arrow. When it is showing the little star, it means the link will open in a new window. If you click this icon, it will change to having the green curved arrow, which indicates that the link will open in the current window. How do I make a link that opens a new browser window of a particular size, without toolbars or menus? This can be done using the Link to Script option in Web Easy Professional. Solution 1) Add some text or an image to your page - this will become the link 2) Select the item on your page and click the "Links" button in the top toolbar 3) Select the "Internet" tab 4) Select the "Script" button 5) In the "Script" box, enter the following code: href="javascript:void(window.open(' '', 'resizable=yes, scrollbars=yes, status=yes, width=620,height=420'))" This will create a link to that opens in a new window. The window will be resizable, have

scrollbars and a status bar, and its dimensions will be 620 x 420 pixels. It will not have any toolbars or menus. You can replace the part with the URL of the page you want to open. If you want to open a page of your own site, you would enter something similar to 'mysite_003.htm', depending on which page you want to link to, and the package name of your site. Note that this sort of link to a page in your site won't work in preview mode - it will only work once your site has been published, or if you view it by Building it to HTML, then opening it in your browser. This technique uses JavaScript to open the new window. There are some good JavaScript tutorials available at if you would like to learn more about this language. can I make a link to a page of my own site open in new window? Use the Link to Script option. This is a powerful tool with many uses, of which this is an example. 1. Right click on the object from which you wish to link. 2. Select the Internet Tab 3. Select the SCRIPT option Use "Link to Script", then put this text: href="album2_002.htm" target="_blank" in the Script box. The page name "album2_002.htm" shown above is only an example. To determine what name you should use, Build your page to a web site first. This will generate the html files. Check in the HTML files folder to see what file name is actually ascribed to the page you wish to link to. Then use this name in your script, and build your site again. Note that you cannot do this using Preview mode as the HTML files generated in this mode have temporary names assigned. I want to add a drop down box with sub fields to click on to send visitors to a specific page. How can I do this in WebEasy? This exact functionality is not provided by Web Easy. Such menus can be created using JavaScript and added to Web Easy sites using the Custom Script Assistant. One place to look for scripts would be com Alternately, there's a Menu object in the "Objects\Objects - Advanced" folder which is similar but you have to click on it to make the menu appear, rather than just roll over it. When you add this object to the page a dialog should appear where you can specify what menu items to show. How do I add a video to my website? You can insert a movie or other multimedia file into your document using the Insert Photo dialog. To insert a movie: 1) Click to display the Edit taskbar. 2) Click Image to display the Edit Image toolbar. 3) Click Insert, and select Photo as if to insert a new photo. 4) The Choose Image dialog opens. 5) Type *.* in the file open box, press enter. 6) Browse to find the movie that you want to insert. 7) Click OK. 8) Click on the page where you want to

display the movie. Notes: The movie will not run in the document until it has been built. To view a quick display of the Web page with the movie, preview the Web site by clicking the Preview button in the Build toolbar. Tip: This feature is not supported by Netscape. If you want viewers using Netscape to see the movie, you can embed it as an embedded object using the Link dialog. have a script I need to put between the <head> and </head>. How can I do this? If it is a requirement that the HTML code go between the <HEAD> and </HEAD> tags, you can add it to the site as follows: 1) Go to the "Build" menu and select "Preview". 2) Click the "Options" button. 3) Click the "Advanced" button. 4) Enter the HTML code you want in the "Internet search engine description" box. 5) Click OK. 6) Click OK again. 7) Click OK to preview the site. The trick is that if you just enter text in the description box (as usual), Web Easy will automatically generate the following HTML code, between <HEAD> and </HEAD>: <META NAME="Description" CONTENT="whatever you entered">...however, if you enter actual HTML code in the description field, it will replace that meta tag entirely. If you still want to provide a meta description in addition to the custom code, you will have to manually type in a meta tag as shown above. have created a website and inside the frame menu are drop down boxes that link to other pages in the document. The drop down selections open within the frame in place of the menu. How can I direct my drop down selections to open another page and retain the menu frame? Try the following: - Select one of the drop-down boxes, and go to the Tools menu and select Custom Script Assistant. - Select the "Object Events" button. - You should see the following code: onchange="window.document.location.href=this.options[this.selectedindex].value"...change it to this: onchange="parent.myfrm.location.href=this.options[this.selectedindex].va lue"

- Now preview the site - the drop down box that had this change made should work as desired. You'll have to make this change to all the drop down boxes. Can I use a drop-down box to link to other web sites? This can be done using the Custom Script Assistant in Web Easy Professional. Solution 1) Use the photo browser to go to the "Objects\Objects - Advanced\Fields" folder. 2) Drag the "combo box" object (drop-down box) onto your page. 3) Select the drop-down box. 4) Go to the "Tools" menu and select "Custom Script Assistant". 5) Select the "Object Events" button. 6) Delete the script in the "contents" box and enter the following code in its place (make sure this code is all on one line, with no spaces): [code]onchange="window.document.location.href=this.options[this.selectedindex].value"[code] 7) Select the "Text to Display" button. 8) Delete the script in the "contents" box and enter the following code in its place: [code]<option value=' One <option value=' Two <option value=' Three <option value=' Four[code] Replace the site URLs and names in the above with the appropriate details for the sites you want to link to. Can I use Java applets in my site? : Java applets can be integrated using the Custom Script Assistant in Web Easy Professional. Solution: 1) Insert an image into your page in the position where you want the applet to be. 2) Select the image. 3) Click the "Link" button in the top toolbar. 4) Select the "Internet" tab. 5) Select the "File" button. 6) Use the little browse button next to the "File Name" box to locate the Java CLASS, ZIP or JAR file. 7) Click OK. 8) Make sure the image is still selected. 9) From the "Tools" menu select "Custom Script Assistant" 10) In the window that appears, make sure the "Object Events" button is selected. 11) The Java applet will require some HTML code in order to function. Type your HTML code in the text box labelled "Contents", or paste it in by pressing CTRL-V. 12) At the very start of your code, enter <DIV>. At the very end of your code, enter </DIV>. You should end up with code that looks something like this:

<DIV><APPLET CODE </APPLET></DIV> 13) Click "OK". One problem you may have using Java applets is that if they display images (or other files) you will need to manually upload the images they use. You can do this using FTP Max (which is available by selecting "Transfer Files" from the Tools menu) or using another FTP program. : Custom HTML and JavaScript code can be added to your pages using the Custom Script Assistant in Web Easy Professional. This functionality is not available in Web Easy. Solution: The Custom Script Assistant can be opened by selecting "Custom Script Assistant" from the "Tools" menu. It allows HTML and JavaScript code to be added in four different ways: 1) Attached to an item (image or text) at a specific loction within your page. 2) Directly after the <BODY> tag, but before any other items on your page. 3) As attributes of the <BODY> tag itself. 4) Between the <HEAD> and <BODY> tags, as JavaScript code. To add custom HTML code at a specific location within your page: 1) Insert an image into your page in the position where you want the custom code to be. 2) Select the image. 3) From the "Tools" menu select "Custom Script Assistant" 4) In the window that appears, make sure the "Object Events" button is selected. 5) Type your custom HTML code in the text box labelled "Contents", or press CTRL-V to paste it. 6) Click "OK". After doing this the image acts as a placeholder for your custom HTML code. When you preview the site, the image will be replaced by your code. You may need to resize the image, depending on the code you have entered. Note that if you use copy-and-paste to duplicate the placeholder, you will need to manually add the script to the new placeholder image - it will not be copied automatically. This technique can also be used to add attributes to HTML tags, for example if you added the code BORDER=2 to an image, when you preview your site the image will have a 2-pixel wide border. To add custom HTML code directly after the <BODY> tag, but before any other items on your page: 1) Make sure there are no items selected on your page. 2) From the "Tools" menu select "Custom Script Assistant" 3) In the window that appears, make sure the "Body Elements" button is selected. 4) Type your custom HTML code in the text box labelled "Contents", or press CTRL-V to paste it. 5) Click "OK". To add custom attributes to the <BODY> tag itself:

1) Make sure there are no items selected on your page. 2) From the "Tools" menu select "Custom Script Assistant" 3) In the window that appears, make sure the "Body Events" button is selected. 4) Type your custom attributes in the text box labelled "Contents", or press CTRL-V to paste it. 5) Click "OK". To add JavaScript code Between the <HEAD> and <BODY> tags: 1) Make sure there are no items selected on your page. 2) From the "Tools" menu select "Custom Script Assistant" 3) In the window that appears, make sure the "Source Code" button is selected. 4) Type your custom attributes in the text box labelled "Contents", or press CTRL-V to paste it. 5) Click "OK". In this case, only pure JavaScript code can be entered, as Web Easy will automatically generate <SCRIPT> tags for you. The Keywords List The Keywords are a list of commonly used HTML and JavaScript keywords. If you select one, it will be added to your script in the Contents box. This list serves no other purpose - it does not matter what is currently selected in the list when you are using the Custom Script Assistant. How do I make my own re-usable objects that I can include in my web sites? Objects consist of two files - a Web Easy Template (.TPL) file and a GIF or JPG image with the same name as the template. The template file contains the definition of the object, and the image is what will appear in the photo browser. For a specific example, instructions are provided on how to create an object that is a company logo that links to the company web site: 1) Go to the "File" menu and select "New -> Blank Document". Click "OK" on the screen that appears. 2) Insert the company logo onto the page. 3) Move the image so it is in the top left hand corner of the page. Leave a little space between the image and the edges of the page. 4) Right-click on the image and select "Link" from the menu that appears. 5) Select the "Internet" tab 6) Select the "World Wide Web Site" button. 7) Enter the web site URL in the "Address" box, for example - be sure to include the part. 8) Click "OK". 9) Click on the page, somewhere other than where the image is. 10) Select "Size" from the toolbar at the top of the screen. 11) Enter a width and height a little bigger than the size of the logo. 12) Move the image so that it is centered on the page. 13) Go to the "Build" menu and select "Preview" to verify that your link works correctly. 14) Go to the "File" menu and select "Save As -> Template". Go to the "Web Easy\Objects Folder", and enter the name "Company Logo". Click "Save" to save the object. 15) Close the file. Congratulations! You just made a re-usable object. To test it, try the following:

1) Create a new web site. 2) Use the Photo Browser to go to the Objects folder. You should see your company logo object. 3) Drag the Company Logo object onto the page, then preview your site. Marque with text links <html> <head> <title>scrolling Marquee with text links</title> <script language="javascript"> <!-- Begin function writemarquee() { document.write("<marquee scrolldelay='250' scrollamount='20'>this ordinary marquee has <a href=' bravenet.com'>* * l i n k s * *</a> that you can click on. <a href=' get some free web tools!</a>. Use HTML formating: <b>bold</b>, <i>italic</i>, <u>etc.</u>. Speed and delay also adjustable.</ marquee>"); } // End --> </script> </head> <body> <div align="center"> <table width="30%"><tr><td> <script language="javascript"> <!-- Begin writemarquee() // End --> </script> </td></tr></table> </div> </body> </html> Objects What do the various Objects included with Web Easy do, and how can I use them? The Objects included with Web Easy are split into two broad groups - those that can just be dragged into your page and require no further work; and those that require some customization using the Custom Script Assistant. The latter are only available in Web Easy Professional. The Objects that require no further work can be found in the "Objects\Gadgets" folder. Note that you can still modify the behaviour of these objects using the Custom Script Assistant if you so desire. Following is a description of each: - Animated Digital The text "Digital Imaging" will appear on your page in a 72 point font. After two seconds, the text will begin to shrink until it has finally disappeared. - Animated Welcome Two seconds after your page has loaded, the text "Welcome!" will appear in very small letters then expand until it is about 72 points high. - Background Fade When your page loads, the background will fade to black, then back to the background color. This only works if

you have a solid background color. It will have no effect if you are using a texture or a gradient. - Calculator Provides a handy calculator that visitors to your web site can use for simple arithmetic. - Calendar Displays the current date in a calendar style. The month and year appear at the top, the number of the day appears in the middle and the name of the day appears at the bottom. - Display Date Displays the current date in a format similar to "25 May 2002". - Display Time Displays the current time in a format similar to "11:44:10". If you build your site as DHTML, the time will update automatically every second. - Personal Greeting The first time a new visitor comes to your site, they will be asked for their name. Each time they come to your site, they will see a message similar to "Good afternoon John. This is your 20th visit." The greeing changes depending on the time of day (good morning, good evening etc). The visitor's name and visit count are stored in a cookie, so visitors must have cookies enabled for this to work. - Select Web Site Displays a list of web sites. Clicking on a site name will link to that web site. The list has default values that can be changed using the Custom Script Assistant. - Status Bar Clock Displays the current time in the status bar at the bottom of the browser window. The display is updated every second. - Visitor's Counter Displays a visitor counter from fakecounter.com. The FAQ "How do I use a visitor counter on my Web Site in Web Easy?" provides details of how to insert a real visitor counter. - World Clock Displays the time at four locations around the world. The display is updated every second, and visitors can select different locations to view. The Objects that do require further work can be found in the "Objects\Objects - Advanced" folder. Generally you will require some familiarity with HTML and/or JavaScript to modify these. Following is a description of each: - Alert on Click Provies a small image that opens a message box when the user clicks it. One use of this is to provide brief online help text for form fields. The text displayed can be changed in the link dialog. - Alert on Load Page Displays a message box when the page loads. The text can be changed using the Custom Script Assistant. Change the word "Welcome!" to the text you wish to appear. - Confirm Load Page When the page loads, the visitor will be asked if they wish to continue. If they select "OK", the page will load. If they select "Cancel" they will be returned to the previous page, or to a URL of your choosing. In the Custom Script Assistant, change the text "Opening..." to the message you want to display, and change the text ' here/' to the URL you wish to redirect to.

- Credits Provides a scrolling display similar to the credits you see at the end of a movie. When you use the custom script assistant, a description of how to change the text is provided inside the script itself. - Load New Page Automatically redirect to another web site after a few seconds. By default, you will be redirected to after 5 seconds. A description of what to change is provided inside the script itself. - Menu Provides a drop-down menu from which a visitor can select another web site to go to. The menu item text and URLs can be changed at the top of the script. The menu title defaults to "{Menu}". This can be changed to something more appropriate for your site - it appears about half-way throught the script. - News Provides a vertically scrolling news ticker. The scrolling pauses for a few seconds when each new item comes into view. A description of what to change is provided inside the script itself. - Status Bar Message Provides a scrolling message in the status bar at the bottom of the browser window. A description of what to change is provided inside the script itself. - Table A standard HTML table with headings, rows and columns. The dimensions, color and content of the table can be changed by editing the HTML with the Custom Script Assistant. - Text Expanding Similar to "Animated Welcome" in "Objects\Gadgets". Change the text "Opening..." to the text you want to display. - Text Shrinking Similar to "Animated Digital" in "Objects\Gadgets". The text displayed consists of the word "Digital", a space and the word "Now!". Change these two words to the text you want to display. - View Image Allows you to include the thumbnail of an image on your page, then have the image display full-size in a new window when clicked. You cannot however use a template since they are fixed width and it will have to be built from scratch which is best anyway. Create a 1 page blank site and then set with width to any width you desire and then set the page height to say 3000 pixels. You can adjust the page height as needed later. Then go to view and select inspector and the inspector side bar will appear. Select the Style tab and look for Custom CSS and double click in the value field. A pop up window will appear. In the CSS Attributes Helper window scroll down until you find - height : 100

px 100% auto;height : auto; and select it. It will appear in the CSS in-line style code window. Now change the code to look like this height : auto; each page will have to have this code. This will set the page to end at whatever the last thing on you page is no matter what the height dimension is set to. You can then adjust the page height to what ever you like by moving the last thing on your page up or down depending on how much content you have on the page. If you ve already got your pages created, just go to inspector and add the above code. If you ve used a template this will not work and you ll have to either create individual pages in separate folders or get rid of the template and start over. Page Size CSS In order to build our site with CSS and still be able to change each page's size according to it's content... do this : Choose current page in the upper right icon in the inspector (ctrl+k) -> Style Tab -> open custom CSS field - choose : Code: height : 100 px \ 100% \ auto;and erase 2 of the three setting tag. If you want your page to fit only the content then erase : 100 px \ 100% so it will looks like : Code: height : auto;thats it! POP UP Window href="javascript:void(window.open(' '', 'resizable=yes, scrollbars=yes,status=yes,width=300,height=400'))" Changables yes to no for options and width, height to suit Design pop up page in WE with width and height of the window and upload to server Link to the pop up window with the Custom Script link CSA Object Events OnClick="window.open(' 'mynewwindow', 'resizable=yes, scrollbars=yes, status=yes, width=620,height=420').focus();" CSA oe OnClick="window.open('cabspecials.htm', 'mynewwindow', 'resizable=yes,scrollbars=yes,status=yes,width=620, height=420').focus();" Link internet Script href=" target="_blank" Link Inter Script href="javascript:void(window.close());" next>> CSA body events OnClick="window.open(' 'mynewwindow', 'resizable=yes, scrollbars=yes, status=yes, width=620,height=620').focus();"

Use the Link to Script option. This is a powerful tool with many uses, of which this is an example. 1. Right click on the object from which you wish to link. 2. Select the Internet Tab 3. Select the SCRIPT option Use "Link to Script", then put this text: href="album2_002.htm" target="_blank" onload="window.open(webcal.html','mynewwindow','resizable=yes,scrollbars=yes,status=yes,width=620, height=480').focus();" href=" target="_blank" Text Scroller <html> <head> <title>textbox Scroller</title> <script language="javascript"> <!-- Begin // THESE VARIABLES CAN BE CHANGED // var mymainmessage=" Try this out! If you want your page to fit only the content then erase : 100 px \ 100% so it will looks like : Code: height : auto;thats it! Do it for every page you need. Make you ponder why we need to find all these things ourself and not in an organized WE guide ha? You can look for other treasures in there. Okay, here is how you do it... you have to use a gradient background file, such as the one they used here called FOND.PNG, if you like the one they used here, simply download the file for yourself by right clicking on the page and selecting "Save background as". Once you have the background graphic, add a statement to each page of your document in the HEAD ELEMENTS section that says... body background="fond.png" obviously changing the filename and extension to whatever file you are using. You will have to manually upload the graphic file to your server, WE will not preview it or recognize it in the head element, but once you build and export it to HTML on your harddrive somewhere you can click on your index.html file and see the finished product before you upload it, making sure you have your graphic file in the same folder as where you just exported your html to. PS. The statement body background="fond.png" has to be put inside of < >, the forum kept crashing everytime I tried to post my reply with that statement inside the brackets. How do I add custom HTML or JavaScript code to my web page? Custom HTML and JavaScript code can be added to your pages using the Custom Script Assistant in Web Easy Professional. This functionality is not available in Web Easy. Solution The Custom Script Assistant can be opened by selecting "Custom Script Assistant" from the "Tools" menu. It allows HTML and JavaScript code to be added in four different ways:

1) Attached to an item (image or text) at a specific loction within your page. To add custom attributes to the <BODY> tag itself: 1) Make sure there are no items selected on your page.
