2 Commitment: Emotional & Financial Buy-in We made multiple presentations to Council Rick Gantt, Gallagher Benefit Services, Wellness Consultant did presentations as well Employee Wellness Committee (20+ Members) Funding Dedicated Wellness line item in the Town s budget Some expenses came from the health insurance budget At first we were warm and fuzzy. 8 Where We Are Today The Healthcare System is Broken We Need a Paradigm Shift Employees Need to Be Wise Consumers There are Ways to Take Charge of Your Healthcare If This Doesn t Work, We ll Move to an HSA Be A Wise Consumer (January 2013) In the Tri-County Area, Facility Charges Range from: MRI spine, brain: $1,800 to $430 COLONOSCOPY: $5,561 to $897 CT head: $1,600 to $300 KNEE ARTHROSCOPY w/ REPAIR: $16,000 to $2,700 Lesson Learned: Price Does Not Equal Quality Medical Advocate Program Establish guidelines for the minimum volume of that exact proceduredone annually Review physician s complicationrates, mortality rates, length-of-stay, as indicators Examine malpractice suits & disciplinary actions Explore physician education, license and Board Certifications Address the location of the facilities where they have admission rights and the network reimbursement fee structure Confirm the physician is available and remains in network, with a call to their office 8

9 Incentives to Use MAP It Does No Good If No One Calls If participants work with MAP, they receive incentives: $25 if you call MAP $125 if you take the advice of MAP for an outpatient procedure Excludes x-rays, ultrasounds, lab work, and urgent care facilities $250 if you take the advice of MAP for an inpatient procedure Lesson Learned: People Love MAP! They Feel Empowered. Bonus: MAP saved $59,810 in the First Six Months Our Newest Journey is Beginning Expanded EWC to 8:00 5:00 Monthly Saturday Clinic Hours Off-site Office in North Charleston Male Physician on Board Since November 2013 Double-Certified: Family Practice and Pediatrics Finalizing Recruitment of a Female Physician Lesson Learned: Recruitment has Taken Much Longerthan Expected Bonus: People LOVE Our New Doc! 9
