1 Aspen ONE V8 Installation Instructions 1. VPN Connection A VPN connection to the University network is required in order to install or access the Aspen software offsite. This is to allow the software to establish a connection to the license server. Info about the Student VPN service can be found here: 2. Aspen System Requirements This section provides the hardware and software requirements for the Aspen Engineering products. a) Aspen Engineering V8.0 Hardware Requirements Minimum Requirements Intel 1.00GHz or higher DVD ROM 40 GB available disk space 1 GB RAM on XP 2 GB RAM on Windows 7 ASPEN WILL NOT RUN ON AN APPLE COMPUTER OR IPAD YOU NEED A WINDOWS BASED MACHINE Recommended Intel Core 2 Duo 2.00GHz or higher DVD ROM 250 GB 3 GB RAM or higher Disk Space: The programs require about 5 GB when all Aspen Engineering functionality is installed. Additional space may be required while installing so about 10 GB of free space is recommended. Additionally programs generated temporary files that may occupy space depending on how you use the programs. b) Checking Account Privileges When installing Aspen products, you must use an account with Local Administrator privileges. For information on checking Account Privileges, see your Microsoft documentation.

2 c) Aspen Engineering V8.0 Software Requirements Operating System Desktop, One of: Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 x86 Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 x64 Windows 7 Professional SP1 x86 Windows 7 Professional SP1 x64 Windows XP Professional Edition SP3 x86 The following software requirements apply to all Aspen products: Internet Explorer 8 or higher (Windows 7) Adobe Reader MS Office 2007 SP3 32 bit or MS Office 2010 SP1 32 bit Microsoft.NET Framework 4.0 If you are using Windows XP, you need to install SQL Server Express 2008 R2 SP1: 1. Make sure that Windows Installer 4.5 is installed. If not, navigate to Aspen 8\Version 8 DVD1\3rd Party Redistributables\Microsoft Windows Installer 4.5 Click on WindowsXP KB v3 x86.exe 2. Navigate to Aspen 8\Version 8 DVD1\3rd Party Redistributables\Microsoft SQL Express 2008 R2 SP1 3. Click on SQLEXPR_x64_ENU.exe 4. If and when asked, select default instance and 5. When the Authentication Mode screen is shown, select Mixed Mode and enter an 8 digit password (example: ABCD1234). If you do not have Microsoft.NET Framework 4.0 : 1. Navigate to Aspen 8\Version 8 DVD1\3rd Party Redistributables\Microsoft.Net Framework Double Click dotnetfx40_full_x86_x64.exe 3. Restart your computer after installing the prerequisites.

Getting Aspen Navigate to the following location: Staff: \\storage2.eng.unimelb.edu.au\software\aspen 8 Students: \\storage1.eng.unimelb.edu.au\labdata\aspen\aspen 8 Copy the folder Version 8 DVD1 onto yourr local PC s hard drive. (Approximate size is 7 GB this may takee over an hour to transfer and is best transferred via wired network at the university) Or You may borrow a copy of Aspen ONE V88 from the library. 4. Install Aspen Run Setup. exe from within the VERSION 8 DVD1 folder, making sure you have administrator rights on your PC (if the installer does not start automatically) You will be presented with this installer window: Even though your Windows OS might be Win7 64bit, please stick with the e 32 bit version, as not all Aspen components are available in 64 bit. Click on Install aspenone products

4 Here, select Custom Install You will be given installation options; Process Modeling (Aspenn Plus) will be preselected, as will Aspen Properties, once you also tick the Boxes for Process Modeling (Aspen HYSYS) and Economic Evaluation - Click Next> to continue..

5 You will now be asked to provide the name of the Aspen License Server. Be aware that you will need to be connected to the University network n to run AspenONE! This can either be done through UNIWIRELESS when on campus, or through a VPN connection In the License Server field, enter: aspen.license.eng.unimelb.edu.au and press the Addd Server button. You will receive this unfriendly looking message, but it is ok to ignore during the installation, so press Yes to continue

6 Now is a good time for a cup of tea, as the installation will take some time,, depending in part on the speed of your PC. When done, you should see the window below; time to press the Finish button

7 And you re done. Now it s time to test your new AspenONEE Installation First, you will need to be connected to the University network; as a mentioned earlier, you can do so by connecting to UNIWIRELESS when on campus - info here: the VPN (see the link earlier in the document) Once connected, and when starting any of the Aspen applications for the first time, you will or by connecting from home through receive this product registration window. Press Cancel and select Never Register in the resulting window!

8 All being well, your AspenONE software should be up & running. If you want to assure that you are, in fact, connected to the Engineering Aspen License server, select About in the File Menu, then click on the Licensing Information button. Now you should see the windows shownn below. If so, everything is exactlyy the way it should be.
