1 Jazary Olvera Graduation Date: May 2014 Hometown: San Jose, CA High School: Oak Grove High School, San Jose CA Interests: Fitness training, dancing, and fashion Future Job: Full-Time Analyst, Leverage Finance Investment Banking at Bank of America Merrill Lynch Dear LBSA Alumni Donors, The LBSA Alumni Scholarship is the first and only scholarship I ve ever applied to. I ve always been hesitant to share my background and experiences with others due to my socioeconomic status and demographic diversity. However LBSA has embraced my diversity and cultivated a supportive environment where I can be proud of my past achievements. This is the primary reason why I decided to apply to the scholarship. Even through the application process, I received guidance from fellow LBSA members which further strengthen my connection with the organization. I m very thankful to all the LBSA Donors and am currently using my award to help pay for tuition, textbooks and my move to New York for my fulltime job after graduation. I look forward to helping future LBSAer s with the scholarship process and hope to contribute as an alumna. Jazary Olvera

2 Carolina Rosas Graduation Date: May 2016 Major: Intended Business Administration Hometown: Hercules, CA High School: Salesian High School, Richmond, CA Interests/Activities: Running, LBSA, volunteering Prior and Current Jobs: Ernst & Young Intern, Daily Californian Dear Alumni, I want to take the time to thank you tremendously for your generous scholarship that you awarded me this past may at the annual banquet. School expenses continue to rise and every little bit of help makes a world of difference. Your scholarships are extremely thoughtful and I am so lucky to have been picked to receive one. I used the money to buy my books as well as school supplies and still have money left over to use for buying next semesters supplies and books. Books are so expensive but you have released the burden of me having to pay for them. Your scholarship not only helps me financially but also encouraged and encourages me to stay involved with LBSA and to continue to work hard in school. I am applying to Haas and am also the Director of Operations this year for LBSA. 3 Ariadne Valadez Graduation Date: May 2015 Hometown: Tranquillity, CA High School: Tranquillity High School, Tranquillity, CA Interests: Running, hiking and dancing when I am not busy with school, work or LBSA responsibilities. Current/Prior Jobs: Writing Tutor for 2 years because I enjoy helping other students perform well in their classes and become successful writers; Mentor to 3 seniors at Tranquillity High School with a project called Niño s Sanos Familia Sana; part of Berkeley Scholars to Cal, a group on campus that tutors low income middle school students in the areas of math and English; Fresno County Office of Education- Assistant Program Coordinator; Deloitte- Audit Intern [email protected] Dear LBSA Alumni, It is with immense gratitude that I write this letter to thank you for your generosity in helping students through the partnership of scholarships. I am a junior majoring in Business Administration and currently serve as the SVP of External Affairs for LBSA. I am passionate about my position because it allows me to leverage the LBSA sponsor network to provide internship and fulltime opportunities for our members. Coming from a rural town in the Central Valley has set additional struggles for me and LBSA has served as a support system to help me overcome these difficulties. My parents have instilled in me strong values and a desire to reach my goal of being a successful business leader. Thanks to your confidence in me, I am reminded that is it possible to accomplish my dreams and aspirations. The scholarships are extremely impactful because they help build stellar students and strengthen our experience here at Berkeley. Every semester, I strive to increase my GPA while staying involved in extra curricular activities to ensure that I am a well-rounded individual. Receiving this scholarship has made that task less difficult to undertake because it removes financial uncertainties. This year, receiving this scholarship was especially meaningful to me not only because it enabled me to take care of my rent and book expenses for the month, but also because it re-assured me that I have an organization that supports me. Leaving home was a really big step for me and my family, but joining the LBSA group at Cal meant finding my other family and support system away from home. Wherein, I was able to reduce my work-study hours and put more time into my school work.
