2 How the Dual Degree Partnership Works SUNY Polytechnic Institute (SUNY Poly) and St. Elizabeth College of Nursing (SECON) take pride in the individual advisement and attention given to students. Together, we look forward to helping you prepare to be a successful nurse in the 21st Century! Students attend SUNY Poly full-time in Year 1 taking reuired liberal arts and science courses while experiencing college life. Starting in Year 2 and continuing throughout Year 3, students begin nursing courses and experience hands-on clinical at local area hospitals and clinics, such as St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Faxton-St. Lukes Healthcare, St. Elizabeth Wound Care Clinic, and Golisano Children s Hospital located in Syracuse, NY. After successful completion of Year 3, students will be eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN ) and return to SUNY Poly for Year 4 to complete their Baccalaureate Degree. Year 1 Start full-time study at SUNY Poly and take science and general education courses as per the Plan of Study. Enjoy a diverse campus community with the advantages of social activities, support services & residential life. Year 2 Students begin nursing courses at SECON while continuing their reuired courses at SUNY Poly. Experience hands-on clinical hours beginning in the first semester! *To progress into the nursing curriculum for Year 2 of the program, students must maintain the reuired GPA and a minimum grade of C or better in reuired coursework.

4 I really enjoyed my A&P teacher - she gave us a great start to our nursing careers and made A&P easy to understand. As for SECON they have been great. I have extremely enjoyed the gracious staff that they have and look forward to working more with them in the next two years. SECON, Yr 2 of Benefits of the Dual Degree Partnership Program Complete the two degrees in four years Reserved seating for Year 2 if program criteria achieved Experience a nursing curriculum that is designed to support your academic success with experienced faculty who are consistently available to help Housing available for all four years Ability to work part time as an RN after Year 3 while completing Year 4 of the program An Attainable and Affordable Education How to Apply In order to apply, students must submit the online SUNY Application, The Common Application, or call (315) for a paper application. Applicants are reuired to submit the following: -Official High School Transcript -SAT/and or ACT Scores -Two letters of recommendation -Supplemental Application -Nonrefundable Application Fee *Students apply to the simultaneously by completing the SUNY Poly Application Form and indicating first major undeclared and second major coded NSGSE (nursing). Acceptance Admission to the is highly competitive, but each application is reviewed on an individual basis. It is recommended to turn in the application in the Fall term of the senior year in high-school. For early decision, students must submit their application by December 1st. A joint admission committee comprised of individuals from both colleges meet to review the applications and make the final decision. Students will receive the joint decision letter from SUNY Poly & SECON. Tuition and Financial Aid The cost of earning two degrees through the program is actually less expensive than earning a traditional bachelor s degree from a private, fouryear college. The financial aid offices at each college help students and their families apply for a variety of federal and state aid, student loans and scholarships. *It is strongly recommended that students and parents visit both campuses.

SUNY Poly and SECON offer some of the best technologically sophisticated classrooms and laboratories, the ability to receive personal mentoring by staff and faculty, and a full range of extracurricular activities. Students benefit from the smooth transition between SUNY Poly and SECON. St. Elizabeth College of Nursing has dual accreditation by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) and The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN; formerly the NLNAC). SUNY Polytechnic Institute is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) and the Nursing Programs are accredited by the Commisson on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). NCLEX Pass Rates: New York State NCLEX Pass Rate: 78.1% National NCLEX Pass Rate: 83% 2014 SECON NCLEX Pass Rate: 94% Job Outlook: Employment of RN s is expected to grow 26 percent from , faster than the average for all occupations. -Source: US Dept. of Labor Occupational Outlook Handbook I believe coming this far within the program is vastly due to the clarity of how the program is set up. Many students lack resources of personal counseling and help in knowing where they stand or where they are headed within any particular program. However, with this program, I am guided during course registrations & academic help from resources from both SUNY Poly & SECON. With the intensity of any nursing school, success can only be achieved if the students receive the maximum support and help to guide and lead them in the journey. -SECON Graduate, Yr 4 of 1+2+1
