University nd College Of Transfer Guide Disclaimer: It is the student s responsibility to keep abreast of changes to the curriculum guides or equivalency dates. This guide does not show all transferable courses from this college. To see all transferable courses please visit the transfer course list on the website at: or contact Transfer dmissions at

Introduction Two important points about these guides: 1. This guide does not show all transferable courses from this college. To see all transferable courses please visit the transfer course list on the website at: or contact Transfer dmissions at Information in this guide is subject to change. Please notice the effective dates and check the web site to see if there have been changes made since the guide was printed. This Transfer Guide shows community college students how to choose classes at the community college so that when they transfer to, the classes will count toward their graduation requirements. Each guide shows the Liberal Studies requirements (called General Education requirements at other colleges) for the majors in a college or school at, and then lists what courses at the community college have been approved to fulfill those requirements. The guides also show introductory or core course requirements in majors that can be taken at the community college. It is not required that student take core or introductory courses before transferring, they are listed to help in providing appropriate options when needed. For Undeclared Majors: For students who still have not chosen their major, please notice that often the major at makes a difference in what is required in the Liberal Studies Program. Our best recommendation for undeclared students is that they follow the requirements of the II General Education Core Curriculum (II/GECC), a curriculum offered at all Illinois Community Colleges and one that accepts in a standard way, no matter what major you choose at. The II/GECC acceptance policy is included in this guide along with the Transfer Policies from the catalog. The Schools of Music and Theater at The Theatre School and School of Music at welcome transfer applications, but few transfer students are admitted to either school. ll music applicants and acting students must pass a stringent audition process, in which they need to demonstrate a high level of artistic proficiency and skill. ecause much of the course work is sequential, applicants would begin in the fall of each academic year; mid-year applicants are not accepted. ll courses in the major must be completed at, and most courses are offered throughout a four-year span; therefore, many transfer students will be at for an extended period of time. For more information, please contact the admissions offices of The Theatre School at (773) and the School of Music at (31) The School for New Learning at The School for New Learning, or SNL, provides a unique approach to learning for adults. This competence-based curriculum asks students to show proof of competence in 50 cognitive areas. Those competence areas have been equated with community college courses to show how they transfer and that can be found on the web site at SNL does accept the II/GECC as a package that meets many of those competence requirements. Read the II/GECC policy and the SNL web site to learn exactly how this would work. For more information, please contact the admissions offices of The School for New Learning at (31) Glossary/Notes: 1. Course and class are used interchangeably throughout the guide so are credit and hours. t, a course (class) can be offered at various levels of credit (hours) but is most typically 4 quarter credits. See Transfer Policies to learn how to convert semester credits to quarter credits.

. When you see a course like this: SPE 101 it means that the course does transfer but it cannot count in the category in the major or cluster of majors where the course is listed. 3. Liberal Studies Requirements = General Education Requirements. 1) divides its liberal studies (general education) into the First Year Requirements and the Learning Domains. ) First year requirements are listed first in the guide, and typically have one course from the community college that matches the course required at. 3) The Learning Domains = categories of the Liberal Studies program. Usually, there are many choices at the community college to choose from to fulfill these categories. Some advice:. Notice how many courses are required in a Learning Domain (category)? This is different depending on the major at.. lso pay attention as to whether there are special requirements in a Learning Domain because of your major? Example, many majors require a special ethics course in the Religious Dimensions Learning Domain, like The Computer and Social Responsibility. Some majors insist on a lab science, whereas others will accept either a quantitative course or a lab science course. The Learning Domains are: a) &L rts and Literature b) PI Philosophical Inquiry c) RD Religious Dimensions; Ethical Questions and Religious subcategories d) SI Scientific Inquiry; Quantitative, Lab, and Elective subcategories e) SSMW Self, Society and the Modern World f) UP Understanding the Past; several geographical subcategories 4. Major Clusters: a collection of majors in a college at that have the same distribution of courses required in the Learning Domains. 5. Please note the following graduation requirement, which affects transfer of coursework in the senior year: The () student must have completed the residency requirement, i.e., he or she must have completed the following work at University: the final 60 quarter hours of credit; one-half of the credit earned in the major area of concentration; one-half of the credit earned in the minor if applicable; all courses in the senior year. (Source: the 008 Student Handbook.) 6. There are limits to the amount of transfer coursework that can be applied to your degree. You may transfer a maximum of 66 semester hours/99 quarter hours from two-year institutions and a maximum of 88 semester hours/13 quarter hours from four-year institutions.

University Transfer Policies The following statements describe s transfer credit policies: 1. will accept for transfer credit baccalaureate-level courses completed at baccalaureate granting, US institutions fully accredited by one of the regional accrediting bodies of the ssociation of Schools and Colleges. will also accept transfer credit from tertiary level international institutions that are formally recognized by their country s ministry of education or its equivalent.. will accept for transfer credit college-level courses that are earned in ssociate of rts and ssociate of Science degree programs at -year institutions fully accredited by one of the regional accrediting bodies of the ssociation of Schools and Colleges. 3. Course credit earned at -year accredited institutions in other degree programs, such as the ssociate of pplied Sciences or ssociate of Fine rts degrees, will be reviewed for transfer credit on a course-bycourse basis. When necessary, students will be expected to provide bulletin descriptions and course syllabi to facilitate the review process. 4. In general, courses presented for transfer from -year, regionally accredited institutions that are earned in a certificate or professional training capacity are not eligible for transfer credit. Examples of these programs include, but are not limited to: air conditioning, automotive technology, culinary arts, travel management, paralegal studies, fashion design, child care, electronics, and medical office assistant. 5. Developmental courses (for example, pre-college level courses in math or writing), whether from -year institutions or baccalaureate granting institutions, are not accepted for transfer credit. 6. Only courses with a grade of C- or higher will apply to the student s major. 7. Students transferring the equivalent of WRD 103 and/or WRD 104 must have received grades of C- or better in these courses in order to fulfill the Liberal Studies requirement. 8. If a student has attempted a course more than once, only the most recent grade will be used for credit review. ll other attempts will be considered repeats and will transfer no credit. Transfer courses will be identified as repeats if they meet the following criteria: 1. The same course (as identified by course title and number) is taken more than once at the same institution;. Two or more courses taken at different institutions are evaluated as meeting the same objectives. 9. Credit by examination is acceptable, in some areas. See the Credit y Examination policy for details. 10. ll credit taken at foreign institutions will be subject to review by the Office of International dmission for admission purposes to determine what courses are transferable to University. Students may be required to submit detailed course descriptions and syllabi (translated into English) to determine if credit taken at a foreign institution is transferable to University. Failure to indicate attendance at a foreign institution prior to enrolling at University may result in denial of admission, dismissal from the University or ineligibility for graduation or the conferral of a degree. 11. ny credit earned as part of one s military service through a regionally accredited institution will be reviewed on a course by course basis. 1. Transferrable courses taken more than ten years prior to admission will earn open-elective credit. However, due to rapid changes in some areas of study, such courses may not be applicable to the major or minor, subject to a review of course content by a faculty academic advisor or by a staff academic advisor in consult with faculty when deemed appropriate. ll transfer credit taken at another institution while concurrently enrolled as a student are subject to approval by the student s college/school before transfer credit will be accepted. (See Supplemental Transfer Credit Form.) Students may appeal to a Transfer Credit Review oard for one additional review of particular courses not accepted for transfer credit. Students who make such a request must be prepared to supply official course descriptions and course syllabi. The review of all transfer credit is subject to limitations in accordance with the educational policies of University. Transfer Credit Conversion: University s academic calendar is based on the quarter system. College credit is accumulated on the basis of quarter hours. To convert credit hours from the semester system to the quarter system, multiply 1.5 (example: 3 semester hours x 1.5 = 4.5 quarter hours). The minimum number of hours required for graduation with a bachelor s degree is 19 quarter hours.

and the Illinois rticulation Initiative/ General Education Core Curriculum University participates in a state-wide agreement with over 100 colleges in Illinois that is aimed at making transfer predictable and smooth. The agreement is called the Illinois rticulation Initiative, or the II. participates in the General Education Core Curriculum of the Illinois rticulation Initiative only ( does not participate in Phase Two, the Major Phase). Completion of the II General Education Core Curriculum, also called the II/GECC, at any participating college or university in Illinois ensures transferring students that most of the lower-division general education requirements at have been satisfied. For students transferring into 's School for New Learning, see below. Students who have completed the II General Education Core Curriculum will still have to meet the following mission-specific requirements at : the Experiential Learning and Senior Year Capstone courses, two Philosophical Inquiry and two Religious Dimension courses that fulfill the Liberal Studies Program requirements. If students have completed all or a portion of the philosophy and religion requirements, students should talk with their academic advisor at about what liberal studies program courses to take instead. Students not successfully completing the II/GECC will have their transfer courses reviewed on a course-by-course basis. This agreement is in effect for students entering an associate or baccalaureate degree-granting institution as first time freshmen in the summer of 1998 and thereafter. The School for New Learning (SNL) is a unique college at with degree programs designed for adult learners. eginning in Fall , policies were developed that help adult transfer students from Illinois community colleges who have completed the II/GECC package make a smooth transition into any of the SNL degree programs. The SNL curriculum can be individualized or students can pursue joint degrees that include courses from SNL and other colleges at. Learn about the SNL competence-based approach to learning that is particularly suited to adult learners seeking to complete their bachelor's degrees." Follow this link: SNL EVENTS to attend an SNL Undergraduate Information Session that will help you see how transferring into SNL with the II/GECC package can work for you, or contact the SNL dmissions office at (31) ny other college-level courses that the adult transfer student has completed above and beyond the II GECC will be considered for transfer under normal SNL transfer course policies.
