As its concept, technology, and standards are still at a preliminary stage, fewer operators and enterprises are willing to adopt SDN technology at this moment. To improve the popularity of SDN, Open Networking Foundation and OpenDaylight Project have collaborated with many leading vendors and gained some progress in forming industry standards. Current Status of SDN Standards Organizations 1.1 Background SDN (Software-Defined Network) has become one of the few topics that have brought new attention to the network communications industry in recent years, mainly due to its great potential to radically change the networking architecture and hence affect existing players in the industry. However, as the development of SDN is at its infancy, lots of works still need to be done to elaborate the whole idea of SDN. Although a number of vendors and research institutes are optimistic about the SDN technology and its market potential, there is yet consensus on its concept, technological development framework, and standards. While many SDN products are now available, most vendors hold widely differing views on what is "software-defined". Comparing the feverish discussions with the in-progress technology, one could not help but wonder: will SDN end up becoming another technology bubble? 1.2 Current Development 2.
