10 General Questions about Transferring 1. What is the step-by-step transfer process? a. Take an education course to decide if an education major is right for you. b. Speak with Judy Carbone in Career Services ( ; LC 688). This will help you with the little details of transferring. c. Pick a school. Note that this packet contains only a partial listing of schools. To help narrow down your choices you can attend/do any and all of the following: Search for schools in Maryland in the ARTSYS system ( search for out-of-state schools on d. Begin taking classes to fulfill the AAT requirements. e. Familiarize yourself with your transfer school s education requirements for admissions by visiting the school s website, contacting a representative, or meeting with an advisor. In the case of out-of-state schools, it may be better to major in General Studies instead of an AAT, but make sure you thoroughly look at the admissions requirements and talk with an advisor before making a decision. f. Once you have picked the school, apply and send the necessary paperwork well before the deadline. Also, give yourself plenty of time to look into scholarship opportunities and housing options. 2. When should students contact a representative? As soon as they become interested in a school. 3. What can students do with their current advisor to help prepare for transferring and meeting with the representative? Create a semester class outline to help map out what classes you will be taking. Take this outline to your meeting with the school s representative so they can ensure that you are on the right track and meeting the proper requirements. 4. Is it better to transfer with an AAT degree? Yes! Completing the AAT provides students with the most efficient transfer opportunities for schools in Maryland. For out-of-state schools, work with your advisor and Career Services to develop a completion plan. 5. When should I figure out what school I want to transfer to so that I know what credits will transfer? The sooner you decide on a school the easier the process will be. 6. When is the best time to visit a transfer school? As soon as you know you are interested in the school. Most schools have both fall and spring semester Open Houses. You can also schedule an individual visit by contacting the transfer admissions representatives at the schools you want to visit. Thanks to Stephanie Paré, FCC AAT student, for compiling this information.
