1 National Certificate in Project Management (Level 4) Application Instructions National Certificate in Project Management (Level 4) Welcome to SIT2LRN, Southern Institute of Technology s distance learning faculty. SIT2LRN offers you the opportunity to study wherever you have a computer with access to the Internet under our Zero Fees Scheme. APPLICATION CHECKLIST Please use the following checklist to ensure that all relevant information and documentation has been included, and RETURN TO US WITH YOUR APPLICATION. Remember, your application will be assessed based on the information that you provide us with. Processing of your application will be interrupted if we need to come back to you for missing information. 2 WHAT IS THE ZERO FEES SCHEME? The Zero Fees Scheme means we do not charge tuition fees. However, there is a Student Direct Material Cost that you need to pay and an administration fee. The administration fee is for processing your application and the Student Direct Material Cost gives you secure access to Blackboard our online learning environment and to student support services throughout your study with us. WHO QUALIFIES FOR THE ZERO FEES SCHEME? A New Zealand citizen completing the full qualification or An Australian citizen/new Zealand Resident or Permanent Resident who is currently living in New Zealand and completing the full qualification. INSTRUCTIONS TO HELP YOU WITH YOUR APPLICATION: 1. Read the attached Programme Fact Sheet and the SIT2LRN FAQs on the SIT website and find out if you meet the application criteria for both the programme and the unit/s you wish to study. 2. Check your eligibility for Zero Fees. If you are not eligible to study under this scheme, please call for further options. 3. Fill in the attached Flexible Learning Application Form & Enrolment Contract checking that: a. If you are a returning student you: Fill in the blue dot sections of the application form only. Attach photo identification (this must be a copy of your driver s licence, passport or 18+ card). This does not need to be verified. Attach supporting documents, as outlined on the previous page, and the completed checklist. b. If you are a new student you: Fill in all sections of the application form. Attach a copy of your verified ID (a copy of either your birth certificate or passport which has been stamped and signed by any one of the following JP, Barrister, Court Deputy Registrar, Member of Parliament, Land Transport NZ, Public Trust, member of the New Zealand Police, School Principal, Minister of Religion or GP). Attach all academic documentation to support your application including copies of any certificates of courses you have undertaken / NZQA record of achievement / transcripts / CV. Attach supporting documents, as outlined on the previous page, including letter of intent, and the completed checklist.. 4. Remember to sign and date the application form and check it one last time to confirm you have included all the required information and supporting documents. Your application will be assessed based on the information that you provide. Missing information will delay the processing of your application. 5. You will receive acknowledgement confirming that we have received your application. Processing may take up to three weeks, however we will get in touch with you sooner if we require further documentation. Once your application has been accepted you will be sent a conditional offer of acceptance with an invoice and instructions on how to make payment. Once we have received your payment (or if you have opted to pay by Student Loan or Purchase Order) you will be sent an Enrolment Confirmation Letter and Important Information Booklet. Closer to the start of the intake you will receive a Time To Get Started Letter which will give you all the necessary information, tools and guidance to start your study with us. Demonstrate knowledge and skills against standards recognised by the industry sector as appropriate. Develop work habits and practices appropriate for further training and employment in the business sector. GRADUATE OUTCOME STATEMENT People awarded this qualification will have demonstrated that they have contributed to the management of projects, including the management of a straightforward project or a section of a larger project and working with others in a project team. APPLICATION CRITERIA All applicants should demonstrate a keen interest in project management and have academic attributes indicative of successful completion of the programme. Applicants should be a minimum of 18 years of age, with a minimum of 4 years secondary education. School leavers should have attained a minimum of 12 NCEA credits at Level 2 in each of 4 subjects. Mature students are welcome to apply. Applicants need to have a project on which to work during the time of study (this may be an unpaid community project or personal project that involves the management of external suppliers e.g. school gala, landscaping, wedding, home renovation). Applicants need to be part of a project team and, for US25219, to manage projects or a sub-project. ASSESSMENTS The assessments are all written assessments requiring paragraph or short essay type answers. More detailed programme content, additional application criteria for individual units, assessment information and suggested study paths/combinations can be found on the following pages. 4 PROGRAMME FACT SHEET National Certificate in Project Management (Level 4) PROGRAMME CONTENT The programme is made up of the following papers: Core compulsory papers all must be completed: US Apply scope controls to a project (Level 4) 5 credits People credited with this unit standard are able to contribute to scope definition for a project, and apply project scope controls to a project. US Apply time management techniques to a project (Level 4) 5 credits assist in the development of project schedules for a project; apply agreed schedules to a project using progress records; and participate in assessing time management outcomes for a project. US Apply cost management techniques to a project (Level 4) 5 credits assist with the development of a project budget; monitor project costs; and contribute to cost finalisation process. US Apply quality management techniques to a project (Level 4) 5 credits contribute to quality planning; apply quality standards; and contribute to continuous improvement, for a project. US Apply human resource management approaches to a project (Level 4) 5 credits assist with determination of human resource requirements for a project; assist with human resource control and stakeholder management for a project; and contribute to conclusion and evaluation of human resource practices and stakeholder management for a project. US Apply risk management techniques to a project (Level 4) 5 credits assist with risk analysis and risk management planning; conduct risk control activities; and contribute to assessing risk management outcomes for projects. US Apply contract and procurement techniques to a project (Level 4) 5 credits assist with contract and procurement planning for a project; contribute to contractor selection process for a project; conduct contracting and procurement activities for a project; and conduct finalisation activities for the contracting and procurement stages of a project. US Collaborate within a group/team which has an objective (Level 4) 5 credits People credited with this unit standard are able to collaborate within a team or group working towards achievement of an objective; and evaluate contributions to the team or group objective. US Apply calculations, data analysis and statistical interpretation in a business context (Level 4) 5 credits complete calculations for a business operation; compile, measure and analyse business data; and present and interpret business statistics for the analysed data. US Manage projects (Level 4) 16 credits This unit standard covers the management of a straightforward project or a section of a larger project. It focuses on the application of project management skills and the requirement to meet timelines, quality standards, budgetary limits and other requirements set for the project. define a project, develop a project plan; administer and monitor a project; finalise a project and; review a project. 5 PROGRAMME FACT SHEET National Certificate in Project Management (Level 4) Elective units complete a minimum of 9 credits from the following: US Use effective business writing skills in an organisation (Level 4) 4 credits People credited with this unit standard are able to select and present content and apply rules, writing style, and format to achieve effective communication for a business purpose; and evaluate the effectiveness of business writing. US Develop strategies to establish and maintain positive workplace relationships (Level 5) 5 credits People credited with this unit standard are able to develop strategies to establish and maintain positive workplace relationships in accordance with organisational requirements. US Manage and coordinate business meetings to achieve outcomes (Level 5) 8 credits People credited with this unit standard are able to plan and report on business meetings and conduct business meetings to achieve objectives. CROSS CREDITS Students who have previously completed any of the above units at SIT, or another learning institution, can apply to have the unit(s) cross credited to their record of learning at SIT. This is done by filling in a cross credit application form and attaching proof of achievement. The cross credit application form is available on MySIT or from the Programme Administrator. If you wish to apply for a cross credit, please attach the completed form to your application. Forms can be found at: UNSPECIFIED CROSS CREDITS Up to 15 credits from anywhere on the National Qualifications Framework, at Level 4 or above, may be cross credited into this programme. Please refer to the National Programme Document (http://www.nzqa.govt.nz/nqfdocs/quals/pdf/1500.pdf) or contact your administrator for more details. Granting of unspecified cross credits is at the discretion of the Programme Manager. These credits can be counted towards the qualification in place of the elective credits outlined in the programme. 6 PROGRAMME FACT SHEET National Certificate in Project Management (Level 4) SUGGESTED STUDY PATH/COMBINATIONS Full time study Full time study is completing 70 credits per intake. However, due to the intensive workload of the programme it is recommended that learners do not enrol in more than 50 credits per intake. Full time acceptance into the programme is at the Programme Manager s discretion. Part time study The number of credits selected per intake should depend on work, family, and other commitments. The recommended maximum number of credits per intake compared to working hours are: 37 + hours per week = maximum of 20 credits per intake hours per week = maximum of 35 credits per intake Fewer than 20 hours per week = maximum of 50 credits per intake Learners must complete the core compulsory papers in the order that they are listed on the application form. 9 Sign Contract/Declaration Withdrawal Terms and Conditions Documentation To qualify as a domestic student, and so to be entitled to the Government tuition subsidy, you must be a citizen of New Zealand (including students from the Cook Islands, Tokelau, or Niue who have New Zealand citizenship) or permanent resident of New Zealand or a citizen or permanent resident of Australia residing in New Zealand.
