Atlanta has been declaredd the Health IT capital of the nation. Future projections show high demand for qualified individuals to meet the burgeoning workforce needs of the sector. This program is a deliberatee attempt for us to play a vital role in responding to the workforce needs of the thriving Health IT sector in the greater Atlantaa area, the state, and the region, as well as projected growth nationally and globally. The MS in Healthcare Management and Informatics program is the first truly interdisciplinary program that has brought together resources acrosss campus in a synergistic fashion and opened avenues for collaboration opportunities. The proposed degree program has the potential to enhance KSU s prominence in educating a robust workforce, developing relevance through relationships with the Health IT industry, and supporting economic development for the state and region. The proposed graduate program in Healthcare Management and Informatics is a timely initiative designed to meet Georgia s need for practical expertise in this high-demand area. The future need and demand for expertise in this area is expected to explode over the next few years, and the proposed program design is a strong interdisciplinary approach to developing graduates with the expertise Georgia s healthcare system will need. The interdisciplinary nature of the MS-HMI proposal is a particularly strong aspect which will pull in expertise from across multiple disciplines by spanning multiple colleges and departments across the institution. As Chair of the Computer Science department, I am excited about the synergy between different disciplines to include computer science, and I anticipate that this program will be highly successful and will enhance the reputation of the university and our outreach to the community. The proposed program will enhance our community engagement and collaboration opportunities both on and off campus.
