7 Chapter 1 About this guide Introducing this guide This guide discusses the installation procedure for Symantec Mobile Management for Microsoft System Center 2012 Configuration Manager Replication Services. 9 Chapter 2 Replication Services Installation Procedure Overview Replication Services creates a copy of the SMM_CM database for recovery purposes and provides the synchronization of data across a site environment with multiple databases. Replication Services is required for multi-server environments. Note: Replication Services requires that port 1433 is open for the SQL server connection. The following graphic shows the SMM_CM database replication direction (Central down and Primary up) in a typical site environment:

10 10 Replication Services Installation Procedure Installation Procedure Installation Procedure This procedure installs Symantec Mobile Management for Configuration Manager Replication Services. Replication Services must be installed on every Central and Primary server where Symantec Mobile Management for Configuration Manager Services (SMM_CM database) are installed. To install Replication Services: 1. On each server, locate the executable and start the installation wizard by double-clicking the Symantec Mobile Management Replicator icon. 2. The Welcome screen of the wizard appears. Click Next to run the installation wizard for Replication Services. 3. Accept the software license agreement and click Next to continue. Optionally, click Print to print a hard copy of the license agreement before continuing with the installation. 4. Accept the default installation folder or click Change to browse and select a different folder. Click Next to continue. 5. Select the server type for the installation. Click Next to continue. 6. Depending on the type of server you are installing, perform either the Central Server Installation steps on page 11 or the Primary Server Installation steps on page 12.

If installing Replication Services on a Central server, the following screen and options display for configuring the Database Replicator Service: Database Name- name of the database for replication. Poll Frequency (minutes)- specifies the rate in minutes that the service will check for changes. Domain Suffix- suffix of the Central server domain, for example somedomain.net. When finished, click Next to continue. 2. If installing Replication Services on a Central server, enter the user login for the Replication Service Run As account. The Username field must be specified as Domain\Username. The user must be able to run as a service and have access to the source and replication databases. Click Next to continue. 3. If installing Replication Services on a Central server, select a database server for the installation. A list of servers is available by default in the Database Server drop-down list. If the current user is an SMS administrator, accept the default of Windows authentication credentials of current user. If not, specify a valid SQL server login. When finished, click Next to continue. 4. Click Install to start the installation of the Replication Services. 5. Click Finish to complete the installation of the services and exit the wizard. The final step of the installation is modify the Site Server Notification Table.

If installing Replication Services on a Primary server, the following screen and options display for configuring the Database Replicator Service: Local DB Server- name of the Primary server. Local DB Name- name of the Primary server database. Remote DB Server- name of the server that is a tier level above this server. Typically, this entry is the Central server. Remote DB Name- name of the database that is specified in Remote DB Server. Day of Week- specific day or all days of the week for the service to check for database changes. Select an option from the drop-down list. Start Time/End Time- specifies the time of day for the service to check for database changes. For example, a recommended setting is every 6 hours. Note: This time frame must be larger than the Polling Interval setting. Polling Interval- specifies the polling rate that the service checks for database changes. Note: This setting must be less than the time difference of the Start Time and End Time settings. When finished, click Next to continue. 2. If installing Replication Services on a Primary server, enter the user login for the Replication Service Run As account. The Username field must be specified as Domain\Username. The user must be able to run as a service and have access to the source and replication databases. Click Next to continue. 3. Click Install to start the installation of the Replication Services. 4. Click Finish to complete the installation of the services and exit the wizard. The final step of the installation is to modify the Site Server Notification Table.

13 Chapter 3 Modify Site Server Notification Table After the installation is complete, a record for each Primary Server that will be replicated to must be manually added to the Site Server Notification Table. To modify the Site Server Notification Table: 1. Stop the Provisioning Replicator Service. 2. Access the Site Server Notification Table (SiteServerNotification.dbo). The Site Server Notification Table has a single column which contains the full connection string for accessing the remote database on the Primary Server. The correct connection string can be found in the AthenaProvisioningReplicator.exe.config file. 3. Specify the connection string(s). The connection strings are in SQL Server Connection String format (not ODBC format). To reach multiple servers, specify multiple rows in the table. If the remote server cannot be reached by a trusted connection and allows SQL Server logins (Domain context only is allowed. The security context used is the security context provided to the Provisioning Replication Service.), then the string can use the connection parameters user ID and password to provide a SQL Server login to connect. The following is a sample table entry: RemoteServer server=e2primaryv2;database=smm_cm;trusted_connection=true:
