4 NEW ZEALAND TELECOM WARNINGS General English The grant of a Telepermit for any item of terminal equipment indicates only that Telecom has accepted that the item complies with minimum conditions for connection to its network. It indicates no endorsement of the product by Telecom, nor does it provide any sort of warranty. Above all, it provides no assurance that any item will work correctly in all respects with another item of Telepermitted equipment of a different make or model, nor does it imply that any product is compatible with all of Telecom s network services. This equipment does not fully meet Telecom s impedance requirements. Performance limitations may occur when used in conjunction with some parts of the network. Telecom will accept no responsibility should difficulties arise in such circumstances. This equipment shall not be set up to make automatic calls to the Telecom 111 Emergency Service. If a charge for local calls is unacceptable, the Dial button should NOT be used for local calls. Only the 7-digits of the local number should be dialled from your telephone. DO NOT dial the area code digit or the 0 prefix. This equipment may not provide for the effective hand-over of a call to another device connected to the same line. Important Notice Under power failure conditions, this telephone may not operate. Please ensure that a separate telephone, not dependent on local power, is available for emergency use. Some parameters required for compliance with Telecom s Telepermit requirements are dependent on the equipment (PC) associated with this device. The associated equipment shall be set to operate within the following limits for compliance with Telecom s Specification :- 1. (a) There shall be no more than 10 call attempts to the same number within any 30 minute period for any single manual call initiation, and (b) The equipment shall go on-hook for a period of not less than 30 seconds between the end of one attempt and the beginning of the next attempt. 2. Where automatic calls are made to different numbers, the equipment shall go on-line for a period of not less than 5 seconds between the end of one attempt and the beginning of the next attempt. 3. The equipment shall be set to ensure that calls are answered between 3 and 30 seconds of receipt of ringing. All persons using this device for recording telephone conversations shall comply with New Zealand law. This requires that at least one party to the conversation is to be aware that it is being recorded. In addition, the Principles enumerated in the Privacy Act 1993 shall be complied with in respect to the nature of the personal information collected, the purpose for its collection, how it is used and what is disclosed to any other party. 4

5 About this Easy Start This booklet contains information on setting up your Typhoon RedFun modem. It touches on the key installation procedures and allows you to setup your modem within minutes! For more detailed description of your modem and installation procedures, you may refer to the ReadMe.txt file and Typhoon RedFun 56K V.92 USB Modem User's Manual found on your Installation CD. The user's manual also contains the sections Frequently Asked Questions and Troubleshooting Guide. English Package Please see that you have the following 5 items in your package. 6 1. Connecting Your Modem English With the "Hot Swap" feature in this modem, you can connect the modem to your computer anytime, without having to power down your system! Connect as follows and Windows will immediately detect the new hardware and prompt for its driver! USB Port LINE jack telephone extension cable telephone wall socket USB cable USB port Connect one end of the telephone extension cable to the modem and the other end to a telephone wall socket. Connect USB "B" plug of the USB cable ( ) to the modem and the USB "A" plug ( ) to the USB port of your computer. This completes your modem connections. Please proceed to install the modem driver. The screen shots or screen information illustrated in this booklet serve only as a guide. The exact information you see on your system may vary, depending on your system configurations. For any dissimilarities, follow closely to the instructions as prompted on your PC screen. 6

7 2. Installing Your Modem Driver in Windows 98 SE 1 If you have connected your modem as shown in Section 1: Connecting Your Modem, you will be prompted for the modem driver. Place the Installation CD into your CD- ROM Drive and click Next. English the option "Search for the best driver for your device. 2Click (Recommended)." and click Next. 3 For the source of your modem driver, click Specify a location. In the text box, type 'D:\Win98' and click Next. (Assuming your CD-ROM drive is D. Else, substitute with the correct letter accordingly.) 7

Modem 6 A window for Country Select will be displayed. Select the country that you are currently in and click OK. This completes your modem driver installation in Windows 98 SE. Installing Your Modem Driver in Windows Me If you have connected your modem as shown in Section 1: Connecting Your Modem, you will be prompted for the modem driver. 1 English Place the Installation CD into your CD-ROM Drive. Click the option Specify the location of the driver (Advanced) and click Next. 2 Select Specify a location. In the text box, type 'D:\WinMe' and click Next. (Assuming your CD-ROM drive is D. Else, substitute with the correct letter accordingly.) 9

SmartUSB56 Modem 4 Click Finish to complete the software installation. 5 A window for Country Select will be displayed. Select the country that you are currently in and click OK. This completes your modem driver installation in Windows Me. Please proceed to Section 5: on Testing Your Modem in Windows 98 SE / Windows Me. 10

Installing Your Modem Driver in Windows 2000 If you have connected your modem as shown in Section 1: Connecting Your Modem, you will be prompted for the modem driver. 1 Place your Installation CD into your CD-ROM drive and click Next. English 2 Click the option Search for the best driver for your device. (Recommended). and click Next. 11

12 English 3 Windows will prompt for the source of your modem driver. Click the option Specify a location and click Next. In the text box, type D:\win2000 and click Next. (Assuming your CD-ROM drive is D. Else, substitute with the correct drive letter.) 4 Windows will prompt that it has located the driver. Click Next to proceed. You may be prompted with Digital Signature Not Found dialog box. (This happens when Windows is not able to detect a newer version of the modem driver.) Click Yes to proceed. 12

From the drop-list, select the Country that you are currently in and click Apply, followed by OK. This completes your modem driver installation in Windows Please proceed to Section 6: on Testing Your Modem in Windows

14 English 5. Testing Your Modem in Windows 98 SE / Windows Me The testing procedures for Typhoon RedFun USB Modem in Windows 98 SE and Windows Me are similar. The following screens captures are based on Windows Me environment. For any dissimilarities, follow closely to the instructions as prompted on your PC screen. 1 To check if your modem is installed properly, from your Windows taskbar, click Start > Settings > Control Panel. Double-click the Modems icon. 2 Click the Diagnostics tab. Select the 3 COM port that your modem is attached to and click More Info

15 4 You should be able to see a list of AT commands similar to the one as shown below. This means that your modem is successfully installed. Click OK. English (The information shown here may differ from what you see in your computer.) If your modem is not installed properly, the set of AT commands will not be listed. You may also be prompted by an error message, stating that it was unable to open the COM Port. If this happens, i) make sure that there is no communication software (e.g. HyperTerminal, Dial-Up Networking, etc) running. ii) from the Windows desktop, right-click My Computer. Select Properties. Click on Device Manager tab. Check whether there is any yellow exclamation mark on the Modem device. If yes, remove and re-install the modem device. (See Section 7: on Uninstalling the Modem Driver for Windows 98 SE / Windows Me.) 15

16 1 2 Typhoon RedFun V.92 56K USB Modem English 6. Testing Your Modem in Windows 2000 To check if your modem is installed properly, from your Windows taskbar, click Start > Settings > Control Panel. Double-click the Phone and Modems Options icon. Click the Modems tab. 3 You will see the Typhoon RedFun USB Modem - SmartUSB56 modem listed. Click on the modem and select Properties. 16

17 SmartUSB56 SmartUSB56 4 Click on the Diagnostics tab. English 5 Click Query Modem. 6 You will see a list of AT commands. This indicates a successfully installed modem. Click OK. SmartUSB56 If your modem is not installed properly, the set of AT commands will not be listed. You may also be prompted by an error message, stating that it was unable to open the COM Port. If this happens, refer to the Appendix B - Troubleshooting Guide While testing the modem, the system gave an error message stating that it was unable to open the COM Port. (The information shown here may differ from what you see on your computer.) 17

18 English 7. Uninstalling Your Modem Driver for Windows 98 SE / Windows Me From the Add/Remove Program Properties, select Uninstall and click Add/Remove.... Follow any online instructions to remove the modem driver. 1 2 From the Windows taskbar, click Start > Settings > Control Panel. Double-click on the Add/Remove Programs icon. 8. Uninstalling Your Modem Driver for Windows The uninstallation of modem in Windows 2000 involves 2 stages. You need to carry out both stage 1 and 2 to fully uninstall the modem. Stage 1: i. From the Windows taskbar, click Start > Settings > Control Panel. ii. Double-click on the Add/Remove Hardware icon. iii. From the Add/Remove Hardware Wizard, click Next. iv. Select the option Uninstall/Unplug a device and click Next. v. Select the option Uninstall a device and click Next. vi. From the list of devices, click Uninstall and click Next. Follow any online instructions to remove the modem driver. 18

19 2 Stage 2: i. From the Windows desktop, right-click My Computer. Select Properties. ii. From System Properties dialog box, select Hardware tab and click Device Manager... button. iii. Double-click on Modems. Right-click on and select Uninstall. Follow any online instructions to remove the modem driver. English 9. Installing Your Modem Driver - For Windows XP 1 If your modem is connected as illustrated in Section 1, you will be prompted for the modem driver. i Place the Installation CD into your CD-ROM Drive and click Next. ii Click Install from a list or specific location and click Next. iii Click Include this location in the search. iv v Click Browse. Navigate to the '\WinXP' folder on the Installation CD and click OK. Click Next to proceed. Windows will prompt that it has located the driver. Click Next to proceed. 19

20 English vi vii You may be prompted with Hardware Installation warning dialog box. This happens when Windows detected a newer version of the modem driver. Click Continue Anyway to proceed. Click Finish to complete the software installation. viii You will be prompted to restart your computer. Click Yes. This completes your modem driver installation in Windows XP. 1 dialog 10. Testing Your Modem in Windows XP To check if your modem is installed properly, from your Windows taskbar, click Start > Control Panel > System > Hardware tab >Click on Device Manager button. Under the Modems list, double click on "". Alternatively, you can call the same properties window from "Phone and Modem Options" in the main Program menu. 20

Click on the "Query Modem" button, and Windows XP will start the diagnotic process with the USB Modem. iii. If the Typhoon RedFun V.92 56K USB Modem is install correctly, the Dialog box with the "Command" and "Response" headers will list lines of data. iv. Under "Command" column, the list of ATI commands will appear. v. Under "Response" column, the list of replies from the modem will appear. iv. The entire process indicates that the modem is installed and functioning properly. English 11. Uninstalling Your Modem Driver for Windows XP i. Go Control Panel > System > click on the "Device Manager" button. ii. Under the Modems list, right click on the "" and select "uninstall". iii. Windows XP will then launch the uninstallation process for the modem. iv. Once completed, restart Windows XP again. 21

26 Typhoon RedFun V.92 56K ModemUSB Anschliessen der Modem Dank der Hot-Swap-Funktion des RedFun V.92 56K Modem USB müssen Sie den Computer nicht ausschalten, um das Modem anzuschließen. Gehen Sie zum Anschließen des Modems wie nachstehend beschrieben vor. Windows erkennt die neue Hardware automatisch und fragt nach dem Treiber. Deutsch USB-Anschluß LINE-Anschluß Telefonkabel Wand-Telefonsteckdose USB-Kabel USB-Anschluß Verbinden Sie das Telefonkabel mit dem Modem und mit der Telefonsteckdose. Verbinden Sie das eine Ende des USB-Kabel ( ) mit dem Modem und das andere Ende ( ) mit dem USB-Anschluß des Computers. Alle erforderlichen Anschlüsse sind vorgenommen. Installieren Sie jetzt den Modemtreiber. Die in diesem Handbuch aufgeführten Screenshots sind nur als zusätzliche Orientierungshilfe für die Installation gedacht. Je nach der Konfiguration Ihres Systems können sich die Abbildungen von der tatsächlichen Anzeige auf Ihrem Monitor unterscheiden. Halten Sie sich daher in die Online-Anweisungen. 26

27 Typhoon RedFun V.92 56K Modem USB Installieren der Modem-Treiber für Windows 98 SE 1 Wurde das Modem wie im Abschnitt Anschliessen der Modem beschrieben angeschlossen, werden Sie nun nach dem Modemtreiber gefragt. Legen Sie die Installations-CD in das CD-ROM-Laufwerk ein, und klicken Sie auf Weiter. Deutsch 2 Wählen Sie die Option Nach dem besten Treiber für das Gerät suchen (empfohlen), und klicken Sie auf Weiter. Wählen Sie die Option Geben Sie eine Position an, um für den Treiber den Quellpfad einzugeben. Geben Sie im Textfeld den Befehl D:\Win98 ein, und klicken Sie auf Weiter (ersetzen Sie gegebenenfalls D: durch den entsprechenden Laufwerksbuchstaben Ihres CD-ROM-Laufwerks). 3 27

29 Typhoon RedFun V.92 56K Modem USB Installieren der Modem-Treiber für Windows Me Wurde das Modem wie im Abschnitt Anschliessen der Modem beschrieben angeschlossen, werden Sie nun nach dem Modemtreiber gefragt. 1 Legen Sie die Installations-CD in das CD- ROM-Laufwerk ein. Wählen Sie die Option Position des Treibers angeben (Erweitert) und klicken Sie auf Weiter. Deutsch 2 Wählen Sie die Option Geben Sie eine Position an. Geben Sie im Textfeld den Befehl D:\WinMe ein, und klicken Sie auf Weiter (ersetzen Sie gegebenenfalls D: durch den entsprechenden Laufwerksbuchstaben Ihres CD-ROM- Laufwerks). 29

31 Typhoon RedFun V.92 56K Modem USB Testen der Modem für Windows 98 SE / Windows Me Der Testvorgang für Typhoon RedFun V.90 56K Modem USB ist unter Windows 98 und Windows Me sehr ähnlich. Die folgenden Screenshots wurden unter einer Windows Me-Umgebung aufgenommen. Folgen Sie im Fall einer abweichenden Anzeige den Anweisungen der Online- Hilfe. Doppelklicken 1 2 Falls Sie die Installation des Modems überprüfen möchten, klicken Sie in der Windows- Taskleiste auf Start, klicken Sie auf Einstellungen, und wählen Sie Systemsteuerung. 32 Typhoon RedFun V.92 56K ModemUSB 4 Eine Liste von AT-Befehlen wird angezeigt (siehe Abbildung). Dies bedeutet, daß das Modem korrekt installiert wurde. Klicken Sie auf OK. Deutsch (Die hier aufgeführte Anschluß-Information muß nicht mit der Meldung übereinstimmen, die auf Ihrem Bildschirm erscheint.) Wenn das Modem nicht korrekt installiert wurde, werden keine AT-Befehle aufgelistet. Außerdem kann die Fehlermeldung erscheinen, daß der COM-Anschluß nicht geöffnet werden konnte. Gehen Sie in diesem Fall folgendermaßen vor: i) Stellen Sie sicher, daß keine Kommunikationsprogramme (z. B. HyperTerminal, DFÜ-Netzwerk etc.) aktiv sind ii) Klicken Sie auf dem Windows-Desktop mit der rechten Maustaste auf das Symbol Arbeitsplatz. Wählen Sie Eigenschaften. Klicken Sie auf die Registerkarte Geräte-Manager. Überprüfen Sie, ob die Modemgeräte mit einem gelben Ausrufungszeichen (Fehlerzeichen) markiert sind. Sollte dies der Fall sein, entfernen Sie die Modemgeräte und installieren die Modemtreiber neu.(lesen Sie hierzu den Abschnitt Modemtreiber unter Windows 98 SE / Windows Me deinstallieren). 32

Doppelklicken Sie auf das Symbol Software. Rufen Sie Eigenschaften von Software auf, und wählen sie die Uninstall SmartUSB56 Modem. Klicken Sie auf die Hinzufügen/Entfernen.... Befolgen Sie alle eventuell vorhandenen Online-Anweisungen zur Entfernung des Modemtreibers. Collegare I'altra estremità della prolunga telefonica a una presa telefonica a parete. Collegate un capo del cavo USB ( ) al modem e l altro capo ( ) alla porta USB del vostro computer. In tal modo la connessione del vostro modem è terminata. Procedete per favore all installazione del driver del modem. 58 4 Vi apparirá una lista di comandi AT simili a quella illustrata. Ció comprova che l installazione del modem ha avuto successo. Cliccate su OK. (I dati sulla porta riportati in questa sede possono differire da quelli rilevabili sul computer.) Italiano Se il vostro modem non é correttamente installato, il gruppo dei comandi AT non sará visualizzato. Il prompt di sistema vi mostrera quindi un messaggio di errore, che comunica l impossibilitá di aprire la porta COM. In tal caso, i) assicuratevi che nessun software di comunicazione (per esempio HyperTerminal, Dial-Up Networking, ecc) sia in funzione. ii) cliccate con il pulsante destro, sul desktop di Windows, sull icona Il mio Computer. Selezionate Proprietá. Cliccate la scheda Gestione periferiche. Controllate che non ci siano punti esclamativi gialli sulla periferica del modem.
