The contents of the insurance are based on the insurance policy and the terms and conditions. Read the terms and conditions as they specify exactly the contents of the insurance contract. Claims are paid in accordance with the terms and conditions. During the insurance period, Pohjola can change the premium or other contractual terms to reflect new conditions, if, for example, the risk of loss or damage increases or diminishes if the policyholder moves to a different locality. When the insurance period changes, Pohjola can change the insurance terms and conditions, premiums and other contractual terms on the basis of changes in legislation, instructions from officials, or claims expenditure. Pohjola can in addition make minor changes to the insurance terms and conditions provided that the changes do not affect the primary content of the insurance contract. Pohjola has the right to demand that the premium for a motor liability insurance policy be paid in cash if a customer has registered defaults of payment or has outstanding premiums which have been transferred to a collection agency. 3

Motor Liability Insurance Every motor vehicle that is used in traffic must have motor liability insurance. Driving on private roads and yards and even on frozen sea, lake or waterway falls under the the Motor Liability Insurance Act, and you must have valid motor liability insurance. Motor liability insurance indemnifies, in accordance with the Motor Liability Insurance Act, for bodily injury in the policyholder s own vehicle, and for bodily injury or property damage caused to the innocent party and other parties involved. In the event of a motor vehicle collision, the damage sustained by the innocent party s vehicle is compensated for by the motor liability insurance of the vehicle whose owner, possessor, driver, or passenger caused the damage through negligence, if the vehicle was driven, stopped or parked against traffic regulations or if the vehicle was in defective condition. If there is no such negligence, damage to the vehicle is not compensated for by motor liability insurance. Motor liability insurance does not, therefore, indemnify for the insured vehicle itself, or for the loss or damage caused to goods in it. However, passengers are indemnified for damage to the clothes they were wearing or had with them and damage to personal effects. The actions of the party who suffered loss or injury may result in a reduction or denial of compensation. Driving under the influence of alcohol, travelling as a passenger of someone driving under the influence of alcohol, or the unlawful use of a motor vehicle can reduce the compensation, or result in compensation being denied completely. Crisis cover supplementary cover for motor liability insurance Traffic accidents that result in bodily injuries create difficult situations for the injured parties and family members. Motor liability insurance taken out with Pohjola can incorporate Crisis Cover, which includes death cover and indemnifies for the costs of crisis therapy, measures to promote recovery and home help. Crisis Cover is valid in Finland and available to vehicles of all age. The Crisis Cover terminates when motor liability insurance ends or is terminated. There is no deductible in compensation under Crisis Cover and compensation does not affect the no-claims bonus of the motor liability insurance. Crisis Cover is not valid during off-road registration. Benefit paid on the death of the policyholder If a motor vehicle insured with Crisis Cover is involved in a traffic accident that results in the death of the policyholder within a year of the accident, the next of kin or some other named beneficiary will be paid EUR 15,000 on the basis of the Crisis Cover. Motor liability insurance Expenses compensation for the injured persons and family members If the insured vehicle has been involved in a traffic accident in which a family member has died or been injured, the cost for any medical treatment, will be compensated under Crisis Cover. The policyholder and family members living in the same household with the policyholder are insured under Crisis Cover. The people covered by the insurance are compensated for the costs detailed below. Crisis therapy The insurance pays the insured for costs of crisis therapy prescribed by a doctor and provided by a doctor or psychologist, for a maximum of ten therapy consultations, however, up to a maximum of EUR 1,500 per traffic accident. The crisis therapy must start within six months of the accident and must be provided within six months. Travel and accomodation costs Crisis Cover provides compensation for reasonable travel costs of up to two insured people for a round-trip from their domicile to the area to where treatment is provided with reasonable accommodation costs, but up to a maximum of EUR 1,000 per traffic accident. Home help The insured person is compensated for costs of acquiring necessary home help after sustaining bodily injury. Home help may be needed by the injured person or other members of the family. Compensation for using home help is paid up to a maximum of EUR 500 per insurance event. Recovery compensation Recovery refers to the insured person recovering from a traffic accident. Recovery compensation is paid for action that promotes the recovery of a person who has been injured in an accident. These can be treatment procedures, events and the acquisition of goods. Recovery compensation is paid up to a maximum of EUR 100 per insurance event. Costs arising within six months Costs arising from travel and accommodation expenses, home help and measures to promote recovery are paid up to six months after the accident. Expenses compensation must be agreed with Pohjola in advance, and Pohjola will pay the insured person in arrears against receipts. Claimants must pay the therapy costs themselves and apply for compensation from the Social Insurance Institution (KELA) under the Health Insurance Act within six months of paying the costs. 4

Comprehensive Motor Vehicle Insurance Motor liability insurance does not indemnify you for damage to your own vehicle under any situation. If your car is damaged or falls into the wrong hands, you may end up with an expensive bill. For this reason it is advisable to have voluntary comprehensive motor vehicle insurance to protect yourself against nasty surprises. You can choose from Super Motor Insurance, Standard or Medium Motor Insurance for passenger cars, vans and lorries, and Maxi or Medium Motor Insurance for other vehicles. You can choose the option that suits your own needs from Pohjola s wide range of comprehensive motor vehicle insurance. Insurance for motor vehicles The table below illustrates what packages are intended for each type of vehicle. Insurance for campervans is, however, explained in the section on insurance for other motor vehicles. Super Motor Insurance Super Motor Insurance is the most flexible and comprehensive motor vehicle insurance that is aimed at passenger cars, vans and light lorries. Super Motor Insurance is particularly suitable for new and relatively new cars. Consequential Loss and Windscreen Cover, or Super Salvage can be included in or excluded from Super Motor Insurance at any time. Standard Motor Insurance Standard Motor Insurance is an inexpensive alternative for passenger cars, vans and lorries that are 6-15 years old and are valued at no more than EUR 15,000. This figure is also the maximum amount of compensation under Standard Motor Insurance. Medium Motor Insurance Medium Motor Insurance is the most limited and inexpensive motor vehicle insurance option that can be taken out on any type of motor vehicle. Vandalism and emergency road service cover may be included in or excluded from Medium Motor Insurance for cars. Insurance for other motor vehicles Maxi Motor Insurance Maxi Motor Insurance is insurance for motorcycles, snowmobiles, mopeds, all-terrain vehicles, campervans, voiturettes, caravans and light trailers and farm tractors that are 0-15 years old. Consequential Loss Cover can be included in Maxi Motor Insurance for motorcycles and campervans, while Replacement Value Cover may be acquired for new motorcycles of over 125 cc. Medium Motor Insurance can be taken out on vehicle of a maximum age of 25 years. Range of cover of comprehensive motor vehicle insurance Collision cover Collision cover provides indemnity against loss or damage to the insured vehicle that is directly caused by a collision, the vehicle careering off the road, or some other sudden event that causes external damage to the vehicle. A claim paid under collision cover reduces the no-claims bonus. Elk accident cover The cover compensates for loss or damage caused directly by a collision with an elk, reindeer or deer. The elk and deer accident cover included in the Super Motor Insurance additionally covers collisions with other wild animals. Elk accident cover does not provide indemnity for damage that results from avoiding a collision with animals. If the motor vehicle has collision cover, the damage will be compensated for under this insurance. Fire cover The cover provides indemnity against loss or damage caused by an outbreak of fire or by a short circuit in the electrical equipment of the insured vehicle. If the short circuit does not cause a fire but only damage to the electrical device itself, the loss will not be compensated for. Theft cover Theft cover provides indemnity against loss caused by damage to or loss of a locked vehicle or a vehicle in a locked shelter, if the cause was theft, theft for temporary use, unauthorised use, or an attempt at one of the above. The locking requirements for different types of vehicle have been specified in the insurance terms and conditions. The policyholder must report the matter immediately to the police and demand a conviction for the crime committed. Loss caused directly by the loss of a vehicle is compensated for if the vehicle is not found within 30 days of its disappearance being reported to the police and a copy of the crime report being delivered to Pohjola. If a locked motor vehicle has been taken illegally using the vehicle s own keys, the loss is indemnified only if the keys were obtained in connection with a robbery or by breaking into a locked storage space where they were kept. We recommend that electronic immobilising anti-theft devices and alarms approved by the Insurance Companies Committee for Automobile Repairs are installed. Vandalism cover Vandalism Cover compensates for damage caused to the insured vehicle by a wilful act of damage, if the time and place of the event can be exactly determined. Vandalism Cover does not provide indemnity against damage caused by another motor vehicle. Emergency road service cover If your vehicle breaks down, for example because of engine problem or collision, compensation is paid for lifting the vehicle back onto the road and towing it to the nearest garage, 6

or for any additional expenses arising from repairs carried out at the site up to the estimated amount of towing costs. In addition, other necessary extra expenses as a consequence of staying overnight or continuing the journey will be compensated for. For emergency road service cover that is part of Super Motor Insurance this will be up to EUR 500 and for the other types of insurance up to EUR 200, however, up to the amount that would be incurred by the journey home. Emergency road service cover that is part of Super Motor Insurance for passenger cars allows the use of a rental car for loss or damage abroad. Emergency road service cover as part of Medium Motor Insurance is valid in Finland, Sweden, Norway and Denmark. Legal expenses cover Legal Expenses Cover provides indemnity for vehicle owners, keepers, or drivers against necessary and reasonable legal expenses. The policyholder must inform Pohjola in writing beforehand of his/her intention to use the insurance. Compensation is paid only if the matter is dealt with by a legal adviser or lawyer. The dispute, claim or action must be based on an event that has taken place while the insurance was valid. Several disputes arising from the same matter are considered to be one insurance event. The maximum amount of compensation is EUR 8,500 per loss event. The policyholder s deductible is 15%, with a minimum of EUR 200. Consequential Loss Cover It is also possible to include Consequential Loss Cover as part of Super Motor Insurance and as part of Maxi Motor Insurance for motorcycles and campervans. Under Consequential Loss Cover, compensation for loss of use amounting to either EUR 40 or EUR 90 per day is paid, depending on which option was chosen when the insurance was taken out. The insurance compensates for lost days caused by collision or collision with an elk, fire, vandalism, windscreen damage or theft, which are not compensated for under motor liability insurance. Compensation for loss of use as part of Consequential Loss Cover is paid only if compensation is or would be paid for the above mentioned loss after payment of the deductible, or if the vehicle has been stolen. It is possible to choose a waiting period of either 0 or 3 days with Consequential Loss Cover. Compensation for loss of use is paid for a maximum of 30 days under Consequential Loss Cover. If Pohjola redeems the vehicle, the policyholder receives compensation for a maximum of 14 non-use days. Super Salvage Super Salvage may also be included as part of Super Motor Insurance, making it possible to redeem a car that has been damaged in an accident or has sustained some other damage on better terms than usual. Super Salvage at replacement cost Under the terms of Super Salvage, Pohjola will redeem a car at replacement cost, if: The car has only been in the policyholder s ownership or possession after the car s first registration, excluding a period of ownership by one car dealer lasting a maximum of six months. The car has had comprehensive motor vehicle insurance from the start. The car is a maximum of three years old. The car has been driven for a maximum of 60,000 km. The repair cost is more than 50% of the cash sales price of an equivalent new motor vehicle. Super Salvage at up to 30% more than the current value If not all the above conditions are fulfilled and the repair costs of the car amount to more than 60% of its current value, Pohjola will redeem the car on the Super Salvage basis for its current value increased by as much as 30%, however, up to a maximum of the current value at the time the car was purchased. If the insurance does not include Super Salvage, Pohjola can redeem a vehicle if its repair costs are more than 70% of the current value of the vehicle before the damage occurred. In this instance the redemption value will be the vehicle s current value. Replacement Value Cover for motorcycles Maxi Motor Insurance for a motorcycle of over 125 cc can also be supplemented with Replacement Value Cover. The amount of loss is in such a case the cash sales price of a new identical motorcycle at the time of loss or when the motorcycle in question was last on sale, if the motorcycle has been in the ownership or possession of the policyholder alone, apart from up to six months in the ownership or possession of a single vehicle dealer, and has been covered by comprehensive motor vehicle insurance from the time when it was first registered or should have been registered and a maximum of three years has elapsed from the motorcycle s first registration and the amount of repair costs estimated by Pohjola exceeds 50% of the cash sales price of a new identical motorcycle. Windscreen Cover Windscreen Cover can also be included as part of Super Motor Insurance. The requirement for granting the cover is that the windows are unbroken when taking out the insurance. Windscreen Cover provides indemnity for the car s windscreen and windows against breakages from a sudden blow without a reduction in the no-claims bonus. Financial Insurance Financial Insurance can be included as supplementary insurance in Super, Standard and Maxi Motor Insurance for vehicles purchased through instalments or leased, providing extra security for the car dealer, financing company, lessor, or pledgee. Motor vehicle insurance deductibles The policyholder can choose the level of deductible for collision cover at EUR 150, EUR 300, EUR 450 or EUR 600, for snowmobiles, street-legal all-terrain vehicles and off-road fourwheelers EUR 450 or EUR 600, and for mopeds EUR 150 or EUR 300 and for street-legal three-wheelers and voiturettes EUR 300, 450 or 600. There is no deductible for emergency road service cover. Consequential Loss Cover does not include a deductible in euros, but has a waiting period of either 0 or 3 days. The deductible for legal expenses cover is 15%, a minimum of EUR 200, and the amount for other types of cover is EUR 150. The level of deductible for collision cover with a no-claims bonus is EUR 150 or EUR 300. Other options come without a no-claims bonus. 7

Choosing a higher deductible will reduce your premium. The chosen deductible is recorded in the insurance policy. The deductible is subtracted from the amount of loss before compensation is paid. If theft occurs in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania or Poland, the deductible for passenger cars and motorcycles is 20% of the amount of loss, however, always a minimum of EUR 600. The deductible for material damage that takes place outside the Nordic countries is double for all motor vehicles. If an all-terrain vehicle is stolen while not properly locked up in a shelter, a triple deductible shall apply. Only one deductible is subtracted if the vehicle is both vandalised and stolen. The policyholder should be prepared to pay the deductible directly to the garage on collecting the vehicle. No indemnification for manufacturing defects, wear and tear etc. The insurance terms and conditions list loss and damage not indemnified by comprehensive motor vehicle insurance These include loss and damage caused, for example by: Manufacturing defects, wear and tear, poor maintenance or careless handling The vehicle s load or animals in the vehicle The vehicle having been abandoned Damage to the paint coating of the vehicle from paint, smoke and dust discharges. Compensation is not paid for depreciation, fuel, over-time compensation or airfreight. Compensation can be reduced or denied if the insured or a person with an equivalent status in terms of the insurance has caused the loss deliberately through gross negligence or grossly endangering traffic while driving or handling a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or other intoxicating substance, or while using the vehicle for a criminal purpose. Comprehensive motor vehicle insurance covers the vehicle together with its accessories Comprehensive motor vehicle insurance insures the motor vehicle recorded in the insurance policy together with its accessories included in the standard price and a second different set of tyres with rims. Fixtures and extras fitted to the vehicle and intended for use in the vehicle and equipment designed exclusively to be used in the vehicle also fall within the scope of the insurance. Standard accessories and extras fall within the scope of the insurance if they are in the vehicle. Fire and theft cover also covers accessories that are being stored separately from the vehicle in protected storage. The shelter must be a locked building or part of one which is not accessible without keys except by forced entry. The maximum compensation for radio and stereo equipment is EUR 2,600 for Super and Maxi Motor Insurance and EUR 700 for Standard and Medium Motor Insurance. It is advisable to keep the receipts of accessories for circumstances where compensation is claimed. Comprehensive motor vehicle insurance does not include for example Radios and stereos that are not fitted to the vehicle or connected to the vehicle s aerial or electric circuit Radios, music devices and phones in motorcycles, snowmobiles, all-terrain vehicles and mopeds Mobile phones, with the exception of the hands-free devices linked to the phone Equipment and structures intended for competitive use Pearlescent, decorative and other special paint work or tape Territorial Scope of Motor Vehicle Cover The areas in which motor liability insurance, Crisis Cover and comprehensive motor vehicle insurance are valid differ. Motor liability insurance Motor liability insurance is valid in the countries of the European Economic Area (EEA). A road accident caused by a vehicle insured with motor liability insurance in Finland is indemnified either in accordance with the laws of the country where the accident occurred or in accordance with the Finnish Motor Liability Insurance Act if the cover provided by the latter is better. Motor liability insurance is also valid in other Green Card countries. In these countries loss or damage is covered according to the legislation of the particular country in which the event occurred. In many of these countries, motor liability insurance will not indemnify any personal injury to the driver or passengers, so traveller s insurance or accident insurance may be called for. The amounts indemnified may also be inadequate by Finnish standards. Crisis Cover is only valid in Finland. When planning to travel outside the Nordic countries, make sure to contact Pohjola well before the trip to ascertain the validity and scope of your insurance. Pohjola can provide you with a green card detailing the validity of your motor liability insurance. Check what other insurance cover you will need on your trip. 8

Comprehensive motor vehicle insurance Comprehensive motor vehicle insurance is valid throughout Europe and in Green Card member countries outside Europe, with the following exclusions. Theft cover for passenger cars and motorcycles is not valid in Russia, Belarus, Ukraine or Moldova unless separately agreed. Theft cover for campervans is, however, valid in these countries, too. Theft cover as part of Medium Motor Insurance for passenger cars and motorcycles is not valid in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Russia, Belarus, Ukraine and Moldova. The area of validity for theft cover included as part of Medium Motor Insurance cannot be extended. Emergency road service cover included as part of Medium Motor Insurance is only valid in Finland, Sweden, Norway and Denmark and in transportation between these countries. Commencement and Termination of Motor Vehicle Cover Motor Vehicle Cover can be taken out at Pohjola branch offices, using the phone service, over the Internet, at car dealers or through our other representatives. Motor liability insurance Commencement The insurance comes into force on the date recorded in the insurance application, at the earliest on the day the application is signed. Registration Registering a vehicle requires that motor liability insurance has been taken out on the vehicle. You can also register your vehicle at most Pohjola branch offices. The technical part of the registration certificate is stamped and this acts as a temporary certificate until the new registration certificate is sent to your home in the post. Termination Motor liability insurance terminates when the ownership of the vehicle changes, the vehicle is removed from the register, or the possession of a vehicle acquired through hire purchase is returned to the owner. When a vehicle is transferred to a new owner, the insurance is valid for seven days, i.e. for the period of registration. If you want to transfer the motor liability insurance to another insurance company, it must be terminated in writing and the vehicle must be re-registered within seven days. Premiums can be collected by distraint without a judicial decision. If the premium for Crisis Cover is not paid by the due date, Pohjola can give two weeks notice of termination. If the premium is paid within this time, the insurance will be continued. Penalty interest must be paid for the period of delay in accor- dance with the Interest Payment Act. If Pohjola has to collect a premium, it will be entitled to compensation for the collection letters and costs. Crisis Cover can be terminated at any time. Termination must be in writing. Crisis Cover terminates at the latest on the termination of the motor liability insurance to which it is linked. Comprehensive motor vehicle insurance Commencement The insurance comes into force under the terms of the contract. If the date of entry into force of the insurance has not been separately agreed, the insurance generally comes into force when the policyholder has delivered or sent the insurance application. Certain things, such as payment default, may affect the approval of the insurance application or the commencement of the insurance. Termination The insurance will expire when the ownership of the insured vehicle is transferred to another person, but not when the possessor of a vehicle sold on hire-purchase becomes the owner. If the owner changes, the comprehensive motor vehicle insurance, excluding Consequential Loss and legal expenses cover, remains valid with the new owner as beneficiary for 14 days on transfer of ownership, if the new owner has not taken out new insurance on the vehicle. If the premium is not paid by the due date, Pohjola can give two weeks notice of termination. If the premium is paid within this time, the insurance will be continued. Penalty interest must be paid for the period of delay in accordance with the Interest Act. If Pohjola has to collect a premium, it will be entitled to compensation for the collection letters and costs. The policyholder can terminate the insurance at any time. Termination must be in writing. Pohjola can also terminate the insurance because of an increased risk of loss, for example. 9

What Factors Affect Premiums? The premium for motor liability insurance and comprehensive motor vehicle insurance depends on the type of vehicle, make, model, engine capacity, power, weight, age, home municipality of the vehicle, age and gender of the policyholder together with the bonus class and deductibles. The scope of the cover chosen and deductible also affect the premium for comprehensive motor vehicle insurance. Off-road registration and non-use period When off-road registration became possible, the handling of non-use periods changed. When a car is temporarily laid up, an off-road notification is sent to the vehicle register, from which it will be forwarded to Pohjola for the processing related to the motor liability and motor vehicle insurance. No separate non-use notification to Pohjola is required. The registration, which carries a charge, can be made in person at any inspection (MOT) station and most Pohjola offices. While laid up, the car cannot be used and the vehicle tax does not have to be paid. During the time the vehicle is laid-up, fire, theft, vandalism, legal expenses insurance, Windscreen Cover and Super Salvage are valid if they are included in the selected cover. In other respects, the insurance is not valid. For this time, a premium is charged for the processing costs of motor liability and comprehensive motor vehicle insurance and for the cover that is valid. Crisis Cover is not valid during off-road registration. Motorcycles are used the most from April to October (4-10 in the diagram). The share of the premium accounted for by collision cover and motor liability insurance is weighted for this period. No-claims bonus Motor liability insurance The no-claims bonus system of discounts granted on account of no-claims years and increases due to losses for which compensation is paid is applied to motor liability insurance according to the following table. No-claims bonus for motor liability insurance Bonus decreases Explation of the symbols Bonus decreases (during one insurance period) 1 claim 2 claims 1 insurance year s Seasonal rating Seasonal rating is applied to motor liability insurance and Maxi Motor Insurance for motorcycles, snowmobiles, all-terrain vehicles, mopeds and voiturettes and to Maxi Motor Insurance for caravans. The annual premium for collision cover with seasonally rated motor liability and comprehensive motor vehicle insurance is weighted for the season that these vehicles are generally used the most. This means that the vehicle is insured for the whole year and can be driven at any time. With seasonal rating, you do not have to tell us separately when the off-road period begins and ends. New insurance Seasonal rating for motorcycles Share of premium for motor liability insurance and collision cover Processing costs and the share of cover other than collision cover The no-claims bonus increases according to the arrows on the left hand side after no-claims years. The arrows on the right explain what effect one or two claims that are paid during the same period will have on the no-claims bonus. As a result of the third or more claims paid, the no-claims bonus drops to the lowest class of 0%. Any insurance policy with no former claims history or claims history that can be transferred to it is considered a new insurance policy. New insurance for motorcycles starts from +20%. 10

Comprehensive motor vehicle insurance If no claims have been made throughout an entire year on a comprehensive motor vehicle insurance with bonus entitlement, the bonus is increased by 10% a year, with 70% as the maximum bonus. Only claims paid on the basis of collision cover affect the no-claims bonus. The bonus will not be affected by losses compensable under the terms and conditions for collision cover if the vehicle was damaged by a sudden natural phenomenon such as a storm or hail shower. Comprehensive motor vehicle insurance no-claims bonus 8 years 70% 7 years 60% 6 years 50% 5 years 40% * ) Other discounts Mode of payment discount If you pay your insurance premium in one instalment, you will receive a 2.5% discount. Alarm protection discount You get a discount if you retrofit an alarm approved by the Insurance Companies Committee for Automobile Repairs to your car, van, lorry, campervan or motorcycle. Benefit for comprehensive motor vehicle insurance If you have earned a no-claims bonus on your motor liability insurance of 0 25%, you will immediately receive a no-claims bonus of 60% for comprehensive motor vehicle insurance with a bonus entitlement. If your no-claims bonus for motor liability insurance is more than 25%, you immediately receive a 70% no-claims bonus for your comprehensive motor vehicle insurance. The requirement is that a paid claim has not reduced the no-claims bonus on your motor vehicle insurance. 4 years 30% 3years 20% 2 years 10% 1 years 0% *) If the policyholder has had a no-claims bonus of 70% for at least five years with Pohjola and a loss event occurs, the bonus will only drop to 60%. Safety Regulations The insurance terms and conditions contain safety regulations. They explain the precautions you can follow to help prevent loss or damage or at least reduce any effects. Failing to comply with the safety regulations may result in compensation being reduced or denied. The driver of the vehicle must have a valid driving licence, or the right to drive a vehicle based on age. If you give a vehicle to someone else to drive, check the person s identity and right to drive. Do not drive if you are unwell and tired. The vehicle must be in a roadworthy condition as specified in the relevant rules and regulations. Make sure, for example, that the tyres and brakes comply with regulations. Locks must be in working order. Keep the keys to the vehicle and to its protected garage in a place where outsiders cannot get hold of them. A vehicle that has broken down must, in the first instance, be moved to a safe place. The vehicle should be checked regularly during non-use periods and at other times. Do not use an open flame in the garage where the vehicle is kept. Warm the vehicle only using devices approved for use with vehicles. Do not place a cover in the space between the bonnet and the engine. When a vehicle is repaired by welding, upholstery and other flammable structures must be removed from a sufficiently large area. Arrange supervision for the place where the repairs will take place and have fire extinguishing equipment available. 11

Loss or Damage and Claims for Compensation Driver s responsibilities in the event of loss or damage The driver of the vehicle is responsible for ensuring that the loss or damage is minimised or avoided and for taking part in any investigation into the loss event. Compensation may be reduced or denied if the policyholder or a person with an equivalent status in terms of the insurance neglects these responsibilities. Always make a note of the number plate, insurance company and personal data of the other party at the scene of an accident. The vehicle emergency service is available 24 hours every day - ring What should you do if your car packs up in the middle of the night in the middle of nowhere? What if your car is stolen? When should you call the police to the scene of an accident? In dilemmas such as these, Pohjola s vehicle emergency service is there to help wherever you are in the world. When ringing from abroad, the number is +358 (0) If the accident happens abroad, you can also call SOS International s English language service number on Submitting a claim and surveying the loss or damage If you are the guilty party in a traffic accident, or the damage to your own car is to be indemnified with your voluntary motor vehicle insurance, you must submit a claim, which can be done over the phone or on the Internet. If you are the innocent party in a traffic accident, you need not submit a claim. The guilty party submits the claim to his/ her insurance company. If it takes a long time to decide who is at fault, it is possible to agree that compensation for your car repair is first paid on your voluntary motor vehicle insurance. If your vehicle is roadworthy, you can arrange a time directly with the garage. Ask the garage to draw up a cost estimate for Pohjola. If your car has to be towed to a garage, arrange with them to order an inspection from Pohjola. If you want a lump-sum compensation for the damage, take your vehicle to Pohjola s nearest inspection station. A decision on compensation is only taken once the claim has been submitted and other necessary documents have been received. Note that the loss survey alone will not permit you to send an invoice to Pohjola. Claiming compensation A claim for compensation must be presented to Pohjola at the latest within one year from the claimant being informed of the right to compensation. The claimant must provide Pohjola with the documents and information necessary to settle the claim. Paying compensation Comprehensive motor vehicle insurance indemnity can be paid in different ways according to the amount of loss or damage and the potential to repair the vehicle: 1. Pohjola can pay the repair costs or a lump sum specified in advance. The repairs to the vehicle can include the use of parts that reflect the vehicle s age and condition before the damage. 2. Pohjola can redeem the insured vehicle at replacement value or the current value. 3. Pohjola can replace the vehicle with an equivalent vehicle or one of the same value or part thereof. Current value The uppermost limit of liability to pay indemnity is usually the current value of the insured vehicle or part thereof. The current value is considered to be the market cash sales price of the vehicle in question at the time of the loss. Indemnity under Super Salvage may be higher. Redemption at replacement value Pohjola can under certain circumstances redeem a damaged vehicle for the price of a new one. Passenger cars, vans and lorries may possibly be redeemed if they have Super Salvage as part of Super Motor Insurance, and this also applies to motorcycles with Maxi Motor Insurance supplemented with Replacement Value Cover and to campervans, caravans and trailers insured with Maxi Motor Insurance. Pohjola will redeem at replacement value a campervan and caravan insured with Maxi Motor Insurance if: The vehicle has only been in the policyholder s ownership or possession after first registration, excluding a period of ownership by one car dealer lasting a maximum of six months. The vehicle has had comprehensive motor vehicle insurance from the start. The vehicle is a maximum of one year old The vehicle has been driven for a maximum of 25,000 km. The estimated amount of repair costs is more than 50% of the cash sales price of a new identical vehicle. 12

Appealing against a decision made by Pohjola If you are not satisfied with a decision taken by Pohjola, it is first of all worthwhile contacting the employee in charge of handling the claim at Pohjola. You will then, together with the employee, be able to make sure that you have, for example, submitted to Pohjola all the necessary information related to the case. If you still disagree with the decision, you can take the claim settlement decision in writing to a customer ombudsman. After deliberating on the matter the ombudsman will get in touch with you either by phone or in writing. The address for the customer ombudsman is: Pohjola Insurance Ltd Customer ombudsman Lapinmäentie 1, FI Pohjola Fax: +358 (0) or asiakasasiamies@pohjola.fi If a mutual understanding cannot be reached, you can contact the Finnish Insurance Ombudsman Bureau, which advises and helps in insurance matters. The services provided by the Bureau are free of charge. You can also ask for a statement from the Finnish Insurance Complaints Board, or Consumer Disputes Board, or if it is a question of a road accident from the Traffic Accident Board. Communication with the Finnish Insurance Ombudsman Bureau and requesting a statement from the Finnish Insurance Complaints Board are exempt from formalities. A request for a statement must always be made in writing. A consumer may complain to the Consumer Disputes Board. The complaint must be made in writing, preferably using the form provided by the Board. Before taking the matter up with the Consumer Disputes Board, it is worth discussing the matter with a national consumer counsellor. The Finnish Insurance Complaints Board and Consumer Disputes Board are alternatives as a means of appeal. Consideration of the matter by the boards is free of charge and the decisions are recommendations. The Finnish Insurance Ombudsman Bureau and the Finnish Insurance Complaints Board Porkkalankatu 1, FI Helsinki Tel (0) , fax +358 (0) Consumer Disputes Board Hämeentie 3, FI Helsinki Tel (0) , fax +358 (0) With regard to traffic accidents, a statement can be requested from the Traffic Accident Board. Traffic Accident Board Bulevardi 54, FI Helsinki fax: +358 (0) You can also submit a decision to a court of justice either at your domicile in Finland or at the Helsinki District Court. The action must be raised within three years from when you were informed of the decision. If the matter is considered by one of the boards, it does not extend this three-year deadline. The Insurance Supervisory Authority supervises insurance companies. Insurance Supervisory Authority Mikonkatu 8 A, FI Helsinki Tel: +358 (0) , fax +358 (0)

General Information about Motor Vehicle Cover Short insurance glossary No-claims bonus - a reduction in the premium granted on the basis of no-claims years. Supplementary insurance cannot be taken out without basic cover. The only supplementary insurance for comprehensive motor vehicle insurance is Financial Insurance. The deductible is the part of the loss that has to be covered by the policyholder. The deductible is subtracted from the amount of loss before compensation is paid. Basic cover is cover that is a fixed part of an insurance package. Safety regulations are the insurer s instructions provided in the insurance policy, insurance terms and conditions or otherwise in writing on how the insured property must be protected. If the safety regulations are not followed, compensation can be reduced or may not be paid at all. The policyholder is the person who takes out an insurance contract with the insurer, i.e. the insurance company. The insurance period is the agreed period of validity of the insurance recorded in the policy. Insurance is valid for insurance periods of one year at a time. Insurance continues from one period to the next if it is not terminated. Optional cover can be included in the insurance in addition to basic cover, or it can be left out. Seasonal rating is seasonal pricing for motorcycles, mopeds, snowmobiles, all-terrain vehicles, voiturettes and caravans/ trailers where the premium is weighted for the months that the vehicle is statistically used. Seasonal rating allows the use of the vehicle when it is needed without separate notification that the vehicle is being brought into use. Minimum premium The premium charged for the insurance period is always at least the minimum premium separately confirmed for the insurance company in the terms and conditions (EUR 14 on 1 January 2009). Handling personal information When dealing with insurance matters, Pohjola handles customers personal information in accordance with the Personal Data Act and insurance legislation, and takes care that customers privacy is protected when handling personal information. Information is obtained from customers themselves, from authorised persons, from registers maintained by public authorities and from credit registers. Pohjola also uses its customer register for marketing directed to customers. Pohjola will not pass on customer details to outsiders without the customer s consent, unless passing on the information is based on a legal provision. For more information on the handling of personal data, please contact any Pohjola branch office, call our service number on +358 (0) or visit our company s website at where you can also view the specifications of files regarding a personal register. Claims and misuse registers Insurance companies have a joint non-life insurance information system which can be used in processing claims to check claims submitted to different companies and any misuse detected. These registers are used for preventing crime against insurance companies.
