Discover s Siemens Automation Cooperates with Education SCE 5 th edition May Alliance for career development SCE in China SCE cooperation in Europe Partnership in China The new SCE Application Center A head start in innovation is one of several factors required to secure competitive advantage. Cultivating innovation requires a fertile soil: forward-thinking investment in research and development, highly qualified personnel, and underlying future-oriented training. These are tasks that Siemens A&D takes seriously, including in China. The latest evidence of this dedication is the cooperation partnership for the Innovation Center for Vocational Development and Career Advice in the Chinese province of Fujian. This was emphasized by Armin Mayer, Vice President of Siemens Ltd. in China, representing Anton S. Huber, Vice President of Siemens A&D. In his speech on September 30, 2004 in the South-East Chinese province of Fujian, Mayer explained Siemens is a recognized and respected member of Chinese society and is contributing to the development of the country. We have our own R&D, engineering, and purchasing activities, and also support numerous education projects, similar to that which we are signing today. The China is ready to go high demand for further education speech was held at the ceremonial signing of a contract for setting up a local innovation center for vocational development and career advice. The two other partners involved in this currently unique cooperation project are the government of the province of Fujian, and the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate (partner state of Fujian). The Siemens as a Citizen When you do business in a country, you are a guest of that country. When you employ people in that country, when you do research and manufacture goods, you are a friend. However, when you bring knowledge to that country and train people, you are a true citizen. Chinese Saying planned innovation center is an important pilot project for the continuing and further development of school principals and teachers, as well as the leadership and staff of an existing vocational school and career development center. The province of Fujian is responsible for the facility, which is scheduled to open by 2009.
Discover 1/ Focus Teacher training now also offered in China Alliance for Career Development The continuing and further education and advisory service at the Fujian innovation center are focused on two related and mutually beneficial main themes. The first focus topic is school and lesson development, which currently includes fifteen subject areas ranging from quality development in schools and vocational training centers, to teamwork, negotiating skills, curriculum concepts, project and knowledge management, through to career profiles of modern careers. The second topic, methodical further education in specialist subjects, covers areas such as further education modules and advice on automation technology, processes and process visualization, as well as new organizational and work structures in modern companies. For Siemens A&D, the cooperation contract from Q provides further evidence of its long-term commitment in China (see inset), as well as the unusually high value placed on ed- Over 100 years of partnership Siemens in China 1872 First pointer telegraph is supplied Pre-1900 First Siemens power station in Beijing First electric tram is supplied 1904 The first Siemens subsidiary is opened in Shanghai 1904 onwards Opening of additional offices: locations include Beijing, Guangzhou, Tianjin, Qingdao, Wuhan and Harbin 2004 Decision to double the number of regional offices in China 2005 With nearly 30,000 employees and revenues approaching four billion euros, China is among the highest turnover markets worldwide for Siemens AG From left to right: Li Qing Zhou, Director of Foreign Affairs Office, Kurt Beck, Minister- President of Rhineland-Palatinate, Armin Mayer, Vice President Siemens Ltd. in China, Wang Mei Xiang, Vice Officer of the province of Fujian and Joachim Kessler, Partner Programs manager at Siemens A&D at the ceremony for signing the contract in China ucation. Armin Mayer (representing Anton S. Huber), also stressed this in his speech: Further and continuing education have traditionally been held in very high regard in our company. In combination with the innovation center, Siemens A&D has granted the usual allowances for research/development and education facilities, and is supporting the installation and commissioning of the TIA labs. They also plan to provide training in the area of Totally Integrated Automation for Chinese instructors, who will then pass on the knowledge as voluntary teachers in the educational institutions. This training will take place at the Institute for academic further education and academic psychological counseling (IFB) in Speyer (Germany), with Siemens A&D funding the board and lodging for a total of 100 person days per year. The IFB is a long-standing partner of teacher education in the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate, and is basing this project on its own model. Product and system training documentation for Totally Integrated Automation is included in the agreement as a part of free teacher development seminars, which have already proven successful in Germany. rmation on teacher training modules at:
Focus Discover 1/ SCE Cooperation in Europe Partnership for Educational Success Education is the basis for maintaining a competitive economy, and therefore for the cohesion of society in general. In this sense, education is a task for the whole community, and one in which every state also requires competent partners from the world of business. With its project Siemens Automation Cooperates with Education, known as SCE, Siemens A&D is meeting this responsibility to society and is currently collaborating successfully with culture ministries, education authorities, and higher education institutes in several European countries. Technical and vocational standards are constantly evolving, and the area of automation is no exception. To ensure that the level of education keeps up with modern demands, a successful partnership between state education providers and competent companies is in demand more than ever. With its range of activities and offerings within the SCE project, Siemens A&D provides a sustainable and strategic foundation for this collaboration. Many culture ministers and higher education institutions throughout Europe have already declared their support for the concept by signing cooperation contracts. Since February 2004, further cooperation contracts have been agreed with the German states of Hesse, Schleswig-Holstein, and Saarland, as well as with other European states and regions. Successful Beginnings Teacher development is an important building block in the SCE concept. In the last academic year alone, approximately 60 further education courses for teachers were held in Germany, offering training for up to 600 teachers. In January 2005, the Introduction to automation technology project was also started at the Werner-von-Siemens school in Hildesheim. In this project, Siemens A&D is supporting schools by inviting them to one-day training courses throughout the year. The courses offer up to 300 students the opportunity to gain an insight into the functionality, programming, and application of the Logo! logic module. Partner for Europe The teacher training program is also well underway outside of Germany. Since September 2004, eight events have been held in Switzerland in partnership with the SIBP (Swiss Institute for Education Science), providing training for around 80 teachers. In France, a total of nine training courses have been held since the start of the current financial year, at which 126 professors have been brought up to speed with the latest technology. In Austria, a total of 17 seminars are planned for the academic year 2004/2005, to add to the 250 teachers already trained in the previous year. A letter of intent is also scheduled to be signed with the Austrian Federal Ministry for Education, Science, and Culture, regarding the plans of partners of Siemens A&D SCE to hold teacher training courses. In Italy, a new contract has been signed with the Ministry of Culture in collaboration with the regional institute of educational research in Lombardy (I.R.R.E.). Another new contract has been agreed with the Polytechnic University of Milan. The Siemens SCE Teaching the Future project, which was started in 2003, has so far provided training for a total of 818 teachers at 29 training courses. In Spain, two new contracts are soon to be agreed with the education authorities of Navarra and Castilla La Mancha. Together with existing partners in Catalonia, three training centers have been fitted with Siemens educational equipment to the value of 120,000. Approximately 500 teachers across Spain have benefited from the training since the start of the current financial year. Students can see the effects of their own manipulations. Many find the sheer size of the rectifying plant fascinating and it therefore commands a certain retry. All guests were impressed by the high educational standard of the facility, which is comparable to international standards. Partnership for success The TGGS has been offering four-semester international M.Sc. courses since The TGSS was founded in 2001 as a center for industry-oriented academic engineering education, technology development, and economic partnership between Thailand and Germany. Its German partner institution is the Aachen University of Technology (RWTH). Simatic PCS 7 in Switzerland The Cutting Edge of Technology Up-to-date, true-to-life training with the Simatic PCS 7 process control system: Pilot rectification plant at the Zurich University of Applied Sciences Winterthur At the Zurich University of Applied Sciences Winterthur (ZHW), great importance is attached to state-of-the-art and industry-relevant education. For this reason, the university has recently chosen to install the process control system PCS 7 as the control unit for its pilot rectifying plant. Around 150 students are currently registered on the three-year course in biology and biological chemistry at ZHW. Distillation and rectification, or the complete breakdown of fluids into their component elements, is one of the fundamental procedures covered on the course. Using the pilot rectify-
Successful education in Switzerland A Swiss Education Collaboration with Swiss institutes of higher education also plays a major role for Automation & Drives (A&D). Several years ago, as a part of the Siemens Automation Cooperates with Education (SCE) program, a range of projects was initiated with the aim of informing students and teachers alike of the latest developments in automation technology. Since then, strong partnerships have been established at all levels of education, from traditional and technical universities to technical and vocational colleges. International Projects Discover 2/2004 1/ Putting the new training topics to the test Professor Thomas Spielmann spect, explains Professor Thomas Spielmann, lecturer at the ZHW and responsible for the new process control system. It is also hoped that PCS 7 will improve cooperation between the different programs of study: For example, students in mechanical engineering also work with Simatic, which means that these students also come into contact with the rectifying plant as a part of their studies, and thus gain basic skills in using the equipment. The new process control system was put into operation in mid May. Hans Menzi, responsible for SCE at A&D Switzerland, identifies the problem at the heart of the education situation: In practice, it is often the case that graduates are highly-qualified young people, but unfortunately they are not up to date with the latest technologies. The short innovation cycles present educational institutions with a real challenge. To help the Swiss institutions meet this challenge, a few years ago Menzi and his colleagues began to set up targeted projects for more intensive, hands-on communication of the latest knowledge in the area of automation. As is now being demonstrated, they have achieved great success. At all levels In addition to technical education colleges, specialist secondary colleges, and vocational colleges, A&D also supports the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zurich and Lausanne. In collaboration with Professor Dr. A. H. Glattfelder, a laboratory in Zurich has been equipped with the process control system PCS 7 and the process visualization system Simatic WinCC. In Lausanne, A&D organizes an Automation Day for electronics students, with lectures by experts from the industry. At the Zurich University of Applied Sciences in Winterthur (ZHW), with Professor Urs Glauser, A&D provides laboratory equipment, and also offers support for diploma dissertation students. Thanks to Siemens worldwide network, an exchange program has even been set up between the ZHW and the Georgia Institute of Technology (USA). Siemens has also played an important role in the realization of three national Profinet competence centers in Switzerland (ZHW, BFH, SUPS1). Real-world contacts In particular due to the close relationship with practical experience, A&D has also won partners in the Swiss specialist secondary vocational colleges (formerly known as technical colleges). The collaboration with Siemens is also very important for us, explained Thomas Zürcher from the specialist college HFT Biel. The labs were quickly and competently equipped, and we can count on support from A&D at any time. A&D also maintains intensive contact with vocational colleges. At this level in particular, the company demonstrates its experience in continuing and further education for teachers. Despite its status as a private company, Siemens Switzerland has been selected as a partner of the Swiss Institute of Educational Science (SIBP) to organize further education courses for teachers. As a pioneer in teacher development, A&D Switzerland is responsible for the content of the PLC courses and for the choice of speakers, who must be able to demonstrate the requisite industry experience in the area of automation technology.
Discover 2/2004 1/ International Projects Simatic PCS7 and TIA in the USA Education with a World-Class Brand With almost 50,000 students, the University of Florida in Gainesville is one of the largest and best-renowned universities in the US. The Georgia Institute of Technology (GA Tech) in Atlanta, Georgia, also ranks among the top ten universities in the country for research activities. With the implementation of the process control system Simatic PCS 7 and Totally Integrated Automation (TIA), both universities are now setting international benchmarks in education standards. In terms of size alone, the faculty of chemical engineering at the University of Florida is in a class of its own, with over 500 registered students. Every year, around 100 of these students carry out experiments in the Unit Operations Laboratory as a practical component of their chemical engineering course. As a part of its introduction to experimental methods and the basic principles of applied control engineering, the faculty laboratory is equipped with two industrial-size distillation columns and a large dimensioned double evaporation system. Simatic PCS 7 version 6.1 has been in use for some time as a process control platform for the two experimental systems. Practical, industry-relevant learning By using PCS 7, students can experiment with the distillation columns and evaporation system. This enables them to grasp the theoretical principles of mass movement and heat transfer in a practical, industry-oriented, hands-on environment. It is also possible to operate the system from the student residences using the integrated Web navigator. Professor Dr. Oscar D. Crisalle, one of the staff members responsible for purchasing the PCS 7, is impressed with the controls: Simatic PCS 7 really is a world-class system, which is perfectly suited to all the key requirements of an academic laboratory. Good Ticket for Georgia Simatic PCS 7 and TIA are also used in research and teaching at the Georgia Institute of Technology, where researchers in the mechanical engineering faculty are studying the movement characteristics of a crane that can lift loads of up to 10 tons. This research is part of an innovative project to develop algorithms for the elimination of vibrations. In order to study the detrimental effects of vibrations, around 50 students on the System Dynamics und Controls course are working with the system controlled by Simatic. A further 12 students are taking the senior level practical course, which involves research work requiring three months of experiments on the crane. Approximately 15 students on the Advanced Controls course are using the crane to develop and test advanced control algorithms. Staff in Georgia are also enthusiastic about the new controls. The apparatus provided by Siemens has enabled us to equip our crane with the best oscillation control system in the world, explains Professor Dr. William E. Singhose, who has overall responsibility for the project. More information at: Professor Dr. Oscar D. Crisalle and two of his students conducting an experiment at the PCS 7 plant
News Discover 1/ Simple introduction, integrated learning, and flexible application The New SCE Application Center All steps at a glance for fast entry Keeping pace with fast rate of innovation in the industry is no easy feat for teaching staff and vocational trainers who are trying to provide a representative and up-to-date education for their students. From now on, the new SCE Application Center and associated training course for teaching staff will facilitate an introduction to automation technology. Tailor-made introduction Teacher training courses starting in the academic year 2005/2006 The optimal personal introduction for teaching staff is provided by the parallel teacher training course SCE Application Center automation in industry. Prerequisites for this two-day course are basic knowledge of the Windows environment and controls technology with Simatic Step 7. An introduction to the SCE education concept for Simatic S7 is followed by an introduction to the SCE-Application Center, various software tools and learning media for the classroom, as well as the SCE course concept. All this is followed by the practical introduction to automation technology using Simatic telestart. This is consolidated through use of the application sets for Simatic and the modular training documentation, as well as the use of Simit-SCE system simulation together with Simatic S7. The practical application phase includes individual exercises on the following topics: programming the Simatic S7, networking two Simatic S7 units using Profibus DP, operation of a virtual model using Simit SCE (simulation software) and a Simatic S7, and the connection of operating and monitoring devices to Simatic S7. The course concludes with an overview of scenarios for the combination of real and simulated models in the classroom for realistic application. To present automation technology in all its complexity in a simple fashion requires knowledge, didactics, and good technique. The SCE Application Center offers effective support for the teaching of basic principles of automation for careers in industrial electronics. For apprenticeships, the Center enables more specific coverage of individual apprenticeship options and for universities, enables faster access to the complex subject of control and communications technology in automation. Step-by-step, the Application Center guides students through the installation process, demonstrates the interaction between the most diverse of automation components, and provides a quickly accessible introduction into the complex world of automation technology. Practical exercises are used to demonstrate subjects such as action chains, hard-wired and stored-program signal processing, and logical basic connections in the context of a complete system. The integrated Simit simulation models can then be used to test that the solutions are functioning correctly. Integrated components The integrated components of the innovative SCE Application Center Set include practical exercises, individually assembled laboratory kits, the PLC basic course (step-by-step), and introductory examples using the Simatic telestart CD-ROM, e-learning, teacher training, right through to specifically designed software and hardware trainer packages. The Simatic telestart CD alone contains more than 50 minutes of interactive videos and more than 300 pages covering the basics of automation technology. All training components are fully integrated with each other and are the result of many years experience in collaboration with teachers and culture ministries. For optimal application planning, the SCE Application Center is also available as a laboratory version. The Application Center and the Application Center sets will become available in Q
PROCESS FIELD BUS Discover 1/ News Consultant engineer day: The future of automation Two Days of Technology Whatever the level of higher education or training institute SCE can provide optimal learning support for all educational levels. A recent example of a successful teacher development event was the consultant engineer day held in Fall 2004 under the motto The Future of Automation. In September 2004, this group, together with other dedicated teaching staff, participated in the consultant engineer day on the Future of Automation organized by SCE. The program for the first day included three presentations on Profinet, Simit, and the SCE Application Center. As all participants were involved in providing basic education on the Simatic S7, Profibus, and operating and monitoring systems, all were interested in finding out where and how the controls are produced. Consultant engineers gathered information on the future of automation Those with up-to-date knowledge are in a better position to discuss and advise in matters of education. An example of this is the new classification of careers in electronics and metal processing, and how this is represented in the curriculum. One group of consultant engineers in this area from the German state of Lower Saxony has recently become fully equipped to face this task. Profinet open Industrial Ethernet standard in education Innovation in Practice HMI Controller Security Safety Switching In the world of automation, Profinet is advancing rapidly. But can education keep pace with innovation? From the point of view of SCE, this should be no problem. With its tailormade laboratory equipment, state-ofthe-art teacher training, and practical textbooks, Siemens offers the perfect education solution for Profinet, as well as other technologies. Profinet is the first open and truly independent Industrial Ethernet standard that fulfills all the requirements for using Ethernet at all levels and in all automation applications. Profinet is based on Industrial Ethernet, uses TCP/IP and IT standards, is real-time capable, and enables seamless integration of fieldbus systems. It therefore completely encompasses the whole spectrum of communication throughout the world of automation. Profinet received a clear seal of approval in Fall 2004 from AIDA, an association of automotive manufacturers. Following the decision of German car manufacturers Audi AG, Volkswagen AG, BMW AG, and Daimler Chrysler to use Profinet in the future with integrated personal security, Profinet has established itself as the Industrial Ethernet standard on the market. Profinet for beginners To keep abreast of this new trend in industrial communication, SCE offers various options for laboratory equipment. The basic variant consists of a Simatic ET 200S distributed I/O with an IM PN interface module, which features a Profinet interface. The central unit is the CPU PN/DP (see page 10). Project planning is performed as before using Step 7 Version 5.3 SP2. As an alternative to the CPU, the I/O can also be connected using the Proxy Motion Control & Drives Others Fieldbus Systems Robotics Safety Distributed Systems HMI Sensors communication software Softnet PN IO. Using the new CP, which will be available from Q3, it will then be possible to connect existing S7-300s to Profinet networks. From the start of the new academic year, SCE will be offering teacher training on the subject of Profinet. IE/PB Link Distributed Systems Wireless
Process automation in vocational training The Brewing Technology of Tomorrow News Discover 1/ IT and computers are exerting an influence on even the most traditional of professions. Evidence of this development is visible in the small-scale fermenting vessel at the vocational school for brewing in Bremen, which is equipped with A&D components. Since October 2004, the institute has also begun to teach basic principles of automation. October 28, 2004: in the presence of sponsors Interbrew, Beck & Co., and Siemens A&D and I&S, the electronically controlled fermenting vessel was ceremonially presented to the training center Am Rübekamp in Bremen. The Bremen institute has been educating new generations of brewers from across five states in North Germany since apprentices are currently learning the historical and tra- ditional trade. As the new fermenting vessel with A&D components shows, automation technology has also infiltrated this industry. In addition to the new vessel, the school has also been running an automation system controlled by Simatic S7-400 with integrated brewery software since Fall In the second and third years of the course, basic programming skills with Step 7 are on the timetable alongside the basic principles of automation. A joyful moment: the arrival of the fermenting vessel The text book Automation with PLC Theory and Practice by Wellenreuther, Zastrow, is due to be released in September 2005 (ISBN ) The Siemens text book Automating with PROFINET Industrial communication based on Industrial Ethernet by Pigan and Metter, is also scheduled for publication in September 2005 (ISBN ) Detailed information on Profinet is available in the book The Rapid Way to PROFINet published by Profibus International. 10 Discover 1/ Products CPUs in teaching and research A CPU for All Occasions In France and Germany, CPUs from the Simatic S7-300 product range are also gaining in popularity in the world of higher education. Given their versatile capabilities, this comes as no surprise. The safety professional: CPU 315F-2 DP At the new European Competence Center for Safety Technology at ENSAM University in Metz, France, Simatic S7-300F has already become a fixed variable. At level 3 of the Safety Integrated security concept, alongside S7-400F, this CPU is realized as a standard control with integrated safety function. If an error occurs, safe Simatic controls are used to ensure the application is flexibly transferred into or kept in a safe mode. For this purpose, the fail-safe CPU 315F-2 DP features comprehensive autonomous testing and self-diagnosis functions. It also offers functions such as the processing of standard and fault-tolerant programs on one CPU, fail-safe slave-to-slave communication between intelligent DP slaves, as well as the usual diagnosis and alarm functions of the standard Simatic S7-CPU. All programming is performed using step 7 in the standard languages LAD and FBD. The software package S7 Distributed Safety supports the failsafe I/Os for parameterization and supports programming with readymade certified modules. Fit for PROFINET: CPU PN/DP A CPU PN/DP is currently being used in the University of Duisburg-Essen (Germany). Profinet is one of the technologies being studied as part of an experiment on networked systems for control and error diagnosis. The study is using Profinet communication between an ET 200 and S7-315 PN. The CPU enables the connection of I/O and field devices via Profinet, such as the distributed I/O Simatic ET 200S with Profinet interface connection. The additional integrated Profibus interface can also be used to connect field devices as before and the Profinet interface is then used for communication at cell level. The Profinet CPU can be programmed using a central programming device or PC via Industrial Ethernet with Step 7. The necessary driver is included in Step 7. The devices of the underlying Profibus can also be accessed from here without the need to reconnect the programming device. The highlights of the CPU include integrated interfaces, which prevent the need for additional modules. The CPU also features continuous communica- tion from control level to field level, an application option as a gateway from Profinet/Ethernet to Profibus, and flexible maintenance using the innovative Micro Memory Card. Scalable for Motion Control: CPU 315T At the University of Wuppertal (Germany), the automation of a guideway grinding machine using a CPU 317T is currently the subject of a dissertation in the faculty of Electronics, rmation and Media Technology. The CPU 315T combines the Simatic standard CPU and the high-performance PLCopen- certified Motion Control functions: Fast, deterministic controller cycles enable the high performance control of up to eight axes in isochronous mode. Like the CPU 317T, the CPU 315T also possesses a fast local digital I/O device and two Profibus interfaces. The underlying technology structure of the control includes 32 technology objects. These are composed of a maximum of eight axes, 16 cams, 16 output cams, and eight measuring probes and external sensors. A range of features make the CPU interesting for education: simplified and fast engineering through the integration of technology and motion control in Step 7, easy-to-understand motion functions based on the international standard PLCopen, the initial operation tool axis control panel for moving the axes without the S7 program, the trace tool for continual recording or real-time monitoring of target and actual values, as well as the fast Fourier transformation for analysis of the frequency spectrum.
