NCAA Group Insurance Programs NCAA_SportsBroch13_FC.indd 1 12/17/12 7:02:50 PM
The NCAA Group Basic Accident Medical Program was introduced in the Fall of 2006 to provide Basic Accident coverage for participating NCAA Institutions. Seven institutions participated in that inaugural year on simply a promise - a promise of quality coverage and services with insurance industry leaders under the direction of the NCAA. Today, the Program is over one hundred and forty members strong and growing. By combining four key pillars for success (insurance, cost containment, services and risk management), the NCAA Group Insurance Programs bridge the gap between risk management and athletics. When fully implemented, this program empowers institutions to control costs and reduce expenses. Athletic Trainers and claims coordinators have reported that the NCAA Online Risk Manager reduces administration and saves as much as 50% of time spent managing claims. 3 Top 10 Reasons to Consider the NCAA Group Insurance Programs 1. The most efficient, online intercollegiate sports insurance claims management system available in the marketplace. 2. NCAA catastrophic deductible is $75,000 for all NCAA Group Insurance Program participants. All other institutions catastrophic deductible is $90, Optional primary accident coverage for uninsured student-athletes. 4. Customized NCAA provider networks offering access to over 150 national, regional and local networks. 5. Superior claims processing that includes both automated and personal service. 6. Seamless claims management from optional primary plan to basic accident coverage to NCAA catastrophic medical coverage. 7. Ability to report incidents directly from electronic injury tracking systems. 8. NCAA s commitment to provide resources and oversight to ensure the Program s success for its participants. 9. Risk management consulting provided at no additional cost. 10. Program participants actively involved to help shape the future of the NCAA Group Insurance Programs and services provided. Now is the time to join the 140+ NCAA institutions that are currently benefiting from the NCAA Insurance Programs! NCAA_SportsBroch13_FC.indd /17/12 7:02:54 PM
Insurance Features NCAA approved formula utilized to ensure a consistent pricing approach Medical maximum to meet NCAA Catastrophic deductible Two-year benefit period Higher limits of Accidental Death & Dismemberment coverage available Master policy negotiated with NCAA oversight Optional primary accident coverage for uninsured studentathletes Fully-insured and Aggregate Deductible plans available NCAA Catastrophic Deductible Benefit for Program Participants: The NCAA catastrophic program deductible has increased from $75,000 to $90,000. However Mutual of Omaha Insurance Company, the insurer for both the NCAA Basic Accident and NCAA Catastrophic insurance programs, has agreed to keep all Program participants catastrophic deductible at $75,000. This provides NCAA Program participants with reduced exposure and further protection against their basic accident claims results. Optional Primary Accident Plan: The NCAA Program offers an optional primary accident insurance plan from Mutual of Omaha Insurance Company to assist those institutions that have implemented (or would like to implement) the best practice of requiring student-athletes to have other insurance to control costs. This plan is available exclusively to those NCAA institutions participating in the NCAA Group Insurance Programs. NCAA_SportsBroch13_FC.indd /17/12 7:02:55 PM
Service Features Claims processing provided by Mutual of Omaha Insurance Company with 40+ years of accident medical experience Seamless claims management from basic accident coverage to NCAA catastrophic medical coverage Online incident (claims) reporting 24 hours a day Centralized web-based program providing 24-hour access to policy, provider, claims and risk management information Access cards and referral process to maximize claim discounts Multiple customized claim reports available online Free deductible administration available to institutions with deductibles of $500 or less NCAA Online Risk Manager The NCAA Online Risk Manager is the only centralized web-based program that provides participants with the ability to: Submit claims View claim status Review loss reports Locate in-network providers Access policy wording Purchase primary accident coverage Track all correspondence related to a claim Obtain risk management information Athletic Trainers and claims coordinators have reported that the NCAA Online Risk Manager reduces administration and saves as much as 50% of time spent managing claims. The electronic diary function allows institutions to be completely paperless if they so choose. NCAA_SportsBroch13_FC.indd /17/12 7:02:56 PM
Cost Containment Features NCAA negotiated limits on expenses (at or below industry standards) Limitations on program partner income Commitment of NCAA resources NCAA Commitment: The NCAA has committed and will continue to commit its resources to ensure the success of the NCAA Program and its participants. No other basic insurance program has the management involvement of the NCAA to ensure fairness and fiscal accountability for its members. Risk Management Features Risk management consulting provided at no additional cost Best Practices tools and information designed to curb medical expenses Customized provider networks to maximize discounts Assistance in negotiating direct provider discounts Repricing and Provider Discount Services: Customized NCAA provider networks offer access to over 150 national, regional and local networks; there is also the option to add specific non-network providers at the institution s request. A computer generated referral letter from the NCAA Online Risk Manager provides greater savings above the average program discount. Risk Management Consulting: The NCAA and its partners have developed Best Practices to assist member institutions in maximizing opportunities to control and reduce medical expenses related to athletics injuries. This service is provided free of charge either through the NCAA Online Risk Manager or through one of the Program Partners. NCAA_SportsBroch13_FC.indd /17/12 7:02:59 PM
