20 GUIDELINES FOR ADDRESSING JUDGES It is important that you correctly address your cover letter and envelope, using the proper titles, spellings and salutation lines. In the address portion of the letter and on the envelope, all judges should be referred to as The Honorable followed by the full name, court in which the judge sits, and address. For instance, The Honorable (full name) United State District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan 231 W. Lafayette Blvd. Detroit, MI The salutation consists of Dear followed by the appropriate title (Judge) and the last name.
