Appendix 5 Guidelines to create Building Information Modelling (BIM) models for AAP, P1, SOM & SPC Preparation for Architectural Assessment Panel(AAP) Submission (Same details requirements on Revit models for P1, SOM & SPC Submission) 1. Procedures for site model creation 1.1 Start new project with standard template Set the level of the project Fig.1.1 Set the base level of the site Set other levels for main structures (e.g. two domestic block sit on different levels) 1.2 Import base plan (site layout/setting plan) as reference Set Origin as the project co-ordinate (in AutoCAD) Fig Page 54
1.2.2 Clean-up the CAD file (dwg) before import to Revit Delete all areafill (i.e. solid pattern, hatching etc.) Delete unnecessary annotation and geometry Purge the CAD file If you found that some blocks were not in the original position after import in Revit, explored those blocks before import Import CAD file (dwg) as base plan Setting for plan location Fig Fig Page 55
Suggestion for the setting:- Import the CADD file as link Import Units set to millimetre Positioning set to Auto Origin to Origin If you checked the Current view only, that means the base plan will display in the plan view only and not in 3D views or elevations CAUTION: If the site is far away from the Origin or the site coverage is large, the following warning would be encountered. Fig Check the import plan in the right position Fig Page 56
1.3 Create toposurface Import survey data Refer to Guideline for handling 3D spartial data from LandsD Create toposurface by survey point/base plan Create the toposurface by selecting/input the survey point/level point Fig a Fig b Page 57
1.4 Create Pad to form building platform Fig c Fig. 1.4 Summary Index Procedures for site model creation Reference 1.1 Start new project with standard template Fig. 1.1 (path:- Z:\BIM\Standard Template\ Architectural.rte) 1.2 Import base plan (site layout/setting plan) as reference Fig.1.2.1, 1.2.3, 1.2.4, 1.2.5, Import survey data to create toposurface Fig a, b, c 1.4 Create Pad to form building platform Fig Procedures for Flat Mix (typical floor plan) model creation 2.1 Start new project with standard template (refer to 1.1) 2.2 Create Flat Mix model Create reference line or grid line for setting out Fig Page 58
2.2.2 Import standard modular flats to create the flat mix Import the standard modular flats from HA Library (path: z:\bim\ha Library \Grouped Model\ Standard Modular Flats) Fig a Fig b Page 59
Compose modular flats to create flat mix floor plan Fig Tips for compose modular flats Import modular flat as link Use rotate, move, mirror and copy functions to compose the modular flats Group function is not recommended for composing modular flats, since it consume a lot of resource) Page 60
2.2.3 Create common area (i.e. lift core, corridor, staircase & service room etc.) to complete the typical floor plan Fig Tips for create common area Create construction line Import Grouped Model as link (e.g. staircase, loft core, service rooms etc.) If no suitable Grouped Model, create the component in field Export the plan view as the typical floor plan for flats mixing Page 61
Summary Index Procedures for site model creation 2.1 Start new project with standard template (path:- Z:\BIM\Standard Template\ Architectural.rte) 2.2 Create Flat Mix model and export the plan view as the typical floor plan for flats mixing submission Reference Fig. 1.1 Fig , a, b Fig , Procedures for Massing of blocks creation 3.1 Export the typical floor models to 2D CAD files, for more easy to handle in Revit. Uncheck the xref views on sheets to create single CAD file. If checked, the linked files in Revit model will created as Xreference. Fig. 3.1 Page 62
3.2 Import the typical floor plan and locate in right position. Fig. 3.2 Page 63
3.3 Trace the outline of the building and create the Massing Trace the outline of the building Create Mass Create all buildings in the project Fig. 3.3 Page 64
3.4 Apply colour to the Mass the Edit the Materials in Element Properties of Mass 1. Select material or duplicate material to create a new material colour 2. Adjust the Transparency if necessary 3. Apply Surface Pattern if necessary Fig. 3.4 If required to apply different colour to the surface of Mass, use Paint function (e.g. Green R f) Page 65
Tips for creating Mass Give meaningful name to the mass Create mass as Solid Extrustion (most common), if for special shape, you might need to create mass by other forms Change the material in element properties to assign colour to the mass Use Paint function to apply colour to individual surface of the mass Set Shading with Edges on 3.5 Export 3D views and elevations for submission Fig. 3.5 Page 66
Summary Index Procedures for site model creation Reference 3.1 Export the typical floor models to 2D CAD files Fig Import the typical floor plan as reference Fig Trace the outline of the building and create the Massing Fig Apply colour to the Mass Fig Export 3D views and elevations for submission Fig. 3.5 Page 67
Appendix 6 Preparation for Project Design Review Committee (P2) Submission (Same details requirements on Revit models for BC, DDRP1 & DDRP2 Submission) 1. Procedures for site model creation 1.1 Method 1:- Retrieve the site model from previous submission (i.e. AAP, P1, SOM or SPC). 1.2 Method 2:- Create the site model from zero. Refer to Part 1 of Guidelines for creating BIM models for AAP, P1,SOM & SPC submission 2. Procedures for Flat Mix (typical floor plan) model creation 2.1 For P2 & BC Submission:- Retrieve the typical floor plan (LD2 modular flats) from previous submission (i.e. AAP, P1, SOM or SPC). 2.2 For DDRP1 & DDRP2 Submission: Retrieve the typical floor plan (LD2 modular flats) from previous submission; replace the modular flats with LD3 modular flats models Input details to common areas. 3. Procedures for creating Ground Floor, First Floor and Roof models plan 3.1 Method 1:- If you have the CADD files (i.e. AutoCAD files) of the floor plans, insert the floor to Revit and base on the CADD drawing to create the model. 3.2 Method 2:- If you do not have any CADD files of the floor plans, start with standard template in Revit, create the model in Revit directly. Tips:- When creating each floor of building model, they should use the same co-ordinate and level system, and then the model will be in right position when linked together. 4. Procedures for building blocks creation (LD2) 4.1 For elevations creation:- Retrieve the typical floor plan (LD2 modular flats) from previous submission; replace the modular flats with LD1 modular flats models. 4.2 For elevations creation:- Retrieve the typical floor plan (LD2 modular flats) from previous submission. 4.3 For building block creation:- Page 68
To compose the Ground Floor model, First floor model, Typical Floor model (LD1 modular flats for elevations creation and LD2 modular flats for section creation) and Roof model to form the building block Start a new model with standard temple Create Levels for the building block Fig Import Revit models Fig Page 69
Tips:- For Positioning of the import model, it depended on the setting when you creating the model. Auto - Center to Center & Auto - Origin to Origin are the most common setting for single block. When import the building block to site base model, we should use Auto By Shared Coordinates Import the Ground Floor + First Floor + Typical Floor (LD1 modular flats for elevations) or Typical Floor (LD2 modular flats for sections) + Roof to form the building block Fig a Ground Floor Fig b Ground Floor + First Floor Page 70
Fig c Ground Floor + First Floor + Typical Floor Fig d Ground Floor + First Floor + Typical Floor + Roof Page 71

5. Import the building blocks model to site base model to create the project model Fig. 5a Site Base + Carport + External work Fig. 5b Site Base + Carport + External work + One Domestic Block Page 73
Fig. 5c Site Base + Carport + External work + Two Domestic Blocks Fig. 5d Site Sectional Elevation A Page 74
Fig. 5e Site Sectional Elevation B Tips:- i) ii) iii) iv) Simply the models to minimum When import huge model (e.g. the domestic block) into the site model, you might need to unload other link files temporary, and then reload afterward. It can decrease the re-generation time and speed-up the file loading. Delete all necessary views, elevations and sections. Since each view need resource to re-generate. Be patient. 6. Other Details For complex details, please draw in AutoCAD (e.g. aluminium window details, details of expansion joints etc.). If you draw everything in the Revit project models. The application will be corrupted. Page 75
