2 Introduction The College of Social Work at Florida State University (FSU) is pleased to offer a list of our faculty s peer reviewed articles for the past five years. Consistent with the College s commitment to excellence in teaching and service, our faculty members are actively engaged in research that matters in clinical practice, social policy, and administration. Our research is being conducted on local, state, national, and international levels. Built upon the art and science of social work with a strong creative, disciplined, and ethical foundation, our faculty are addressing critical contemporary matters including interpersonal violence, HIV/AIDS, poverty, problems affecting the aged, child neglect and abuse, juvenile and adult offenders, substance abuse, mental health problems, homelessness, medical and public health problems, and community building. The College of Social Work strives to make a difference in the lives of individuals, families, groups, and communities. We continue to work with students at all levels in producing research that maintains our commitment to being both student and research-centered. The commitment to high-quality research is supported by our Institute for Social Work Research, the Institute for Family Violence Studies, and the newly established Trinity Institute for Addictions. Our faculty members continue to be successful in securing grants to support their research and the students involved in various projects. Our faculty have also served to advance scholarship through their service on national and international editorial boards. The College of Social Work continues to work on community partnerships (including many of our alumni) to promote research that will inform prevention, intervention, administration, education, and social policy-making. I am confident that if we join forces with other programs in social work as well as engage in interdisciplinary research, our journey of discovery, innovation, and validation will make a difference for generations as we serve the most vulnerable members of our society. This listing of research activities is one contribution toward advancing a dialogue within and beyond our profession. Nicholas F. Mazza, Ph.D. Dean and Patricia V. Vance Professor of Social Work Editor, Journal of Poetry Therapy ( FL Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Psychologist, M&F Therapist
