If you have followed the regular programme, this decision is straightforward, but deviations are possible. To apply for acceptance of exceptions to the regular programme, a request should be submitted to the Board of Examinors. It may be wise to consult the Academic counsellor in advance. Students, instructors and staff use blackboard for almost all communication for their courses. There is a blackboard page for every course, but also for the organisation master of Applied Physics. Contact the programme coordinator if you do not have access to the Applied Physics blackboard organisation. For individual timetables see My Timetable in the Blackboard tab MyStudentinfo. Regulations The regulations handle all possible issues concerning education and examinations. All rights and obligations of both students and teachers are explained in detail. The Teaching & Examination Regulations and the Implementation Regulations are established by the Board of Studies. The Board of Examiners establishes the Rules and Guidelines regarding examinations. Please look at the web page for an overview and the archive of all regulations. In the Rules and Guidelines you will find the pass/fail regulations, the meaning of the marks, and the conditions for the predicate with distinction. 4 5

4 Register for examinations blackboard.tudelft.nl > Osiris Written examinations require registration! You have to register using Osiris which can be found on blackboard. Students are required to register for written examinations in the examination registration system no later than 14 calendar days (not working days) before the exam. Prior to a third (or subsequent) examination attempt the instructor is allowed to oblige the student to consult the instructor in order to obtain educational advice and help for thorough preparation. Results and progress blackboard.tudelft.nl > Osiris Using your Net-ID, Osiris provides you with results for examinations and an overview of your academic progress. If this overview is not correct, please inform the administration, osa-tnw@tudelft.nl. Master Thesis project Please look at the thesis project flowchart when you are about to start a thesis project, or via blackboard. TU Delft Library TU Delft has an extended library where you can borrow books. The website also gives access to many search portals, electronic journals etcetera. During your course, you will find that the Virtual Knowledge Centre (VKC) of your programme will come in very useful i.e. physics The VKC is the ideal place to start when looking for information in your field, as it provides virtually all knowledge in your field. Learn more about other VKC at vkc.library.tudelft.nl. Core programme and specialisations The Applied Physics programme is a two-year master programme and comprises 120 EC. The programme has a core-specialisation structure. Within this structure, there is a choice of research tracks: Bio-Nanoscience (BN) Imaging Systems and Technology (IST) Quantum Nanoscience (QN) Radiation, Radionuclides and Reactors (R3) Transport Phenomena and Fluid Flow (TPFF) The core programme comprises 90 EC and has the same structure for all tracks and students:..12 EC of compulsory modules: Mathematical Methods for Physics (9EC) and Ethics and Engineering (3EC). 12 EC of G-list (General) modules: choose two (out of four) advanced physics courses...12 EC of D-list (Departmental/track) modules. At least one of those should be chosen from the department /track where you do your thesis project...6 EC thesis related elective(s) from either the G-, D-, R- or M-lists. R stands for Research, M for Math. Your thesis supervisor should confirm your choice as valuable for the completion of the project...master s Thesis Work: to a total of 48 EC (AP3901) in a research section of one of the physics Departments or affiliated groups: BN track Bionanoscience department; IST track Imaging Science and Technology department, or Centre for Systems and Control (3mE); QN track Quantum Nanoscience department, or the Opto-electronic Materials section (ChemE); R3 track Radiation, Radionuclides & Reactors department; TPFF track Chemical Engineering department, Fluid Mechanics section (3mE), or Clouds and Climate group (CiTG). The prior approval of the Board of Examiners should be obtained if the thesis work is performed outside the mentioned departments or affiliated groups. The Board of Examiners may then appoint a supervisor from one of the physics departments. Courses that are part of the student s bachelor programme cannot be part of the master programme. Otte Special programmes Special programmes, implying restrictions on the core programme, within Applied Physics are:..the Erasmus Mundus programme Optics in Science and Technology (OpSciTech): this programme consists of one year spent at TU Delft and one year spent at one of the partner universities, Friedrich Schiller University Jena (Germany), Université Paris-Sud 11/Institut d Optique Graduate School (Paris, France), Warsaw University of Technology (Poland) and Imperial College London (United Kingdom), dr. F. Bociort..Casimir pre-phd programme: this programme, which is linked to the BN and QN tracks and the Casimir specialisation, focuses on educating students for a PhD position, dr. A.F. Otte..Excellence track on Fluid and Solid Mechanics. This programme, linked to the TPFF track, focuses on educating excellent students for a PhD position. It fits within the Mechanical-, Aerospace- and Civil Engineering en Applied Physics master programmes. The programme provides master students a chance to write a PhDproject proposal at the end of the MSc phase and acquire funding for it. The programme is focuses on the central role of Fluids and Solids in Engineering. Programme additions..honours track: this is an individual programme of about 30 EC on top of the full Applied Physics programme, which contains a specially developed 5 EC course for all TU Delft honours track students. The full Applied Physics programme including the additional honours track should be completed within 2 years. Prior approval of the course director is needed..double degree programme Applied Physics Management of Technology: this is a three year programme of the Faculties of Applied Sciences and Technology, Policy and Management. Admission to this programme is restricted. For information contact the academic counsellor. The latter are denoted Interdepartmental. The student must choose at least one module that belongs to the department where he or she will do the final project.
