4 Auditions There are four different positions available in the show - Children, Singers, Dancers, Ensemble. Children Those aged 15 and under as at 1 st February 2017 may audition as children. Children do not need to prepare a song for the audition. The children s audition will consist of group dancing and acting exercises. The dancing will be mainly hip hop and jazz for the audition and for the show. Parents will not be permitted in the audition room. We are looking to cast children Adults Those aged 13 and over as at 1 st February 2017 may audition as adults. Adults may audition for a singing role, as ensemble, or as a dancer. Those auditioning for a singing role or ensemble must attend an individual audition. Those auditioning as dancers must attend the group dance audition. Singers do not need to attend the dance audition, and dancers do not need to attend the singing auditions, but you may wish to attend both if you would like to be considered for both. Adults Singers or Ensemble Please prepare a song to sing preferably a rock song or something from a rock musical. You may choose to sing a song from Jesus Christ Superstar, but we would prefer some variety! Those auditioning for the roles of Jesus and Judas will also need to prepare a set piece from the show. Bring your own piano sheet music in your preferred key in either a folder or neatly taped for the accompanist. No backing tracks will be accepted. Make sure that the song you have chosen is one that you are confident with and shows you off, as we may workshop the piece with you. We will be casting 19 singers We are looking to cast about 20 ensemble members Adults - Dancers Please wear comfortable clothing and arrive warm. The dance audition will consist of a short warm up, some corner work and then choreography. You will be taught the chorey, given the chance to work on it in groups and then have the opportunity to perform it a couple of times. The choreography will be in the style of music theatre and jazz. The choreography for the show will mostly be jazz. We are looking to cast 6-10 dancers All auditions will be filmed for casting purposes. All footage will be destroyed at the end of the process. Please arrive at least 15mins before your audition to complete paperwork and to warm up. If you cannot make an audition time, please contact Kate Smith or Jessica Lovelace and alternate arrangements will be made.

Please prepare a song of your own choosing and the required section of Heaven on Their Minds Male. Come on, you all know who Jesus is Please prepare a song of your own choosing and the required section of Gethsemene Female. Your standard romantic female lead. Any gender. Governor of Judea. Tenor Tenor Mezzo Baritenor CAIAPHAS Male. The main antagonist a high priest. He got that super bass. Bass ANNAS Any gender. Caiaphas right hand man (or woman) and fellow priest. Counter- tenor PETER Any gender. One of Jesus twelve apostles. Sings Could We Start Again Please with Mary and Peter s Denial Baritone SIMON Any gender. One of Jesus twelve apostles. Sings Simon Zealotes Tenor HEROD Any gender. A comedy role. Only appears in the show for one scene ( King Herod s Song ) will not be doubling up as ensemble. Tenor 10 x FEATURED ENSEMBLE Singers with microphones who make up the bulk of the ensemble numbers as apostles and priests. These singers will have a small number of solo lines. All

6 How to book an audition To book an audition slot, go to: and click Audition Information and follow the instructions. Important: When booking an audition time online, please include the role you are auditioning for in the Comments \ield. If you would like to audition for more than one role list them in order of preference. If you are unable to get a spot please info@bmms.org.au and we will be in contact with you if another time becomes available. Where to find audition materials Set pieces for Jesus and Judas are available at Those auditioning for the role of Jesus will be required to sing an excerpt from Gethsemane and those auditioning for Judas will be required to sing an excerpt from Heaven on Their Minds. Those auditioning for any other singing role will be required to sing a song of their own choosing. Those attending the children s and dance auditions do not need to prepare anything, but should arrive wearing comfortable clothes and bring bottled water. When you arrive for your audition you will be given an audition form to \ill out that asks for your basic details and a short list of your performance experience and/or training. If you are auditioning for multiple positions (ie; dancer and singer, children s cast and adult singer) you will need to \ill out two forms.

8 Rehearsals and Commitment It is the expectation of both the production team and the BMMS committee that everyone involved in this production will be available from the date of their casting through until 4 th June To ensure that Jesus Christ Superstar is a production of the highest quality and in fairness to all involved it is essential that all cast members are available for all scheduled rehearsals. Everyone s time is valuable and it is vital that important rehearsal time is not wasted by the absence of required cast members. All known absences at the time of the auditions must be recorded on the audition form. Missing rehearsals without notice may result in cast members forfeiting their place in the cast. A prerequisite for all cast members is that they need to sign a cast contract with the production team and committee of Blue Mountains Musical Society confirming your agreement with the conditions of being cast in this production. Assistant Director Applications are now open for the position of assistant director. The assistant director is primarily a learning position. Most of your time will be spent observing the process from the point of view of the director, and taking notes. It s a great opportunity to gain an understanding of the role of the director in amateur theatre, and could be used as a stepping-stone into a production role in the future.
