1 Government of Western Australia Department of Health Child and Adolescent Health Service Child and Adolescent Community Health OCCUPATIONAL THERAPISTS IN PRIVATE PRACTICE WORKING WITH CHILDREN Occupational Therapists provide assessment and therapy for children who are experiencing difficulties in their development and learning. The areas Occupational Therapists may assess include play skills, self care skills, feeding skills, sensory processing, gross motor skills, fine motor skills, visualmotor coordination, visual perception, handwriting, social skills and self-esteem. Occupational Therapists may specialise in one of the above outlined areas. When choosing a private clinician, it may be helpful to ask some of the following questions: What is your area of specialty? What age group do you usually see? What is your appointment availability? Where will the service be provided; home, school, clinic? What programs are offered? Is it on a group or individual basis? Will you provide me with a written report? What will the appointment cost? Do you bulk bill? Are you registered with Medicare/my private health insurer? Can you tell me how much the Medicare/private health rebate is?
