1 Wonderful Words of Life John 6: "It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life. 64 "But there are some of you who do not believe." For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were who did not believe, and who would betray Him. 65 And He said, "Therefore I have said to you that no one can come to Me unless it has been granted to him by My Father." 66 From that time many of His disciples went back and walked with Him no more. 67 Then Jesus said to the twelve, "Do you also want to go away?" 68 But Simon Peter answered Him, "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. 69 "Also we have come to believe and know that You are the Christ, the Son of the living God. (John 6:63-69 NKJ) Sing them over again to me, wonderful words of life, Let me more of their beauty see, wonderful words of life; Words of life and beauty teach me faith and duty. Beautiful words, wonderful words, wonderful words of life, Beautiful words, wonderful words, wonderful words of life. Christ, the Blessed One, gives to all wonderful words of life; Sinner, list to the loving call, wonderful words of life; All so freely given, wooing us to heaven. Sweetly echo the Gospel call, wonderful words of life; Offer pardon and peace to all, wonderful words of life; Jesus, only Savior, sanctify us forever.

2 In our hymnal, this hymn has written under it, John 6:68 68 But Simon Peter answered Him, "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. (John 6:68 NKJ) Peter sometimes put his foot in his mouth, but with what he said recorded in John 6:68-69, he hit a spiritual homerun! Let us consider tonight, the Wonderful Words of Life! I. These Wonderful Words are under (or NOT) appreciated! 60 Therefore many of His disciples, when they heard this, said, "This is a hard saying; who can understand it?" 61 When Jesus knew in Himself that His disciples complained about this, He said to them, "Does this offend you? 62 "What then if you should see the Son of Man ascend where He was before? 63 "It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life. 64 "But there are some of you who do not believe." For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were who did not believe, and who would betray Him. 65 And He said, "Therefore I have said to you that no one can come to Me unless it has been granted to him by My Father." 66 From that time many of His disciples went back and walked with Him no more. (John 6:60-66 NKJ) Jesus had fed the five thousand and they wanted MORE! He started telling them He was (and He is) the Bread of LIFE! Of course He meant this spiritually, He tells us in verse : The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life. Yet, some were complaining, actions speak louder than words put your money where your mouth is they wanted MORE, physical food, not spiritual food! Jesus had already told Satan 4 But He answered and said, "It is written, `Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.'" (Matthew 4:4 NKJ)

3 1. The ungodly do not understand or desire these WORDS at all." 66 From that time many of His disciples went back and walked with Him no more. (John 6:60-66 NKJ) 13 These things we also speak, not in words which man's wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual. 14 But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. (1Corinthians 2:13-14 NKJ) 18 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, (1Corinthians 1:18 NKJ) 2. Yet, often even believers under appreciate God s Word! A. We under appreciate its power to SAVE 18 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. (1Corinthains 1:18 NKJ) 17 So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. (Romans 10:17 NKJ) We show this lack of faith when we think the Gospel needs to be augmented by entertainment and worldly amusements! This is true, Even if we do not use these B. We under appreciate its power to change, save, sanctify us 17 "Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth. (John 17:17 NKJ) We have great, sinful depravity, Romans 7, but God s Word can help us overcome it Psalm 119:11 11 Your word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You! (Psalm 119:11 NKJ)

The Wonderful Words of Life are sing-able Wonderful 18 And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit, 19 speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord, (Ephesians 5:18-19 NKJ) 129 PE. Your testimonies are wonderful; Therefore my soul keeps them. 130 The entrance of Your words gives light; It gives understanding to the simple. 131 I opened my mouth and panted, For I longed for Your commandments. 132 Look upon me and be merciful 133 to me, As Your custom is toward those who love Your name. Direct my steps by Your word, And let no iniquity have dominion over me. 134 Redeem me from the oppression of man, That I may keep Your precepts. 135 Make Your face shine upon Your servant, And teach me Your statutes. 136 Rivers of water run down from my eyes, because men do not keep Your law. (Psalm 119: NKJ) 1. Psalm 119, the longest Psalm is a Psalm (song) about God s Word! We should sing about it! 2. They (the Wonderful Words) are SOUL Keep-able --- songs can help us do that! Of course as Peter and the song says, they are the Words of eternal LIFE Sing them over again to me, wonderful words of life 68 But Simon Peter answered Him, "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. (John 6:68 NKJ) III. These Wonderful Words, focus on THE Wonderful WORD, our Lord Jesus Christ NKJ John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. (John 1:1-2 NKJ)

5 14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. (John 1:14 NKJ) Christ, the Blessed One, gives to all wonderful words of life; Sinner, list to the loving call, wonderful words of life; All so freely given, wooing us to heaven. From its beginning to end, God s Word points us to Christ 37 "And the Father Himself, who sent Me, has testified of Me. You have neither heard His voice at any time, nor seen His form. 38 "But you do not have His word abiding in you, because whom He sent, Him you do not believe. 39 "You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me. (John 5:37-39 NKJ) 11 Now I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse. And He who sat on him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war. 12 His eyes were like a flame of fire, and on His head were many crowns.
