The degree is a single cycle course of study which foresees a total of 300 ECTS credits, divided into 60 credits per academic year. The individual courses cover basic to specialized topics, as well as complementary and related material as per the classifications of the Italian Ministry of Education. The main educational objectives of the Master degree course are to provide students with: Broad knowledge of legal history in order to allow them to evaluate the institutions of current statutory law within the perspective of their historical evolution; In-depth examination of national and European law using a comparative approach as well as case study techniques and methods; The ability to draft legal documents regarding regulations, negotiation and court proceedings in a clear and effective manner based on valid argumentation, using the appropriate computer software; Sharp case analysis skills, legal qualification, the ability to classify, evaluate anche critically analyze interpretative issues and concrete applications in the field of law; Mastery of a fundamental skillset that will permit the students to stay abreast of changes in the legal field. WHAT HAS CHANGED SINCE THE THE 2010/2011 ACADEMIC YEAR. Innovative teaching methods In the academic year, the School of implemented an innovative project called D.I.LEX the scope of which is to guarantee that graduating students not only possess a diploma, but, above all, the competences and skills they need to be competitive in the workplace and in society as a whole. In addition, the School has committed to providing all first year students with a personalized approach to their academic orientation so that we can work together to plan their university careers and employment future. An innovative teaching approach is necessary because in today's world simply assimilating facts from a text book is not enough. Our method harnesses the power of a hands-on experience, where students are constantly engaged in practical exercises, group activities and mock simulations that not only stimulate interdisciplinary associations, but also constitute a mnemonic support for the learner. Finally, this project also empowers students with soft skills, such as interpersonal communication, team work and problem solving, needed to acquire the competitive edge in the complex process of finding a job in today's workplace. Objectives of the degree program and methods for verifying their achievement The course of study in the Master degree course in guarantees that students develop the technical, legal and methodological skillset and knowledge to interpret social and economic factors, as well as the ability to apply the competences and knowledge acquired in a practical context. A graduate in must be able to: - Use specialized legal terminology; 3

4 - Demonstrate familiarity with the structures and functions of the main legal institutions as regards substance and procedural issues; - Identify laws and legal institutions, with special regard to the history of law and their philosophical foundations; - Study and understand legal documents written in languages other than Italian; - Know how to elaborate technical legal solutions that can be used in appropriate real-world contexts; - Identify and find appropriate laws and legal cases in both the Italian and international legal systems, using on-line and off-line databases; - Carry out legal research with critical analysis. A graduate in must know how to: - Master basic and advanced knowledge regarding substantive and procedural legal institutions; - Critically present problems and solutions elaborated by legal doctrine and jurisprudence; - Illustrate the evolution of legal institutions from a historical perspective through the basic and advanced study of Roman and Italian law, evaluating the philosophical foundations these legal frameworks; - Master the principle foundations of international and Community law, with a firm knowledge of how these systems interact; - Communicate legal concepts, problems and solutions; - Use a foreign language in a legal context and exchange work-related information. Graduates in must have developed the ability to apply the theoretical and practical competences acquired during their course of study such that they are able to carry out their profession in complete autonomy of judgment. In order to reach the above-mentioned objectives students have access to regular classes, supplemental classes, seminars, simulations and internships. Assessment is conducted through written and/or oral exams, as well as the final degree exam. Admission Requirements For admission to the degree course, candidates must be in possession of a secondary school degree (5 years), or another type of degree earned in Italy or abroad that is recognized as equivalent in compliance with current law. In order to allow students embarking on their university careers to prepare themselves in the best manner possible, the Ministry of Higher Education has established (DM 270/2004 art. 6) that all freshmen take a preliminary text in order to determine their level of preparation. The test does not affect enrollment in any manner and has nothing to do with the entrance exams for degree courses with restricted enrollment. However, the test should be taken before students register for university exam. UNICAM also provide incoming students with the opportunity to take a placement test to assess their proficiency in the English language. If the results of these tests indicate that the student needs further preparation, UNICAM provides specific courses to meet these needs, called integration courses. For further information, please consult the University website ( Occupational opportunities Upon completing their degree in law, graduates usually undertake classic legal professions 4

5 (magistrates, notaries, attorneys) In addition, they can also find employment as managers with high levels of responsibility regarding social, economical and political issues in public administration, private companies, trade unions, new areas of computer law, Community and comparative law (European jurist), diplomatic corps and international and supranational institutions. Furthermore, they can also enter the teaching profession at the high school level, or enter careers with banks, insurance companies, government departments and public institutions. Finally, law graduates can find employment as general managers, senior managers, top executives of state administration, judicial administration, administrators and managers of large companies, professors, researchers and technical staff members. Didactical Organization Prior to the start of their studies all students have the opportunity to participate in the university's orientation days" that UNICAM organizes every year in the first part of October (for information visit the university website). These tables regard - Students who began their degree program in 2011 and are in their first year - Students who began their degree program in 2010 and are in their second year - Students who began their degree program in 2009 and are in their third year - Students who began their degree program in 2008 and are in their fourth year - Students who began their degree program in 2007 and are in their fifth year Curriculum vitae of the professors, syllabus information for individual courses, and academic facilities Professors publish their course description and syllabus on the university web site under the heading Offerta formativa. Here, students can also access the curriculum vitae of the professors and a description of the university s teaching and scientific facilities. Academic support services Orientation Pre-University Orientation As part of training, pre-university orientation provides secondary school students with methodologies and practical information for choosing the university course of study best suited to their goals and skills. For this purpose UNICAM offers: - Guided visits to the University and Orientation Meetings in secondary schools in the Marche and other Regions; - UNICAM Internships; - Project Credits (educational projects for students in the last two years of secondary schools); - Knowledge Travels (educational and informative seminars given by UNICAM lecturers at schools; - Open Doors at UNICAM (orientation days for secondary school students); - Open Doors in the University Schools (opportunities for future university students to acquire exhaustive information on teaching programs and on University services). Postgraduate orientation There is often a gap between the learning program at a university and the reality of the workplace the student needs to enter into. The orientation service offers students who are just graduating and postgraduate students, room for reflection on the choices of support activities for vocational training. This is done in collaboration with the Internships and Placement Service. The event "Young People + University = Work" is of particular relevance here. This takes place each year, generally in the autumn. University students and new graduates are invited to attend the event to have an opportunity to listen to the accounts given by many different professionals, to meet and to establish direct contacts with company representatives, and to get to know experts from the world of work so they can start to plan out their own personal career path. 12

13 The Tutoring / Mentoring program Mentoring contributes to the cultural and professional training of the student, encouraging wider and more and active participation throughout the entire degree course. The mentoring program has the following objectives: - Assist the student in all aspects of their study; - Encourage different ways of participating in the training process; - Remove barriers to education through initiatives tailored to the needs, aptitudes and requirements of each individual student. UNICAM s Mentoring Program provides specialised tutoring activities for both groups and individuals. It organises a flexible range of teaching tutorials during the teaching year, conducted by tutors who have been chosen for their particular profiles, aimed at activities for students who work and for the different teaching approaches required for e-learning. Group Tutoring: provides scheduled meetings with the course teachers, designed to highlight and resolve, through input also from the students, any problems encountered in the teaching course. Individual Tutoring: UNICAM assigns to each student a 'teaching tutor' whose task is to follow and advise the student throughout their course of study. This is done through regular meetings and through meetings requested by the student. Teaching Tutoring: provides Bridging Courses covering the basic scientific disciplines (mathematics, chemistry and physics) and English. Should serious difficulties be encountered in learning activities, tutoring provides groups with recovery support. Other Events: Acclimatisation Days for incoming students Appointments with the Tutors (seminars and workshops for university students on general topics given by experts). The meetings are held periodically during the academic year. Opportunity to study abroad UNICAM offers many possibilities for international mobility: ERASMUS for study The program allows the student to spend a period of study abroad (from 3 to 12 months), providing the opportunity to take courses, to take advantage of university facilities, to conduct research aimed at drafting their degree thesis, and to obtain recognition of exams taken abroad, provided they have been pre-designated within an appropriate study program. Students who are interested can take part in the annual call from the University published in the period December - February. Erasmus Student Placement (internships) Starting in the 2007/2008 academic year, it is possible within the Erasmus program to hold internships (from 3 to 12 months) in enterprises, in research centres, and in European training centres, ensuring a recognition of curricular activities carried out abroad, provided there is agreement in advance with their respective Erasmus coordinators. Internships The connection between the university and the workplace is one of the priorities at UNICAM. UNICAM organises meetings and dialogues amongst students, graduates, professionals and companies. In this spirit, the internship is an important tool allowing students, both graduates and 13

14 the recently graduated, to have experience in a real working environment, an opportunity to learn directly about working-life and the opportunity, in some cases, to develop a particular expertise. The University of Camerino has agreements with more than 1800 companies, institutions, administrative and professional offices, where students, both undergraduate and graduate, may pursue their internships. An internship can be done both in Italy and abroad. Services offered - Management of a database (UNICAM Internship) through which internships are offered. These can be carried out in companies or in public and private agencies. - Activation of post-graduate internships in companies. - Insertion of the CVs of UNICAM graduates into the online database UNICAMJob. - Support activities during entry into the workplace. - Participation in the program 'Work Kit' ( Borsa Lavoro ) (a net of online services and an open system for putting together inquiries and offers of work via the Internet: ( Services for welcoming students with disabilities The 'Welcome Service for Disabled Students' aims at providing students with disabilities equal opportunities for managing their studies and for the chance to live fully the college experience.
