She realised that being a member of ICPA was more than fundraising and going to the AGM, it was about having the capacity and opportunity to make a difference to our children s education, regardless of geographical isolation. It all starts at branch level. Kim is proud to be a State Councillor and is inspired by what ICPA Qld Inc. has achieved since its formation, 40 years ago. Branch Member: Winton Branch Mentor to: Clarke Creek, Roma, Taroom/Wandoan and Winton. Background: Growing up in Roma, Emma left to attend boarding school at St Margaret s in Brisbane in Year 10 to complete her education. On completion of three years nursing training at Princess Alexandra Hospital, she returned to work in the Roma district first at Injune Hospital and then in Roma. Emma married Tom Brodie and moved to Rostock, Yuleba, a property along the Condamine Highway, south of Yuleba. With a one teacher school on their door step at Yuleba Creek, Emma was part of the P&C (even before she had children) and often filled in as teacher s aide. In 1994, Tom and Emma, with their three sons, Harry, Jack and Charlie, moved to the Corfield District, north of Winton just before Harry was about to start school. A daughter, Susie, arrived in 1996, completing the family. All four children were taught through the Longreach School of Distance Education (LSDE) for their primary schooling the first six years with a governess and the last eight with Emma as their teacher. All attended Downlands College in Toowoomba for their secondary education. The three boys are now finished and Susie is currently in Year 10. Harry will shortly complete his electrician s apprenticeship, Jack is presently at home (at Knapdale) helping run the property and Charlie is a first year apprentice plumber. During Emma s association with LSDE she was a P&C member and secretary for four years and on the tourism committee and school council. Emma has been an ICPA Winton branch member since the family moved there, held the position of president for a few years, convened the 2009 ICPA conference in Winton and is presently branch Publicity Officer. She has been on several district committees, but has scaled down her volunteer commitments over the last few years to help Tom in their livestock agency business in Winton. So, why does Emma want to join state council? To be honest with you, my first motivation was - this could be fun! I ve been to a few conferences now and always find them really stimulating. I love being in the same room with so many enthusiastic and passionate advocates for our isolated kids. I want to be part of that passion, so here I am, joining council, so as I can join the fun!

7 Name: Caroline Green Qld Council: Councillor and Lone Member s Officer Current Portfolios: Boarding Schools (Leader), Post Compulsory, Lone Members (Leader) Branch Member: Clermont Branch Mentor to: Aramac/Muttaburra, Blackall, Nebo, & Springsure. Caroline s father organised the first meeting in Cunnamulla in 1971 to form the ICPA Queensland branch. Her mother taught Caroline and her older sister by correspondence school from preschool to grade five. During this time they attended School of the Air through the Charleville Flying Doctor Service base. Caroline spent grades six and seven at Toowoomba Prep before completing her secondary education at Glennie and later Clayfield College. In the years following school, Caroline mainly worked in the rural industry. She did spend time doing other things and was a single mother for seven years, so she appreciates how busy life can get with kids, school and juggling three jobs. She has two girls, Abigail, 14, and Hannah, 12, who are boarders at the Rockhampton Girls Grammar School. During their primary years the girls attended a small, composite class school near Toowoomba. Caroline is familiar with the trials and tribulations of small schools, plus the benefits they bring. She is a member of the ICPA Clermont branch. Caroline and her partner, Angus, recently moved to Aramac to manage a Santa Gertrudis operation. When time permits, Caroline also volunteers for Ag-force as a rural champion. She is committed to helping those in the bush make it an easier and more attractive place to live and encouraging younger generations to stay in the bush. She looks forward to helping those who seek it through her role as the boarding school portfolio leader...

8 Name: Tammie Irons Qld Council: Councillor Current Portfolios: Small Schools (Leader), Early Childhood, Teacher Education, Curriculum and RREAP Branch Member: Westmar-Inglestone Branch Mentor to: Westmar-Inglestone, Moonie, Kindon, Condamine/Western Downs and Dawson Valley. Background: Tammie grew up in the Dawson Valley at Theodore on a cotton farm and attended the state school to Year 10, and boarded at Rockhampton Grammar School for Year 11 and 12. Tammie has lived with her husband Rob on their cattle and cropping property at Glenmorgan for nearly 8 years. Their children are currently attending Glenmorgan SS and Glenmorgan C&K Kindergarten. Tammie became a member of ICPA six years ago when her children began attending kindergarten. She has been publicity officer and is currently also Vice-President for the Westmar-Inglestone branch. Tammie attended her first conference in Charters Towers in 2010 and then Federal Conference in Darwin in 2011 and has continued to be thoroughly impressed with the professionalism and dedication of ICPA as a whole. She loves discussing ICPA with friends and family and encouraging anyone who is involved in education at any level to become a part of ICPA. Tammie acted in the role of Treasurer/Registrations Officer of the Convening Committee of the 2012 ICPA State Conference hosted in Goondiwindi and this only made her more passionate and intent on stepping up to State Council. She enjoyed learning even more about how ICPA works and interacts with government departments and was ecstatic to see the obvious respect for ICPA from the many representatives that attended. Tammie is proud to be a State Councillor and is keen to represent such a wonderful organisation which strives to facilitate equality in education for all students..
