2 Welcome to auditions for The Wizard of Oz. This production will be based on the Royal Shakespeare Company s version. Auditions will be held at the South Reno United Methodist Church, 200 DeSpain Lane, Reno Nevada 89511, Wednesday April 13 th and Sunday April 17th. Callbacks will be held Sunday April 24th. Specific times will be listed below. Auditions are open to men, women, and children in the 4 th grade and up. We will be looking for actors, singers, and dancers. For auditions please prepare a 1 minute comedic monologue, memorized, and one verse of a song from a Broadway musical which shows off your voice, range, and personality. If you need a piano accompaniment, bring the sheet music. (Have all cuts or repetitions clearly marked. Place your music in a binder or tape the sheets together for the benefit of the accompanist.) If you will be bringing you own accompaniment, it must be on CD. No IPhones, IPods, or other cell devices can be used to play your backing track. Bring a headshot, 5 X 7 is preferred along with the audition application, conflict calendar and resume. All those auditioning wishing to be part of ensemble dance numbers should be prepared to attend the dance audition. You only need to come to one of the two audition dates. Absences All conflicts must be listed. A calendar is enclosed which you must submit along with your audition form in order to be cast. In the event you must miss a rehearsal for an unexpected reason, please let us know as soon as possible. Please be forthright in listing all your conflicts. We can best work around absences if we know of them in advance. Attendance is mandatory at all dress and tech rehearsals. CASTING WILL BE BASED ON TALENT, YOUR FIT FOR THE ROLE, AND YOUR AVAILABILITY. Production Fees We are a teaching organization that relies on grants, donations, production fees, and ticket sales in order to offer performance opportunities to the many talented people we have in this area. These productions are very expensive, so anyone who performs in this production is required to pay a $75.00 production fee, payable by cash or check on May 15th. If the production fee is a hardship, SSPA does offer a limited number of scholarships to cover this expense. Please go to our website at and download the scholarship. application. Scholarship applications should be handed in at the first rehearsal May 15 th. Behavior Our goal is to have a great time, learn, and put on a fabulous production. We expect all cast members to be courteous and treat everyone, including theater spaces, props, and costumes with respect.

3 Rehearsals Rehearsals will begin Sunday May 15, The first rehearsal is always a mandatory cast and parent meeting. For those of you under the age of 18, a parent must come to the meeting which will take up approximately the first 45 minutes of rehearsal. See the complete general rehearsal schedule included in this packet. This schedule is provided for general information only, not specific scheduling. You will receive an every Sunday that gives a detailed schedule for each week s rehearsal. All rehearsals (except tech rehearsals) will be located at Sierra School of Performing Arts, 1380 Greg Street, Suite 225, Sparks Nevada Rehearsals scheduled prior to the school year ending will be on weekends only. Once the school year is over, rehearsals will occur during the week, leaving weekends free for fun and family. Rehearsals will be planned carefully so that only those in a particular scene will come at specific times. How the audition works For anyone who wishes to be a member of the dance troupe or be considered for a role that requires dancing, you must take part in the dance audition. A video of the dance you will need to perform will be posted by April 1 st at The dance audition times are as follows: Wednesday April 13, :30 pm to 6:45 pm Sunday April 17, :00pm to 2:30pm Immediately following the dance audition we will begin auditioning those who have prepared a song and monologue. These will be scheduled time slots and you will need to sign up for an audition time. Go to our website find the audition information and click the Request Time Slot button. The scheduled time slots will be available for: Wednesday April 13, :00 pm 9:00 pm Sunday April 17, :45 6:00 pm Callbacks Once the panel has determined who they need to see again an will be sent out to all people who auditioned listing the people that will need to be present at callbacks. If your name does not appear on the callback list it does not mean that you won t be cast in the show, it just means that the panel does not need to see you again before casting parts. Call backs will take place Sunday April 24, 2016 from 1:00 pm 6:00 pm. A more detailed schedule of times will be in the callback . Release of Cast List Once the show has been cast, everyone who auditioned will be notified of the results. If you are offered a role in the show whether it be a principle role, ensemble, or dance troupe, you must the Stage Manager to either accept or turn down the offer. First rehearsal will be Sunday, May 15, 2016.

4 Performances All performances will take place at the Robert Z Hawkins Amphitheater at Bartley Ranch Regional Park. Performance dates are August 12 th -14 th, and August 19 th -21 st. Roles to Be Cast Teens & Adults to play the following lead or featured roles: *(must be non-allergic to dogs) DOROTHY GALE: (15-18) Female strong singer who moves well. Vocal Range: G below middle C F.* SCARECROW/HUNK: (18+) strong singer/actor, good dancer, excellent physical control. Sympathetic and optimistic friend, lovable and clumsy. Vocal range: baritone to F.* TINMAN /HICKORY: (18+) strong singer/actor, good dancer. Charming and thoughtful, a kind-hearted romantic. Vocal range: strong baritone to F.* COWARDLY LION/ZEKE: (18+) Character actor with excellent comic timing, a singer who moves well. Vocal range: baritone to F.* WICKED WITCH OF THE WEST/MS GULTCH: (30-50) female actor, vengeful, nasty, possible singing.* GLINDA: (30+) Strong female singer. Maternal figure, Beautiful, Benevolent and Beloved. Vocal range: strong soprano to A-flat. UNCLE HENRY: (40-65)- Non-singing male actor, but may double in chorus. Dorothy s Uncle, and guardian. Good hearted, and plain-speaking. A hardworking Kansas farmer, and affectionate family-man. AUNT EM: (40+) non-singing female actor, but may double in chorus. WIZARD OF OZ/PROFESSOR MARVEL: (50-65)- Non-singing male, strong character actor. GUARD: non-singing actor, good comedic timing NIKKO THE MONKEY: non-singing actor ENSEMBLE: (all ages, but children must be in at least 4 th grade) MUNCHKINS: (children) Group singing and movement required. The little people of Munchkinland. Long oppressed, and happy to be freed by Dorothy. FEATURED MUNCHKINS: - The Mayor of Munchkin City, The Coroner, The Lollipop Guild, and The Lullaby League (ballet dancers).

5 FLYING MONKEYS: Minions of the Wicked Witch of the West. Will most likely be double-cast as Munchkins. CITIZENS OF OZ: Must sing and move well, or dance. THE WINKIES: (grades 4 and up) Palace guards to the Wicked Witch of the West, double as Citizens of Oz. JITTERBUGS: DANCE ONLY TREES, CROWS, OZIANS, POPIKINS, SNOWMEN: Misc. character, singing, or dance roles.
