2 FALL 2015 Dear Parents of Holy Cross Wednesday Weekday School Children & members of the 5 th, 6 th, 7 th, & 8 th grade youth confirmation classes. We will be starting our new year of Wednesday Weekday School on September 9 th at 6:00 PM. This year we will be offering classes for grades 1-8, high school, adults, and babysitting for parents attending classes. We will adhere to the following calendar dates and schedule. WEDNESDAY CLASS SCHEDULE Wednesday Weekday School Classes 6:00 7:15 PM 5 th, 6 th, 7 th, & 8 th Grade Confirmation Classes 6:00 7:15 PM Adult Life Light Classes 6:00 7:30 PM Adult Choir Practice 7:30 8:30 PM CALENDAR DATES FOR On the page (4) you will see our calendar dates for classes and scheduled holidays. WEATHER CANCELLATION If the Nederland ISD cancels classes due to inclement weather we also will cancel classes. YOUTH CONFIRMATION CLASSES Holy Cross has a four-year program for her pre-confirmation students. Classes are for those entering the 5 th, 6 th, 7 th, & 8 th grades. 5 th, 6 th, 7 th & 8 th CONFIRMATION CLASS RETREAT We are partnering with Salem Lutheran Church in Tomball, Texas as they are providing for the Lutheran youth of the greater Houston area an event called EPICENTER. EPICENTER will be Friday & Saturday, February 26 th & 27 th,

3 BOOKS & MATERIALS Holy Cross will provide textbooks and supplies for the classes. All grades will leave their textbooks in their classes. This prevents the loss of the textbook at home, school, or wherever textbooks disappear. BIBLES & COPIES OF LUTHER S SMALL CATECHISM Students in grades (3-8) will need to bring their personal copy of the New International Version (NIV) Bible with them to class. These are inexpensive and can be found at Wal-Mart, SAM S, or your nearest Christian bookstore. Holy Cross will give to every new student a copy of Luther s Small Catechism. We ask the returning students to bring back their copy of the Catechism for use in every grade level. Catechisms are available through one of the pastors or the church office. DISRUPTIVE BEHAVIOR Your child is to be well behaved and to treat fellow students and teachers with love and respect. ONE Students who are disruptive will be removed from class and sent to the Wednesday Weekday School Director. The Director and student will discuss the matter and improvements encouraged. TWO Students who continue to be disruptive will be removed from class and sent to Pastor Schroeder. THREE If the student s behavior does not improve, then the parents will be contacted and a meeting with the student, teacher, Weekday School Director, and one of the pastors established. FOUR Consistent disruptive behavior will require a parent to attend classes with their child for the remainder of the year. 3

4 SERMON REPORTS FOR GRADES 5 th, 6 th, 7 th & 8 th Sermon reports will be required for confirmation classes. These reports will need to have the student attentive during the worship services. There will be differences from Sunday to Sunday. Sermon reports will begin on Sunday, September 6 th, 2015 and conclude on Easter Sunday, March 27 th, th graders need to complete 5 sermon reports 6 th graders need to complete 10 sermon reports 7 th graders need to complete 15 sermon reports 8 th graders need to complete 20 sermon reports The sermon report forms are located in the narthex (foyer); under the guest register. The completed reports are to be returned to the wicker box in the narthex of the church. 4
