2 A Prayer Upon Entering: Christ, our Healer, you restored sight to a man born blind. Now help us to see you at work in our lives. Remove the blinders of sin and evil. Take away all that obstructs our view of you. And clear our vision to see the glory that awaits us in heaven. O guiding Lord, lead us into the bright light of your love. As projected What Is The Sacrament of the Altar? WELCOME to all members and visitors with us this morning. Jesus told His followers to go and make disciples, and we exist here to carry out that task, by baptizing and teaching the Word of God. We invite you to worship with us again. Please sign our guest book in the narthex, or fill out one of the cards in pew rack, as a reminder of your visit with us today. WE INVITE TO THE LORD'S ALTAR this Wednesday, all who are members of Lutheran Church - Canada, and those who are in fellowship with LC-C. If you are a first time guest and wish to commune, please speak to the pastor before the service begins. We believe in the real presence of Christ's body and blood in the Sacrament, in, with, and under the bread and wine, received for the forgiveness of sins and the strength and joy to live the Christian life. THE NURSERY is available for times that children are restless, and is equipped with a sound system to enable parents to continue worshipping. COFFEE. Then we will learn more about the Airdrie Mission and have some fellowship before a friendly drive home. MISSION OF THE MONTH: Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, Airdrie At our Voters meeting, the congregation recognized that congregations, such as Shepherd of the Hills, could be facing changes to their support, due to things happening in the district. We want to show our care for these brothers and sisters in Christ, and are looking at ways to help them. That is why they are our Mission of the Month. We encourage your gift, using your mission envelope, to help this congregation in their ongoing ministry. JOIN US FOR LENTEN SUPPERS AND WORSHIP This Wednesday, March 11th, will be our third of five weekly soup and bun suppers before the Lenten services. The next suppers will be on Wednesdays, March 18 and 25. Supper is at 5:30 and service is at 6:30 pm. This is a wonderful opportunity to feed the body and feed the soul. For information please contact Vi Dusterhoft, Brenda Bode or Anni Adams.
5 MARVELous District Youth Gathering: Plans are under way across Alberta and B.C. for youth to attend this year s District Youth Gathering at Trinity Western University in Langley, B.C. July 2 nd 5 th. If you are interested, please speak with Deaconess Miriam. WE ARE HOSTING A SEDER SUPPER on Maundy Thursday, April 2 nd at 6:00 pm. This special evening will help us understand the background and significance of the Passover Celebration, during which our Saviour gave us the blessed Sacrament of the Altar. It includes dinner, as well as our Maundy Thursday worship. This is a wonderful, unique experience, and we believe you will find it a real blessing, both for your understanding of Scripture, but also as a special time of fellowship together as God s people. To help in our planning, and to cover the cost of the dinner, we are selling tickets, available through the church office. The cost is $4.00/person, with a maximum cost of $12.00/family. We also need help to prepare the meal, and with several items, such as green salads (nothing dairy) and pies. Sign up lists are posted on the table at the back of the church. We hope you will join us for this special Lenten observance. Confirmands: This is a required part of confirmation instruction, replacing the class that week. ON THE TRAIL OF MARTIN LUTHER: Pastor David and Brenda Bode invite you to join them on a tour of the land where Luther preached, taught, and brought the Gospel of Jesus Christ back to the light of His church. This is the same tour being advertised in the present Canadian Lutheran, and we truly hope we can have a group from our Calgary churches make this trip. A presentation on this trip with Colette Travel will be held on Monday, March 16 th here at the church. The trip is planned for September 16-26, Pastor has pricing and other information available. Highlights include: Worms, Gutenberg Museum, Mainz, Erfurt, Wartburg Castle, Lutherhaus, Dresden, Leipzig, St. Thomas Church, Eisleben, Wittenberg, St. Mary s Church, Berlin. Join us for the presentation--it will be a journey to remember, as we remember, learn and treasure the history of our church and the faith that we hold so dear. If you would like more information, you may contact Pastor Bode at flcpastor@foothillslutheran.com A GIFT OF NEW FURNISHINGS for the offices and for the sacristy have been given to the congregation by Pastor and Brenda Bode, in loving memory of Brenda's father, Ross Coombes, and of all their parents. We thank them for this gift to our congregation. OUR MEN S BREAKFAST STUDY has missed a couple of gatherings, but we are going to meet again this coming Saturday, at 9:30 am. We invite all our men to join us for breakfast and this time of fellowship around God s Word.
6 BREAD OF LIFE VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL is scheduled for the weeks of July and July Online registration is now available at If you have children age 4 years to entering grade 6, you will set aside one week for them to attend! We are also looking for volunteer teachers, helpers, and activity leaders for these weeks. Please speak with Vicar Eric or Deaconess Miriam to be part of this summer outreach in our community. WE HAVE NEW NAME TAGS! You may have seen the new tags being worn by the Elders and leaders of the congregation. They attach to clothing by a magnetic clip, rather than a pin. We do encourage all our members to get a new tag, and to wear them regularly but we are asking that you inform the office that you would like one of these name tags. We ll print the name on the tag, and leave it in your mailbox. In a larger church like ours, this is a simple, but effective way of helping us to get to know one another. Please wear a tag and get your new name tag from the church office. YOUTH DINNER AND PRAYER WALK - Friday, March 13 th : Lent is a time for prayer and contemplation. Come for dinner and a prayer walk based on the Lord's Prayer. Meet at the church at 6:00 pm. Please let Deaconess Miriam know if you plan to attend, so that enough food is prepared for you! LET S GET COOKING! We are planning a day to make perogies, on Saturday, March 14 th, from 9:00 am 1:00 pm. A sign-up sheet is on the fellowship board in the narthex. Join us for some fun and fellowship and for a jump on dinners! FLC PRESCHOOL is now accepting registrations for the fall. Visit our website at or phone the preschool at Registration forms are available on the table outside room 5, on the lower level of the church. Registration forms can also be printed from our website. You are welcome to schedule a time to view a class session if you wish. Betty Ann would be happy to answer any questions you might have. LWML ST PATRICK S DAY TEA AT THE MANOR...We will be hosting a St. Patrick's Day Tea at Foothills Manor on Friday, March 13 at 2:00. Ladies, please bring goodies and help set-up between 1:30 and 1:45. We are looking forward to an afternoon of singing and fellowship with the Residents at the Manor. Our next meeting with be March 23 rd.
7 THE DROPBOX, a new documentary from Focus on the Family Canada, tells the story of Pastor Lee Jong-rak and how he provides a safe haven for babies in Seoul, South Korea, who would otherwise be abandoned on the streets to die. This movie has a second showing scheduled on Monday, March 9 th at 7:30 pm at the Cineplex Odeon Sunridge Spectrum theatre in NE Calgary. If you wanted to see it and could not attend last Thursday, here is your chance. Tickets can be purchased online at: WE ARE HAVING A VOTERS' MEETING next Sunday, March 15, following the service and a light lunch. We will be deciding if we will amend our budget, permitting us to call a 2nd pastor; and to apply for a candidate from the seminary. Lord willing, our district president, Rev. Don Schiemann, will be with us that day, and can answer any questions about the process. This is an important meeting, and we hope you will join us for this time of discussion. Please continue to pray for our church, and for the work we do, that we may be united in heart and spirit, and ready to go where God may lead us. WITH SO MANY GERMS AND VIRUSES it is natural that we be concerned about those unseen menaces. People have expressed concern in this regard, when it comes to the distribution of Holy Communion. Please be aware that we are very conscious of this, and our pastor and the elders are very careful in washing their hands before the distribution. We have reminded the elders of the importance of this again. Rather than simply having a bottle of sanitizer at the altar, we are looking into a lavabo--basically a bowl to provide water for the washing of hands. It consists normally of an ewer or container of some kind to pour water, and a bowl to catch the water as it falls off the hands. In ecclesiastical usage it refers to both the basin in which the pastor washes his hands before the distribution. Check the words of Psalm 26:6-7! AS WE DRAW NEAR TO HOLY WEEK, we remind you that Easter is a great time to invite others to come and see the wonders of God s love and grace. Invite a friend to join you, as we remember all that our Saviour has done for us, and thank God for the victory we have through Jesus Christ. Invite them to breakfast, too! Our special services of Easter and Holy Week: April 2 nd Maundy Thursday Seder Supper at 6:15 pm April 3 rd April 5 th Good Friday Worship at 10:15 am Easter Sunrise Service with Communion at 7:30 am Breakfast from 8:30 9:45 am Easter Resurrection Celebration with Communion 10:15 am Let us remember all that our Saviour has done for us, and to thank God for the victory we have through Jesus Christ. and share this great and glorious news of the Living Lord with our friends and family.
