1 KENTUCKY BLUEGRASSES BlueChip Plus Kentucky Bluegrass: BlueChip Plus has good cold-hardiness and performs strongly in the cool-arid region. BlueChip Plus provides early spring greening during March and April well into November. BlueChip Plus shows resistance to summer patch, melting out, necrotic ring spot, leaf spot, pink and Microdochium snow mold, and dollar spot. It also resists seedling damping off. Tolerates low fertility levels. Sow Rate: 3 to 5 pounds per 1,000 square feet. Overseed at 2 to 3 pounds per 1,000 square feet YD # bag YD # bag Common Kentucky Bluegrass 98/85 or 85/80 Common Kentucky bluegrass is harvested from old established fields. No improvements have been bred or genetically engineered to the cultivar. This cool-season, perennial, rhizomatous finetextured grass was first adapted to the Midwest then worked its way into the Rocky Mountains as a pasture grass. Common Kentucky bluegrass is used in pasture and lawn mixtures but is not resistant to any Kentucky bluegrass diseases. Common Kentucky bluegrass is used to over-seed older, established lawn areas. Common has the ability to blend well with other older varieties of grasses but has a stemmy appearance. Kentucky bluegrass is found growing as high as 10,000 feet which makes it an excellent grass for mountain meadows, soil stabilization and general erosion control. Common Kentucky bluegrass shows some drought tolerance. by going dormant very quickly when water is withheld and become green again when moisture returns and the temperatures are cooler. Sow Rate: 3 to 5 pounds per 1,000 square feet. Overseed at 2 to 3 pounds per 1,000 square feet YD # 98/85 YD # 85/80 Everest Kentucky Bluegrass Everest Kentucky bluegrass shows its peak performance under high temperature. It is resistant to leaf spot, summer patch, powdery mildew, melting out, strip smut and necrotic ring spot. It develops rapidly and prefers cooler weather. Everest produces a dark blue-green, lush turf that s tough, extremely dense with the best tear resistance of any Kentucky Bluegrass. Genetically engineered to be pest free. Everest produces a smooth, consistent appearance. Sow Rate: 3 to 5 pounds per 1,000 square feet. Overseed at 2 to 3 pounds per 1,000 square feet YD10140 YD # bag 50# bag
2 KENTUCKY BLUEGRASSES Geronimo Kentucky Bluegrass Geronimo is a medium dark green Kentucky bluegrass that has good seedling vigor, fast establishment, and excellent wear tolerance. Its aggressive rhizomes and good tillering ability allows for rapid filling of bare areas. In addition, Geronimo has excellent spring green-up and density. It has shown good resistance to leafspot and yellow rust. Geronimo is widely adapted throughout the cool humid regions of North America. Its wear resistance and slow vertical growth makes it suitable for parks, playgrounds, home owners, and highway departments. Sow Rate: 3 to 5 pounds per 1,000 square feet. Overseed at 2 to 3 pounds per 1,000 square feet YD # bag NuBlue Plus Kentucky Bluegrass NuBlue Plus has a dark, rich color, fine leaf texture and good density plus features good heat and drought tolerance. NuBlue Plus has improved seedling vigor and early establishment. Quick seedling establishment reduces early weed problems and is important for all bluegrass turf, especially for sod production, sports turf, and recreational mixes. NuBlue Plus performs well under both high and low maintenance. In a drought study, NuBlue Plus exhibited strong drought tolerance. With water use an important issue in most areas, it s important that grasses exhibit strong drought tolerance to minimize the loss of quality and playability. Sow Rate: 3 to 5 pounds per 1,000 square feet. Overseed at 2 to 3 pounds per 1,000 square feet YD10170 YD # bag 50# bag Perfection Kentucky Bluegrass Irrigated, Not Irrigated, less than 1 inch to 3 inches mowing height... this new Aggressive Type Kentucky Bluegrass offers Top Rated Performance with whatever maintenance regime you prefer, Perfection exhibits one of the shortest growth habits available, a fine leaf texture, is very wear tolerant and has excellent turf density. 3 FINE FESCUES Chewings Fescue VNS Chewings fescue is an aggressive, bunch-type fine fescue that can overtake other grasses - a bad quality if you want to preserve these but good if you want to crowd out weeds. Because of its high shade tolerance, it is sometimes used to overseed shady lawns, often in mixtures with perennial ryegrass. Chewings fescue is best adapted to cooler areas in the northern United States. It s well adapted to the sandy, often infertile soils. Chewings has a more upright growth habit than creeping red fescues, yet still retaining the fine texture. Chewings Fescues known to be among the most shade and drought tolerant of the cool season grasses. Sow Rate: 5 pounds per 1,000 square feet, overseeding 2 to 3 pounds per 1,000 square feet YD # bag Frazer Chewing s Fescue Frazer is a new variety of Chewings fescue developed by using repetitive cycles of mass selection. The parental clones exhibited excellent turf quality, dark genetic color, high plant vigor, turf persistence, and disease resistance. Frazer has excellent springtime green-up, growth, and color development. This variety can also be relied upon for its resistance to many diseases including leaf spot, blotch, anthracnose, powdery mildew, red thread, dollar spot, and rust. Frazer is solid performer over a large geographical area, and does not require large amounts of water and fertilizer to grow. This variety has been shown to thrive under low maintenance areas in golf course roughs, roadside turf, parks, and home lawns. Frazer can be relied upon to provide an excellent turf either alone or in lawn mixtures. Frazer tolerates moving shade. Sow Rate: 5 pounds per 1,000 square feet, overseeding 2 to 3 pounds per 1,000 square feet YD # bag VNS Common Creeping Red Fescue VNS Common Creeping Red Fescue can be a mixture of older common varieties that is a short growing, perennial cool-season grass that spreads by underground stems. It displays some drought tolerance. The leaves are bright green with a reddish lower sheath. As a general rule do not hold up to heavy foot traffic but will hold up to normal lawn wear. It can be grown in sun and is capable of rapid leaf development even when grown in moving shade and does very well when seeded into a thinning lawn. Creeping Red Fescue grows particularly well at high altitudes because of its cold tolerance and is found in many mixtures recommended for high altitude. Sow Rate: 5 pounds per 1,000 square feet, overseeding 2 to 3 pounds per 1,000 square feet YD #
4 FINE FESCUES Pennlawn Creeping Red Fescue Pennlawn is one of the top performing creeping red fescues because of its rhizome growth that quickly fills in bare areas thereby reducing soil erosion and prevent weed invasion. Pennlawn is tolerant of close mowing and withstands foot traffic better than the common varieties. Pennlawn Creeping Red Fescue can be used on roadsides or hills for erosion control. Pennlawn Creeping Red Fescue contains endophytes that discourage leaf and crown-feeding insects. It should not be planted in areas of confined grazing areas where cattle, sheep or horses can eat the grass. Endophytes are a wonderful addition to lawn grasses but can be harmful to livestock. Sow Rate: 5 pounds per 1,000 square feet, overseeding 2 to 3 pounds per 1,000 square feet YD # bag Silverlawn Creeping Red Fescue Silverlawn Creeping Red fescue grass is one of the most versatile, hardy turf grasses for northern, cool climates. It is drought tolerant, shade tolerant, and grows in poor soils. This grass type grows best under challenging conditions, which makes it a perfect choice for many neighborhood lawns. Silverlawn has exceptional shade tolerance with a beautiful dark green color and improved disease resistance. Silverlawn tolerates foot traffic better than other creeping red fescue varieties. Sow Rate: 5 pounds per 1,000 square feet, overseeding 2 to 3 pounds per 1,000 square feet YD # bag Henry Hard Fescue Henry Hard Fescue exhibits excellent vigor, persistence, shade tolerance and disease resistance. This hard fescue variety is an aggressive grower, and the establishment of turf mixes are greatly enhanced by its addition. Henry has a medium- dark green color. Henry s turf density is equal to the 10 best hard fescue varieties. The early spring green-up is outstanding, with rapid early season turf growth. This variety of hard fescue was bred for toughness, and low maintenance turf requirements. Henry has strong resistance to major hard fescue diseases such as leaf spots and blotches, powdery mildew, red thread, dollar spot, and stem rust. It can be relied on to provide years of high quality, disease free, and low maintenance turf. Sow Rate: 4 pounds per 1,000 square feet, overseeding 2 to 3 pounds per 1,000 square feet YD # bag
5 FINE FESCUES Sheep Fescue VNS Sheep Fescue is a low-growing, drought tolerant, perennial, cool-season, bunch grass that grows in small clumps. Sheep Fescue will grow in sun or moving shade. It is very hardy and withstands temperature extremes of very cold to hot. It will not tolerate humidity. After establishment Sheep Fescue will not tolerate areas that are constantly moist or areas with alkaline soils and prefers a soil ph of 5.5 to 7.0. Sheep Fescue is used for reclamation and soil stabilization on hills, roadsides, road cuts, fills, pipelines and open forest areas. Sheep Fescue requires as little as 12 inches of annual precipitation after it is established. Its natural low-growth (6 to 12 inches tall) and slow-growth habits make it an ideal candidate for alternative clumpy turf or for an area designated for low maintenance. Sheep Fescue is very dark-green and fine bladed. It will grow on almost any soil type succeeding on sandy or gravely sites. It requires very little fertilizer. Sheep Fescue is not susceptible to insect infestation because of the endophyte content in the grass seed. 12 LAWN GRASS MIXTURES YARD LAWN & TURF MIXTURES Yard Southwest Native Blend Southwest Native Mix is a blend of native perennial warm-season grasses and annual ryegrass as a nursery grass for the slower establishing warm-season grasses. The perennial warm-season grasses are very long-lived. This mixture is used for drought tolerant lawns, nutritious pastures and rangelands, as well as soil stabilization on roadways and south facing slopes at altitudes of 6,000 feet or lower. Southwest Native Mix is completely drought tolerant once established. It is totally resistant to insects and diseases. This mixture requires full sun. Seed should be sown April through June on clean soil that is weed free and devoid of cool-season grasses. Later sowings will not produce expected results. Cultivate the new seed bed 4 to 6 inches deep adding peat moss or compost and starter fertilizer. Sow the seed 1/8 to ¼ inches deep, cover with soil and lightly tamp seed bed. Keep the area evenly moist throughout the germination period. Native grasses can be slow to establish and weeds should be removed by hand. Weed killers will discolor warm-season grasses and should not be applied. Fertilization (without weed-killers) will improve color and growth and an occasional deep watering will keep Southwest Native Mix looking its best. Planting rate: new lawns 5 pounds per 1,000 square feet, existing lawns 2 pounds per 1,000 square feet.
