1 Georgia District Anchor 2015 Anchor Scholarship Requirements Georgia District Anchors will award three $500 scholarships to graduating senior Georgia District Anchors at the Anchor Convention. These scholarships are available to all Georgia District Anchors. Clubs may submit more than one application per club. The Scholarship Committee will review all scholarship applications and the scholarships will be awarded based upon Anchor service, academics, community service and an essay on What Anchor Means to Me. Requirements: 1. Be a graduating senior 2. Currently be a member in good standing in a GA District Anchor Club 3. Have paid Pilot International and Georgia District dues 4. Have a minimum of a 3.0 or B academic average 5. Plan to continue your education at an accredited college or university Complete applications should include: 1. Attached application signed by school counselor or principal and student 2. 1 ½ to 2 page essay on What Anchor Means to Me 3. Official high school transcript with seal or stamp 4. Sealed letters of recommendation from two of the following: teacher, school counselor, clergyman, employer, or a Pilot member or other community leader who has knowledge of your Anchor and community volunteer activities Complete applications must be postmarked no later than February 2, Applications should be mailed to: Mary Turner GA District Anchor Coordinator 417 Elm Street Elberton, GA The Georgia District Anchor Scholarship winners will be announced at the Anchor Convention Awards Banquet at Lake Lanier on Saturday, February 28, 2015.

4 GEORGIA DISTRICT ANCHOR 2015 COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD POSTMARK DEADLINE: February 2, 2015 RULES FOR COMPETITION THIS AWARD IS TO RECOGNIZE THE ANCHOR CLUB WITH THE SINGLE BEST SERVICE PROJECT FOR THE TIME PERIOD SPECIFIED IN THE RULES BELOW. 1. To be eligible for competition, the dates to which the entry will apply must meet the following requirement: a. Activities must have been conducted in their entirety during the club period for which the competition is judged. For this year s award, the time period is February 1, 2014 through January 31, b. If a club had a project that only lasted one full school year beginning August 2010 and ending June 2011, they may submit documentation on that project for that school year for this award. 2. The cover sheet will contain the following: a. The Anchor Emblem b. Name of the Anchor Club c. Georgia District Anchor Community Service Award Application (these exact words) d. Period of time covered by the entry (February 1, 2014 January 31, 2015) [or exact school year dates if option 1b is chosen] 3. The first page is the title page and should contain the following: a. Name of the Anchor Club b. Number of club members c. Name and address of the club President d. Name of the sponsoring Pilot Club e. Date of the Anchor Club charter 4. The second page begins the table of contents. Material must be clearly classified to facilitate evaluation. A suggested format is as follows: a. Section 1: Service Story b. Section 2: Newspaper and magazine clippings and substantiating letters c. Section 3: Action photographs with proper identification d. Section 4: Programs, posters, outlines

The story (Section 1) should show the direct relationship between a determined need and the club s service activity, as well as the planning, promotion, and involvement of club members (and other volunteers) and the execution and demonstrated results. a. The story is limited to three pages and must be submitted, preferably typewritten, on white unlined 8-1/2 x 11 paper. Only one side of each page may be used. b. If an expenditure of funds is necessary for the success of the activity, the necessary fundraising may be considered as part of the activity. However, fundraising itself may not be considered as a service activity. 6. Substantiating materials (Section 2, 3, and 4) need to apply only to the project described in Section 1 (points will be deducted for adding materials not relevant to the project) and shall not exceed 20 pages using one side of each page only. a. All news clippings must be identified by the name and date of the publication in which each item appeared. b. The words Anchor, Anchor Club, Pilot Club and Pilot International should be underlined or highlighted in color in each clipping. c. In compiling publicity received from radio or television announcements or programs, submit as much documentation as you can. (no tapes or videos) 7. Entries should be postmarked by February 2, 2015 to: JoAnn Akers 180 Roswell Farms Ct. Roswell, GA All entries must be sent postage paid. Insured shipping or package tracking is suggested. UPS and Fed-Ex are both accepted at this location. It is your responsibility to make sure that your entry will actually go out by the deadline date. 9. Club entries must be Anchor Clubs in good standing. Both Pilot International and Georgia District dues must be paid. Please provide proof of dues payment (receipt from Pilot International and GA District or statements from both groups will also be accepted).

6 Pilot Club Information Georgia Pilot Foundation, Inc 2015 Anchor Scholarship Application The Georgia Pilot Foundation, Inc will award up to five $1,500 scholarships to graduating seniors who are members of an Anchor Club in the Georgia District of Pilot International. Only one application per Anchor Club will be considered. The sponsoring Pilot Club s Scholarship Committee is responsible for selecting and submitting one entry if there are multiple applicants from an Anchor Club. Before submitting the application, the sponsoring Pilot Club should verify that the Anchor Club has paid their Pilot International and Georgia District Anchor dues, that the applicant is complete and signed by the Pilot Youth Coordinator. Requirements: 1) Be a graduating senior in good standing of a GA District Anchor Club 2) Have a minimum of a 3.0 or B academic average 3) Plan to continue your education at an accredited college or university 4) Have paid all required Pilot International and Georgia District dues 5) Be recommended by your sponsoring Pilot Club or Anchor Advisor The Scholarship Committee consisting of 4 Georgia District Pilots will review all scholarship applications. GPF scholarships will be awarded based upon the following criteria: Anchor participation Academic excellence and achievements Community, civic, church, or school volunteer activities Financial Need Scholarship winners will be announced at the Georgia District Anchor Convention, February 28, 2015 at Lake Lanier Island. Scholarship recipients will be asked to attend the awards luncheon of the Georgia District Pilot Convention in Norcross, GA on April 11, Scholarship monies will be sent directly to the college or university of the student s choice. Any unused funds must be returned to the Georgia Pilot Foundation, Inc The GA District Pilot Club's Scholarship Committee will score all complete applications submitted to GPF. By submitting this application, I understand that if I withdraw from or fail to attend my college or university, the balance of the scholarship (or all in case of non-attendance) will be returned to the Georgia Pilot Foundation. 12 Information for Nominees for all GA District Anchor Offices Georgia District Anchor Officers consist of the Anchor President, President-Elect, Secretary, Convention Chairperson, and one (1) Chairperson from each region corresponding to the Georgia District Pilot Region (Northwest, Northeast, West Central, East Central, Southwest, and Southeast). Georgia District Anchor Executive Committee consists of the Georgia District Anchor officers, the Georgia District Pilot Anchor Coordinator, and the Assistant Anchor Coordinator. The Georgia District Governor and Governor-Elect shall be ex officio members. Qualifications for District Officers (from GA District Anchor Standing Rules): 1. The District Anchor President-Elect shall become the District Anchor President at the close of the term. (beginning July 1 following election) 2. A nominee for District Anchor President-Elect shall be a member in good standing from the nominating club and have at least two (2) full years of high school remaining. The person elected President-Elect will automatically assume the position of President at the end of the next year s convention. 3. A nominee for District Anchor Secretary shall be a member in good standing from the nominating club and have at least one (1) full year of high school remaining. 4. The Convention Chairperson shall be a member in good standing from the nominating club and have at least one (1) full year of high school remaining. 5. Nominees for District Anchor Regional Chairpersons shall be members in good standing from the nominating clubs and shall be elected for each region by the delegates of the respective regions. 6. Nominations for District Anchor Office must be submitted to the District Pilot Anchor Coordinator forty-five days before the District Anchor Convention and must give qualifications. 7. In the event no nominees are received for a given office, it will be the responsibility of the District Anchor Officers and Anchor Coordinator to secure a nominee for each office. 8. The term of office for President, President-Elect, Secretary, and Convention Chairperson shall be one (1) year. 9. Regional Chairpersons may serve no more than two (2) years. 10. A specified time and place shall be arranged for each nominee to be presented to the convention body. 11. Convention badges will denote nominees for District Office. 12. Nominees for any District office must be present at the Anchor convention at which they are elected to District office.

13 Responsibilities of District Officers: 1. The President presides at all district meetings including the District Anchor convention meeting. It is the President s responsibility to work closely with the District Anchor Coordinator in preparing the district newsletter to be published quarterly. 2. The President-Elect serves in the absence of the President. In the event the office of the President becomes vacant, the President-Elect automatically becomes President. The President-Elect will assist with planning and provide decorations for the banquet at which she/he is installed as President. 3. The Secretary is responsible for taking minutes at all district meetings. Minutes should be sent to the District Anchor Coordinator for approval and then distributed to all Executive Board members within 30 days of all meetings. It is the Secretary s responsibility to take roll and give the attendance report during the business session at District Convention. 4. The Convention Chair is responsible for working closely with the District Anchor Coordinator to prepare the convention program. It is the responsibility of the Convention Chair to open convention and make all announcements from the podium. 5. The Region Chairs are responsible for making contact with the Anchor Clubs in their region and acquiring club information to submit to the District Anchor Coordinator for the district newsletter, Anchor s Aweigh. The Region Chairs should be willing to volunteer for parts of the program during convention. 6. It will be the responsibility of all officers to contribute articles to the District Anchor Newsletter, Anchors Aweigh. 7. The in-coming District Anchor Executive Committee will attend a meeting at the close of each District Convention at the convention site. 8. Officers shall attend a meeting during the summer or early fall to review district business and make plans for the annual District Anchor Convention, preferably at the convention site. 9. The planning of District Convention is the responsibility of all District Officers. The Anchor District Officers serve in the place of the host club. Each officer will be responsibility for volunteering for the various jobs and task concerning convention selection of speakers, acquiring presenters for workshops, preparing parts in the program, T-shirt design, set-up and clean-up of activities, acquiring decorations, signs, etc. The officers should coordinate with their individual Anchor Club Advisors which task her/his club is willing to assume. 10. Officers will attend a meeting of the District Anchor Executive Committee on Friday evening prior to the District Anchor Convention at the convention site. 11. Term of office for each District Officer shall be one year beginning July 1 following District Convention and ending June 30 of the following year. 12. If any officer becomes disabled and/or mentally unable to perform the duties of the office, and such incapacity continues for a period of three (3) successive months, or if the officer is absent from any two (2) meetings of the Executive Committee, the officer automatically forfeits the office. 13. If there is no nominee for a given district office, it will be the responsibility of the District Anchor Coordinator to fill the position with an appointment. If a vacancy occurs in any office, other than President, then it shall be the duty of the Anchor Coordinator to fill such vacancy for the unexpired term by appointment.
