It covers a wide range of topics and distributions and is geared towards both end-users as Linux administrators. May 2008 now: elas Free Software project elas is a webapplications to manage LETS (Local Exchange and Trading System) groups. It was written in PHP with a MySQL backend and has a rich AJAX based interface. ELAS installations can be coupled through a SOAP interface. January 2008 September 2009: X-Tend Grimbergen X-Tend is part of the Cronos IT group and focuses on Linux and Open Source solutions for customers. August 2004 January 2008: Studiecentrum voor Kernenergie (SCKCEN) MOL The SCKCEN is the Belgian Nuclear Research Center (government funded and controlled). It does research in the nuclear area, but also into Decision Strategy and related information systems. SCK-CEN has a Linux Beowulf computing cluster with over 100 nodes. This cluster is used to simulate long-term nuclear reactions that help scientists in many ways, allowing them to plan ahead thousands of years for the effects of nuclear emergencies as well as building complete simulated research reactors. This project was initially started to build a virtual model of the next-generation Myhrra reactor.

5 It was my job to keep the cluster running, to plan and implement cluster expansions and to support all programs that ran on it (mostly nuclear codes coming from high profile institutes like Los Alamos). In addition, I managed several smaller Linux and Unix systems ranging from Apache webservers to Decision Support Systems. It's a company growing from a traditional publishing model to an online company with a wide range of online offerings with the golden pages as flagship product. As part of the online operations team and as the Linux systems architect, I was responsible for designing, implementing and maintaining the infrastructure behind those sites. Open-Future is building this project completely on top of a Drupal 6 stack. As the project leader, I analysed the requirements of the site together with the customer to build a complete set of initial requirements. With the expansion of their server park, these in-house scripts are no longer sufficient to manage their ever growing complex network. 7 the current functionality and what the options are to move away from custom development to using standardized tools like Puppet to enable the company to efficiently manage their server park, even if it would grow exponentially. I did the project management of the installation of the new server on virtual infrastructure (VMWare) and the migration of existing data in the Exchange database to the new groupware server. As with many companies, they were running MS- Exchange as their groupware platform. I was involved very early in the pre-sales phase of this project and guided the customer to their eventual choice of the Zarafa Collaboration Platform. Following the decision for this new system, I did the project management of the installation of the new server on virtual infrastructure (Xen on Linux) and the migration of existing data in the Exchange database to the new groupware server. To make optimal use of the available hardware, we recommended to implementation of a Linux based virtualization platform. I was the architect and project manager of the virtualization setup based on Red Hat Enterprise Linux and KVM with front-end nodes and redundant storage nodes (using DRDB). 8 * Allow users to submit news items and queue them for admin approval * Moved to SHA1 algorithm for new password hashes * RSS feed for messages Technologies: PHP, MySQL, Drupal Job: System administration on SuSE Linux Start: End: Company: Johnson & Johnson J & J has teams around the world to support their critical Linux infrastructure, mostly deployed on VMWare clusters in datacenters in nearly each country where J & J has offices. Most of the mission critical software at J & J runs on top of SuSE, Red Hat Linux or HP-UX I was part of the Belgian administration team, located in Beerse. Though this was a local team, we deployed and provided support for systems all over the world. The Antispam gateway is based on Spamtitan, a commercial product running on a FreeBSD operating system and totally manageable from our helpdesk. My main tasks where to implement the Zarafa Groupware solution (Exchange alternative running on Linux but using Outlook and MAPI protocol), installing and tuning the Spamtitan mail gateway. These run on RedHat machines with Apache webservers set up behind Citrix loadbalancers. My technical skills where needed to optimize the loadbalancers, to verify the different stats and to fine-tune the installation.
