1. INTRODUCTION 1.1 Purpose The topic of this document is to present the way to manage the N+1 redundancy system for the Vyper satellite modulators. The scenario described in this document is focused on the management of the ASI inputs and RF outputs of the modulators. TeamCast proposes a simple & efficient solution: a local switch process and a very fast switching time to be the best transparent as possible. 1.2 Audience This document has been written for customers who have to use, to integrate and to install the redundancy solution for the Vyper Satellite modulators. Some chapters require some prerequisite knowledge in electronics and in SNMP standard. 1.3 Overview Teamcast proposes a N+1 switching system based on the DEV switching unit. One backup modulator can protect up to 8 modulators in a standalone mode. However, a Network Manager System (NMS) can be added to have a global overview of the redundancy system behavior, to monitor the system. This NMS is not mandatory to control the switch process from MAIN to BACKUP modulator. 1.4 Covered products Product family Product references Type Vyper XSSR-VYPx U rack DVB-S/DSNG/S2/S2X IF and L-Band outputs modulator, Confidentiel TeamCast Page 4/24

3. Architecture The minimum required to setup the standalone N+1 redundancy system below is: 1 switching unit, N+1 Vyper Satellite modulators, N main and 1 backup, ASI, RF and Ethernet cables. Figure 1: 1+1 redundancy system A dedicated LAN (Ethernet) connection is done between the N+1 modulators and the switching unit. All these elements could be connected to a supervisor (Network Management System) to have a remote overview of the system. This solution is able to protect up to 8 modulators in IF-Band or L-Band configuration. The ordering information is available hereafter: XSSR-VYP0-2502: DVB-S/DSNG/S2 Modulator IF & L-Band output 1U Rack XSSR-DE4I-1992: 4+1 IF-Band switching unit ASI & RF switching 3U rack XSSR-DE4L-1992: 4+1 L-Band switching unit ASI & RF switching 3U rack XSSR-DE8I-1992: 8+1 IF-Band switching unit ASI & RF switching 3U rack XSSR-DE8L-1992: 8+1 L-Band switching unit ASI & RF switching 3U rack 3.1 XSSR-DExx-1992 switching unit The switching unit is delivered in a 19" 3 RU chassis, which provides at the front side: device panel for quick configuration & monitoring, two hot-pluggable power supply modules. 14 4. Software Configuration 4.1 Vyper Satellite Modulators The units can be remotely control with a Web Browser or SNMP. The default IP configuration is: Ethernet port 1: o IP address: o Network mask: o Gateway address: Ethernet port 2: o IP address: o Network mask: o Gateway address: To log in on the web browser, use: login: admin password: root The following sections summarize the different steps to configure the N+1 modulators General panel This General panel is described below in Figure 13. On this panel, the user must: verify that the N+1 modulators embed the same firmware version, configure the new IP parameters on the N+1 modulators to build the local Ethernet network: different IP addresses belonging to the same sub network, setup the Trap configuration on the N main modulators: o activate the Trap, o configure the destination IP address with the switching unit IP address, o Change the Trap port if necessary, Until end of the document, the IP addresses will be: Backup modulator: Main modulator 1: Main modulator 2: Main modulator 3: Main modulator 4: XSSR-DExx-1992 Switching unit: Confidentiel TeamCast Page 14/24
4.1.2 Config panel Figure 13: General panel of Main modulator 1 This section only concerns the N main modulators. This panel allows the user to setup the specific configuration for the N main modulators concerning the inputs, modulation and outputs parameters. Please refer to [D1] for more details Profiles panel Once the configuration done on all main modulators, the user must: 1. store the configuration in a specific profile, Confidentiel TeamCast Page 15/24
2. export the N profiles on the PC hard drive. In case of failure, these profiles will be used to configure the backup modulator. On the backup modulator, the N different profiles should be imported from the PC hard drive. We should see on the backup modulator the following figure for N=4: Alarm panel Figure 14: Profiles panel of the backup modulator This section only concerns the N main modulators. This panel lists the different alarms that the product is able to monitor. The user must enable Trap notification on alarms he wants to monitor to initiate a switch. In the example below, the user selects all the General Alarms and only 2 product alarms: ASI input synchronization with critical severity RF output status with critical severity Confidentiel TeamCast Page 16/24

The default IP configuration of the Ethernet port is: IP address: Network mask: Gateway address: To log in on the web browser, use: login: ADMIN password: ADMIN Confidentiel TeamCast Page 17/24
The switching unit manages the N+1 standalone system with the SNMP protocol on the local Ethernet network. Thanks to its TRAC feature, the unit is able to send SNMP set on reception of TRAP. The following sections summarize the different steps to configure the N+1 modulators. The switch unit version used for this paper is detailed in the figure hereafter System setup Figure 16: XSSR-DExx-1992 Info Panel As previously done for the modulators, the IP parameters should be changed to fit the Ethernet network IP characteristics. Until end of the document, we will keep these default IP parameters for the switching unit. Figure 17: XSSR-DExx-1992 System Setup Confidentiel TeamCast Page 18/24
4.2.2 Switching actions The user must define the actions the switching unit must execute on reception of a defined TRAP notification. An action is basically a load of a profile on the backup modulator thanks to a SNMP set. One action is configured for each main modulator: SNMP set on OID with string parameter Profile_Main_1, SNMP set on OID with string parameter Profile_Main_2, SNMP set on OID with string parameter Profile_Main_3, SNMP set on OID with string parameter Profile_Main_4. The figure below shows the final configuration of 4 actions with: SNMP parameters of the backup modulators and the status LED, Definition of the SNMP OID set. Figure 18: XSSR-DExx-1992 Switching Actions TRAC Setup TRAC stands for "Trap Receiver Action Controller" and is a powerful feature enabling the device to execute Switching Actions (please refer to 4.2.2) based on received SNMP traps. The figure below shows the configuration of TRAP reception condition corresponding respectively to the 4 main modulators. In the example, all Trap received from the main modulator 1 ( ) with critical severity ( OID = 3) and alarm on ( OID = 1) will generate the action switch_main_1. When the Source IP LED is not green, it could be necessary to restart the switching unit. Confidentiel TeamCast Page 19/24
4.2.4 IP Monitor Figure 19: XSSR-DExx-1992 TRAC setup IP Monitor feature is able to detect specific failure (power failure, switch off, Ethernet link loss ) on the main modulators thanks to ICMP protocol. Like the previous feature, a switching action is linked to this failure event. When the Destination IP LED is not green, it could be necessary to restart the switching unit. The figure below shows the IP Monitor configuration Data Backup Figure 20: XSSR-DExx-1992 IP Monitor setup The configuration process previously described can be quickly setup by using the Data Backup feature. The backup file is available on request and can be easily imported in the Data Backup panel described below. Confidentiel TeamCast Page 20/24
5. Operation Figure 21: XSSR-DExx-1992 Data Backup 5.1 XSSR-DExx-1992 Modes of operation The switching unit can be configured in 3 different modes: Local Mode, Remote Mode, Auto Mode. Note: The operation mode can be changed with the mode push button of the device panel, via Web Interface, and via SNMP. The factory default for the operation mode is Remote Mode Local Mode In Local Mode the device executes commands, which are issued via push button actions at the device panel, or (also in parallel) via Web Interface. The communication to the SNMP remote interface is disabled for modifying the settings of the device and for switching commands, but open for surveillance and status queries Remote Mode The Remote Mode is implemented for the operation via SNMP. In Remote Mode the status of the product is still indicated via the LEDs on the device and via Web Interface, but the buttons on the device panel are locked and the control functionality of the Web Interface is disabled. Confidentiel TeamCast Page 21/24
5.1.3 Auto Mode The Auto Mode is used for the TRAC functionality of the Web Interface. It is the required mode to control automatically the N+1 modulators. As in Remote Mode, the status of the device is still indicated via the LEDs on the device and via Web Interface, but the buttons on the device panel are locked and the control functionality of the Web Interface is disabled. The communication to the SNMP remote interface is disabled for modifying the settings of the device and for switching commands, but open for status and surveillance queries. During Redundancy Operation, the system will be controlled in Auto Mode. During installation & maintenance operations, the system will be controlled in Local Mode. 5.2 Nominal State The nominal state is shown hereafter: the switch is waiting for a failure of a MAIN modulator: 5.3 Failure State Figure 22: XSSR-DExx-1992 Nominal State The failure state is shown hereafter: a failure was detected on the 2 nd main modulator. 5.4 Maintenance operation Figure 23: XSSR-DExx-1992 Failure State 1.
