4 Assist with transition into the college culture and environment Orient students to available services Integrate students into a community of students and faculty Particularly supports needs of students taking online and distance education courses Rovai, A. P. (2003). In search of higher persistence rates in distance education online programs Jasig Sakai Conference 4

23 The array of technology would have been overwhelming without some guidance. New laptops, new ipads, new networks, new printers and an impossibly long list of new sites (ISIS, MyUFL, elearning, Sakai, Gatorlink, MyLab, Xanedu, TurnIn, Elluminate, etc.) was a lot to digest in one weekend. The opportunity to connect with our cohort outside of the classroom. The hands on walk through of the hardware and software and the time spent to make sure we understood the expectations and the opportunity. Emphasis on networking and team-building both within the class as a whole and individual working group 2012 Jasig Sakai Conference 23
24 Having hardware orientation and software orientation split up into two days. I would rather see all technology done in one day and course lectures on another. Since I was already familiar with hardware/software, a lot of information was not new to me. Too much time spent on a few issues, and it may be possible to work with small groups and let others advance Jasig Sakai Conference 24
