2 The NIHR The National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) is funded by the Department of Health to improve the health and wealth of the nation through clinical research. It provides a world-class infrastructure for health research and represents one of the most integrated health research systems in the world It can be considered as the research arm of the National Health Service (NHS).
