6 BULLETIN OF INFORMATION FOR ADMISSION TO POST GRADUATE COURSES (MAIN CAMPUS) Procedure for Admission Candidates seeking admission to different Post-Graduate Courses in Arts, may apply for registration ONLINE: 2. Eligibility Conditions: Candidates desirous of seeking admission to M.A. Courses must fulfil the requisite conditions of having passed the examinations with the prescribed percentage of marks as detailed in Appendix I. If the course is not equivalent to Delhi University such candidates would be required to fill up the prescribed equivalence form along with all documents and a copy of authenticated syllabus of the University from which he/she has passed the examination. (i) (ii) (iii) Rounding off a fraction of marks for purposes of admission to any Course is not admissible. Candidates who do not fulfill the eligibility requirements shall not be registered and no request for relaxation in the minimum eligibility requirement shall be entertained. Candidates who have passed their B.A.(Hons) or equivalent examination under Scheme of examination of Delhi University or an examination recognized as equivalent thereto, if eligible would be registered to the M.A. Arts Courses for the Academic Session under direct admission. Other students have to appear in the Entrance Exam for admission. Candidates are advised to peruse the information provided for each subject about the minimum marks required for eligibility. However, the candidates having passed their first degree examination prior to 1985 will be treated as per with the present three years degree course. (A.C. Resolution No. 137 dated ). Further, where the applicants have done their graduation under 14 years scheme but have M.A. first year/ll.b./b.e. (Degree) etc. Examination after graduation, they will be deemed to have put in 15 years of study but their eligibility be determined on the basis of marks obtained at the qualifying Examination (A.C. Resolution No. 034 (6) dt ). (iv) If any irregularity is detected after declaration of merit list/issue of Admission card, before or after depositing the Fee, the admission of such candidates will be cancelled without any reference to him/her. 3. Evening Classes The following M.A. Courses are also taught in the Evening Classes in the Main Campus. 1. M.A. Urdu Department of Urdu, University of Delhi, Delhi 7 2. M.A. Persian Department of Persian, University of Delhi, Delhi M.A. Hindi and Philosophy Zakir Husain PG (E) College, Jawaharlal Nehru Marg New Delhi 2 Candidate seeking admission to Evening Classes are required to produce a certificate of employment and work experience of atleast one year from anyone of the following. 1. Government Office 2. Public Undertakings 3. Statutory/Autonomeus Bodies of the Central/StateGovernment 4. Private Limited Companies 6

Enrolment in the Non-Collegiate Women s Education Board (NCWEB) (i) There will be a common online registration for the candidates apllying for admission under Category -II i.e. through entrance test. (ii) For admission under Category-I, i.e. 'Direct Admission', the candidates shall register themselves for admission separately. 5. Enrolment in the School of Open Learning (SOL): (i) There will be common online registration for the candidates applying for admission under Category -II i.e. through entrance test. (ii) For admission under Category-I, i.e. 'Direct Admission', the candidates shall register themselves for admission separately. 6. Admission for Foreign Students: Foreign students seeking admission to various courses are required to apply to the Foreign Students Advisor/ Foreign Students Registry, University of Delhi, Delhi 7, who will process their applications for admissions in the Colleges/Departments directly. 7. Reservation of seats for the Childern/Widows/Wives of the officers and Men of the Armed Forces including Para Military personnel killed or disabled in action: 5% of the total number of seats in each course are reserved for the Children/Widows/Wives of the Officers and Men of the Armed Forces including Para Military Personnel (i) Killed in action, (ii) Disabled in action, (iii) Died while on duty, (iv) Disabled on duty and (v) Wards of Ex - servicemen personnel and serving personnel of the Defence/Armed Forces and all Police Forces who are in receipt of Gallantry Awards. Relaxation to the extent of 5% marks in the minimum eligibility requirement in the aggregate or in the subject as the case may be, will be given to the candidates of the above mentioned categories while determining their eligibility for admission to appear in admission test. In order to become eligible for the above concession, Children/Widow/Wives of Officers and Jawans etc. are required to produce the entitlement certificates issued by any of the following: 1. Secretary, Kendriya Sainik Board, Delhi 2. Secretary, Rajay/Zila Sainik Board 3. Officer-in-charge, Record Office 4. 1 st Class Stipendiary Magistrate For purposes of registration, the candidates are required to submit their application forms on a prescribed form available at the Registration Centers, along with the self attested copies as well as the original of the required certificates. The original certificates will be returned to them after verification. 8. ADMISSION OF SPORTS/ECA PERSONS Upto 5% seats of the total number of seats of courses in all the disciplines, except the courses of Faculities of Medicine, Engineering, Technology and Management Studies of the University shall be reserved for admission under the sports category at the Post-Graduate level. Students seeking admission under the sports/eca category shall apply directly to the DUSC. The DUSC shall organize trials in different games and sports and declare the list of candidates eligible for admission under the sports category. The students seeking admission under the sports category will be required to take the entrance examination, if any, to be conducted by the Department/Institution/Centre concerned. However, the Department/Institute/Centre shall prepare a separate merit list of candidates seeking admission under the sports category on the basis of the result of the entrance examination. 7

Residential/Hostel Accomodation All candidates seeking admission to hostel in the University are required to appear in the entrance test even if they are eligible for admission under direct category. The merit list to the Hostels will be drawn solely on the basis of performance in the entrance test. The University has limited residential accommodation in Colleges and University Hostels. The Colleges provide accommodation to both Under-Graduate and Post-Graduate students enrolled with them. In the Main Campus the following colleges provide Hostel accommodation to their students: 1 For Men St. Stephen College, Hindu College, Hans Raj College, Kirori Mal College, Ramjas College, Shri Ram College of Commerce and Zakir Husain Delhi College. 2 For Women Miranda House, Daulat Ram College and I.P. College. 3 For Men and Women- Delhi School of Social Work (Deptt. of Social Work) and Central Institute of Education (Deptt. of Education) 4 For Post-Graduate, M.Phil. and Ph.D. students of different Faculties (in Main and South Campus) except those Faculties which have their own Hostels are considered for admission to the following University Hostels: (i) For Men 1. B.A. (Hons.) examination in Arabic of the University of Delhi or an Examination recognized as equivalent thereto. 2. B.A. (Pass) examination of University of Delhi or an Examination recognized as equivalenttheretowith atleast3papersinarabic at B.A. level. 3. B.A. Examination of the University of Delhi or an Examination recognized as equivalent thereto and also Maulvi Fazil Arabic of the University/Board recognized for this purpose. 45% marks (i) 45% marks in the aggregate or (ii) 45% marks in the aggregate and 50% marks in the subject. 50% marks in the aggregate 4. Honours examination in Arabic language 50% marks in Honours Examination and and have been awarded the Degree under B.A. Degree. Clause 8 (d) of the Punjab University. 5. M.A. / M.Com./ M.Sc. Examination of the University of Delhi or an Exam recognized as equivalent thereto. 6. B.A. (Hons.)/(Pass)/B.com. (Hons.)/ (Pass)/ B.Sc. (Hons)/ (Gen.)/ B.U.M.S. Unani Medicine (Fazil -e- tibb-wa Jarajat) of the University of Delhi or an Examination recognized as equivalent thereto. 50% marks in aggregate in Master s Degree provided passing the advanced Diploma Examination in Arabic of the Delhi University or an. equivalent Examination thereto with 50% in aggregate. 50% marks in aggregate provided passing the Advanced Diploma Examination in Arabic of the Delhi University or an equivalent Examination thereto with 50% in aggregate. Note: (i) The student seeking admission under category 3,4,5 and 6 will be admitted after passing a written and oral test of B.A. (Pass) standard. Such students should get at least 50% marks in the examination. 9

10 M.A. BENGALI (In order of Preference) Course requirements 1. B.A. (Hons.) Bengali Examination of the University of Delhi or an examination recognized as equivalent thereto in the respective subject (Bengali). 2. B.A. (Pass) Examination of the University of Delhi or an Examination recognized as equivalent thereto with atleast two papers in Bengali. 3. M. A. (in any subject) examination of the university of Delhi or an examination recognized as equivalent thereto with atleast two papers in Bengali the graduate level. 4. B.A. (Hons.) Examination in any subject (Arts or Social Sciences) of the University of Delhi or an Examination recognized as equivalent thereto with at least one paper in Bengali as a subsidiary subject at the graduate level. Minimum Marks Requirements 45% marks 45% marks in aggregate and 50% Marks in the subject. 50% marks in aggregate and 55% marks in the subject (subject to passing an eligibility test in Bengali to be held by the Deptt.) 40% marks in aggregaate and 45% marks in the subject (Subject to passing an eligibility test in Bengali to be held by the Department) Note: The admission of M.A. Bengali for 20 Seats out of total 25 Seats will be done in the Department from the academic year and the remaining seats i.e. 05 Seats will be done in Miranda House (for Girls). 10

11 M.A. BUDDHIST STUDIES (In order of Preference) Course requirements Minimum Marks Requirements 1. Bachelor s Honours Degree 40% marks in aggregate in any subject from Delhi University. 2. Master s Degree in any subject from Delhi 40% marks in aggregate University. 3. Bachelor s Degree in any subject from Delhi 45% marks in aggregate University or any other recognized University 4. Master s Degree in any subject 45% marks in aggregate from any recognized University other than Delhi University. Important: Those who have passed of Buddhist Studies as a subject at Grduate Level and/or have done certificate/diploma course in Pali, Sanskrit, Tibbetan Chinese, Japnese, Korean, Prakrit, Archeology and epigraphy shall be given weightage of 5% Marks in Mimum Eligibility Requirements. Note: The candidates pertaining to different categories are required to obtain following minimum qualifying marks in the Entrance Exam for Admission to M.A. (Buddhist Studies): Category GENERAL 40 % OBC 36 % PWD/SC/ST 30 % Minimum Marks (%) to be Obtained After the Entrance Exam, a merit list will be prepared on the basis of marks secured by the candidates for admission as well as for Hostel accommodation purposes. Candidates getting less than the minimum prescribed marks in the Entrance Exam shall not qualify for Admission to M.A. in Buddhist Studies. Pattern of Entrance Exam : 1. The Entrance Exam to be conducted for admission to M.A. in Buddhist Studies shall consist of both descriptive as well as objective type questions in the ratio of 60:40 respectively. Questions will be drawn largely from the book 2500 years of Buddhism Edited by P. V. Bapat (cks¼ /ez ds 2500 o"kz laiknd ih ch ckiv). On the basis of this Entrance Exam result, a merit list shall be prepared by the Department Admission Committee. 2. Duration of the Entrance Exam: 3 Hours 3. B.A. (Hons) in any Indian Language or English 55% marks or above or Comparative Literature of the University of Delhi or an examination recognized as equivalent thereto in the respective subject. 2. B.A. (Pass) of the University of Delhi or an 60% marks or above examination recognized as equivalent thereto with at least three papers in any Indian language or English. 3. B.A. (Hons.) in any Indian Language or English 50% marks or above or Comparative Literature of University of Delhi or an examination recognized as equivalent thereto in the respective subject. 4. B.A. (Pass) of the University of Delhi or an 55% marks or above examination recognized as equivalent thereto with at least three papers in any Indian Language or English. 5. M.A. in any Indian Language or English from 50% marks or above Delhi University or any other examination recognized as equivalent thereto. 6. Any graduate of the University of Delhi or any 55% marks or above other examination recognized as equivalent thereto provided he/she passes in a qualifying test which would be organized by the Department to test the candidate s aptitude for basic Knowledge of Indian Literature. M.A. ENGLISH Category I : Direct Admission i.e. without Entrance Test Course Requirements (a) B.A. (Hons.) Examination in English from University of Delhi from 2011 onwards. Category II : Admission Through Entrance Test Course Requirements Minimum Marks Requirements At least 60% & above marks for General category and 54% & above marks for OBC/ SC/ST/PwD and CW categories Minimum Marks Requirements (i) B.A. (Hons.) Examination in English of the University of Delhi. At least 45% & above marks for General category and 40.5% for OBC and 40% PwD and CW categories. 12

13 (ii) Bachelor s Degree from a recognized Indian At least 50% & above marks in aggregate University. for General category and 45% & above marks in aggregate for OBC/PwD and CW categories (iii) For SC/ST candidates: (iv) Minimum pass marks of the qualifying examination concerned of the University of Delhi.. Or at least the same percentage of pass marks at the qualifying examination as prescribed for equivalent examination of Delhi University. 40% & above marks in entrance test conducted by the Department for General Category and 36% & above for OBC candidates. At least 35% marks in the Entrance Test for PwD/CW. No minimum marks in the Entrance Test for SC/ST candidates. Note: INFORMATION FOR CANDIDATES 1. Note for candidates seeking Direct Admission: (i) (ii) Please note that securing 60% (or above) in B.A. Honours from University of Delhi does not automatically ensure admission or the availability of the colleges of your choice. Direct Admission will be given on the basis of a separate Merit List and will be subject to the availability of seats. Therefore, all candidates seeking Direct Admission are also strongly advised to appear for the Entrance Test. A candidate who secures Direct Admission will not be considered for admission through Entrance Test (even if her name appears in the Merit List prepared on the basis of the performance in the Entrance Test). (iii) Notwithstanding (ii) above, a student who is shortlisted for both Direct Admission and admission through Entrance Test will be allowed to exercise her choice in case such a choice enables her to get the campus of her preference. On the basis of their performance (with a minimum pass percentage of 40% in the admission test) candidates, (not more than five times the number of seats available) in order of merit, will be called for an interview. Candidates called for interview will be required to produce all their original certificates/degree, marksheets of Secondary School, Senior Secondary, B.A./B.Sc. Pass or Honours and M.A. Examination etc. and other connected documents for verification at the time of interview/admissions. Admission Lists will be prepared on the basis of academic record (30% weightage) performance in the admission test (50% weightage) and interview (20% weightage). For determaning the academic record performance percentage of Bachelor Degree Examination or the Master s Degree Examination, whichever is best, will be taken into consideration. The decision of the Linguistics Department Admission Committee will be final and binding on all the candidates. Examiantion with advanced diploma examination in Modern Persian with 55% marks subject to satisfactory performance in a written test and interview conducted, by the department. 40% marks in the aggregate at the degree level examination and 55% marks in Advanced Diploma course in Modern Persian and subject to satisfactory performance in a written test and interview conducted by the Department. 1. In categories 2 and 6, if the student has appeared in more than two papers in Persian the best two will be taken into consideration for the sake of the aggregate. 2. For purpose of admission to the M.A. Course the students of one year special certificate course of Delhi University in the subject concerned will be treated at par with the candidates who have passed the Honours Courses under scheme of education from Delhi University. 17

Minimum Marks Requirement 55% marks or above in aggregate. M.A. PHILOSOPHY Category-A It was resolved that students of Delhi University who have done B.A. (Hons.) in Philosophy shall be admitted directly if they have obtained 55% marks and above in aggregate. But candidates desirous of Hostel accommodation need to appear the admission test if it held. Category-B For all others the eligibility for applying for admission shall be 50% in aggregate in the Bachelor Degree (or qualifying examination) for open category candidates. In case of OBC candidates the eligibility criteria shall be 45% in aggregate in the qualifying Examination Note : However, the admission test shall be conducted if and only if the number of applicants exceeds the number of seats allotted. In case there is no admission test then the merit list shall be drawn as per the following criteria. Also the same criteria shall apply for hostel admission as well. Delhi University or an Examination recognized as equivalent thereto. Admission procedure and entrance test: 1. The test will be conducted by the Department of Punjabi. 2. Apart from fulfilling the minimum eligibility requirements given in the list above, a candidate will have to secure at least 40% marks in the entrance test to be eligible for admission which will be strictly according to merit on the basis of the candidates perfomance in the written test. 3. There will be one common entrance test for the North Campus and Non- collegiate Women s Education Board (NCWEB). The test will be held in the Department of Punjabi, North Campus, Arts Faculty Building. 4. Candidates seeking admission to MA (Punjabi) are required to register themselves at the Department of Punjabi (North Campus) They should however, indicate their choice for the North Campus or N.C.W.E.B. in order of preference, in. the column of the prescribed registration form. 5. Candidates seeking admission to the NCWEB under the Test category can register themselves at the North Campus along with other candidates. 6. The candidates should affix duly attested copies of their recent photograph on the forms as well as on the counterfoil of the form. These photograph should be signed by the candidates, the counterfoil will be used as identification slip for the entrance test. No separate admission ticket ofthe entrance test will be issued. 7. The admission test would be designed to test the candidates proficiency in Punjabi language including comprehension and writing skills and their knowledge of Punjabi literature and its background. The test would be in two parts. Part-I would consist largely of Objective Type Questions and Part-II of questions requiring the candidates to write short notes or essays. The duration ofthe test would be 90 minutes. I. Direct Admission M.A. SANSKRIT (In order of preference) B.A. (Hons.) Sanskrit of the University of Delhi, with minimum 60% marks. II. Through Admission Test. Eligibility criteria for appearing in the admission test. 1. B.A. (Hons.) Sanskrit from recognized University with minimum 40% marks. 2. B.A. (Pass)/B.A. (Programme) or BA (Hons.) in Hindi of the University of Delhi or any reco gnised university with at least two papers of Sanskrit with 40% marks in aggregate. 3. Acharya (Sanskrit) examination of recognized University/Deemed University and Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan with minimum 50% in marks in aggregate. 4. Shastri (Sanskrit) examination of recognized Universit y/deemed University/Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan with minimum 50% in aggregate. 5. B.A. (Hons.) examination in any subject of the Delhi University of an examination recognized as equivalent thereto with Sanskrit as subsidiary/ concurrent subject with minimum 50% in Hons. and minimum 60% in Sanskrit. Subsidiary/Cuncurrent Subject. 6. M.A. examination in Arts and Humanities (except Sanskrit) Subject from University of Delhi with minimum 50% marks in aggregate 20

21 7. Master s degree in any subject from a recognized University with Diploma in Sanskrit of the University of Delhi with minimum 50% in aggregated and 50% in Sanskrit Diploma. 8. Bachelor s degree of any recognized University and having a Diploma Sanskrit from Delhi University with minimum 50% marks in aggregate and 50% marks in Diploma examination Note: Students securing 60% and above marks in admission Test will be admitted to MA (Sanskrit) course according to merit list on the basis of seats available. Date and rules of M.A. (Sanskrit) entrance examination (1) The examination will consist of 100 marks and the time given would be 2:30 hours. (2) Only those students would be provided with admit card for the entrance test who fulfill the qualifications prescribed. (3) The merit list for hostel admission will be prepared on the basis of admission Test. Those students who wish to apply in hostels would have to appear for the written Test. Course content for M.A. (Sanskrit) Admission/test The admission will be based on the level of B.A. (Hons.) Sanskrit examinationin subjects like Literature, Grammar, Philosophy etc. The Test will be also includes question from contemporary subject based on General Knowledge.
