1 UTTAR PRADESH RAJARSHI TANDON OPEN UNIVERSITY ALLAHABAD Ph.D. Programme in UPRTOU Online application for UPRTOU- Ph.D. Entrance test 1- For Ph.D. Entrance Test candidate has to login university website uprtou.ac.in for filling the online entrance form. 2- Candidate has to fill the entrance test form and pay the fee through e-chalan / Net banking/debit card/credit card etc. 3- Candidate can download his admit card before one week from the date of Entrance Test by the university website www. uprotu.ac.in 4- After the declaration of entrance test result the candidate qualified for admission as per the prescribed norms, had to again login university website and fill the admission form accordingly. (ii) Ph.D. in English, Sanskrit, computer Science, Journalism & Mass communication, Political Science, Social work and Philosophy shall be subject to availability of research supervisors. 2. Eligibility: A candidate who has qualified for the award of the master s Degree of any University or any other qualification recognized as equivalent there to in such field of study as notified for this purpose form time to time by the University will be eligible to register for Ph.D. programmes provided he/she has secured at least 55% marks (50% in the case of SC/ST candidates) or a grade equivalent thereto, at examinations leading to such a degree/ qualification. 3. Entrance Test: There shall be one paper in Ph.D. Entrance Test containing two sections- Section A: 10 Short Answer Questions: 50 Marks (Questions related to reasoning & mental ability, research, quantitative aptitude, general awareness /knowledge etc. which an average P.G. Degree holder is expected to posses, shall be included in this section. 10 Questions of 05 Marks each (To be answered in about 75 words each) Section B: Two essay type questions of 25 marks each 50 Marks (To be answered in not more than 600 words each) (For subjective syllabi plese see University website) However, JRF/ Net/ UPSLET/ CSIR qualified candidates shall be exempted from the entrance test ( i.e. step I of the selection process only) but they have to apply for Ph.D. Programme by filling the entrance test form and paying the

3 requisite entrance test fees as per schedule. They shall be directly qualified to be considered for the step II of the selection process. 4. Selection Process Step I UPRTOU Ph.D. Entrance Test will be merely an eligibility for selection process for Ph.D. programme. For this the candidate has to obtain marks in Entrance Test as under: i- For General Category candidates - 50% marks ii- For OBC Category candidates - 45% marks iii- For SC/ST Category candidates - 40% marks Step II As per availability of seats, admission shall be given to the candidates on the basis of merit list. Final Synopsis: Three copies of synopsis duly forwarded by the proposed supervisor and Jointsupervisor (if any) have to be submitted between 3 to 6 month from the data of RDC. Each page of the synopsis must be signed by the candidate and the supervisor both. The synopsis must include (i) the title of the problem, (ii) the need of study, (iii) the review of related literature, (iv) the methodology, (v) the data sources, and (vi) the bibliography. 6.
