2 About LIFE Established in July 2001, Lingnan Institute of Fur ther Education (LIFE) of fer s a variety of self-financed programmes that range from Diploma Yi Jin, Diploma, Higher Diploma, Professional Diploma, to collaborative Bachelor s programmes with overseas universities. As a unit of continuing education within Lingnan University, LIFE is committed to providing quality education to cater to different needs, aspirations and abilities of learners; and to spearheading and coordinating development in the areas of continuing and lifelong education for Lingnan University. 3 Excellent Teaching and Learning Support, Facilities and Services Teaching Commencement Teaching and Learning Activity Medium of Instruction Assessment September / October every year Courses are designed and coordinated by the University of Stirling. Web-based learning platform and materials are provided by University of Stirling. Teaching activities include Face to Face teaching in Hong Kong by Teaching Faculty of the University of Stirling to co-teach one module in each semester and lectures conducted by local lecturers of LIFE. Normally there are 12 to 15 face-to-face contact hours per week. Class, assessments and course materials are in English. Assessments are designed to measure learning outcomes effectively, which includes individual assignment, group project, business report, presentation and examination. Learning Support Consultation Service Pre-sessional Workshop Support and Services Facilities and Services Teaching Venue Sports Facilities Student Medical and Dental Scheme Academic support is provided through consultation meetings with local lecturers and academic advising by programme leader. Optional pre-sessional workshops are provided to prepare students for undergraduate-level studies in English. Workshop topics include Memorization skills for learning, Discussion skills for group project, Presentation skills, Academic Journal search and reading, Writing argument, Writing executive summary and a lot more. 5 The Course This course helps you to develop skills essential for a career in modern business and management. Successful management depends on understanding the complete business system and the interactions of customers, suppliers and resources. develops the skills and the analytical approach in relation to business systems in a range of environments including: industrial, commercial, service and public sector. Students will gain an understanding of the internal functions and structures of organisations as well as the contexts within which business operates. One of the skills developed is the ability to assess project risk (financial, technical and commercial), take an overall systems view and to make decisions that optimise desired objectives. students also need to be able to communicate well. Business development plans need to be supported by engaging presentations to sell their ideas. Students will develop a wide range of skills: making presentations, report writing, working in teams and familiarity with modern information technology. Preparation for Work During the degree, students participate in a personal and professional development module with a focus on developing key skills that employers are looking for, as well as helping students prepare for, and make the effective transition into the workplace. Students are taught using a variety of methods such as lectures, seminars and interactive lecture/group discussion sessions. 7 The Course As you progress through your Marketing degree, you will have the opportunity to develop the following practical skills and attributes that are much sought after by prospective employers: Communication the various essays, reports, examinations and presentations required throughout your studies will develop your ability to communicate effectively in a business setting. Team Work working in a group is an essential part of your Marketing degree, both during business simulation activities, as well as group debates and undertaking live research projects for local businesses. This also builds on successful negotiation and influencing skills. Research and analysis these skills develop as you progress through each semester of your course, culminating is a significant piece of research for your Honours dissertation. By the time you graduate you ll be able to write marketing research proposals for both commercial and academic purposes. Business/commercial awareness through case study analysis, guest lectures and live projects with local employers, you will develop and understanding of what is going on in the business sector and the wider environment that organizations operate within. Assignments are designed to enable you to draw on your personal experiences and apply your learning directly to the business world. 8 Minimum Admission Requirements In order to be eligible for admission to the programmes, students have to be graduates of: Higher Diploma in relevant disciplines, or Associate Degree in relevant disciplines, or Equivalent qualifications taught by English. Applications will be selected on the basis of academic merits. Shortlisted candidates may be required to attend an interview. Requirement for English Proficiency Successful completion of a Higher Diploma, Associate Degree or an equivalent qualification, where the language of instruction was English, or Achieved an Academic IELTS of 6.0 with no band score below 5.5, or Equivalent qualifications.
