2 WELCOME We would like to extend to you a warm welcome on behalf of our shelter. We hope that you will take pride in your service here. This handbook will familiarize you with our policies. Please let us know if there are questions or concerns that you have. We hope that you will enjoy your service here and that you will find your time with us to be rewarding and challenging. 3 VOLUNTEER GUIDELINES 1. All volunteers will report to the shelter director, the shelter operations manager, or the clerk when they arrive at the shelter. At this time they will be instructed as to what assignments they will have during the day. 2. Volunteers may handle the animals ONLY when they are authorized to do so by the person in charge of that area. They must first check with that person to make sure the animal is not vicious, wild, or sick, before they attempt to hold the animal. Under no circumstances are volunteers to open the cages of any animals that are clearly marked as Rabies Suspect, Wild, Sick, or Vicious. Any violation of this rule will mean you may no longer work at this facility. 3. As a volunteer, you are to be supportive of Baldwin County Animal control Center and our employees, and any attempt made to disrupt our daily routine by being negative or rude will not be tolerated. We have a lot of people coming into our facility everyday, and we want them to have a positive impression of us and our organization. 4. Please understand that Baldwin County Animal Control Center did not cause the problem of unwanted animals, and it is our responsibility to euthanize animals. 5. When someone comes into the shelter to look for a lost animal or to look for an animal to adopt, it is the role of the shelter staff to show these people around the facility. 6. Please feel free to ask questions, and learn about the Baldwin County Animal Control Center and what we do here.

4 7. Appropriate dress is required at the shelter for volunteers. No sandals, open-toed shoes, bare midriff showing, shorts, or logo T-shirts that are obscene or offensive to other people will be permitted at the Baldwin County Animal Control Center. 8. Remember what cage the animal came out of. If you re not sure, ask! 9. Unless instructed otherwise, do not sit in shelter office when you are not busy.

If I have questions, I understand that I should talk to the Director. Further, I understand; This handbook represents a brief summary of some of the more important shelter guidelines. This shelter retains the sole right to change, modify, suspend, interpret, or cancel in whole or in part any of the published or unpublished policies or practices. 8 VOLUNTEER ORIENTATION In order for our operations at the shelter to run smoothly and the staff to do their jobs properly the following guidelines must be followed: **Always put pets back in kennel they came out of** Take no one to the stray area unless authorized by shelter employee Do not discuss the animals that are in the stray area with anyone. Do not walk or take these dogs or cats out If you see someone going into the stray area alert the front desk immediately If you see an animal without food/water or needs cleaning, please tell someone at the front desk. We will make arrangements If anyone has questions about the operations of the shelter refer them to the front desk to Environmental Supervisor Please do not hang out around the front desk. This may hinder the other workers from performing their duties or people wanting to adopt an animal.
