1 2017 High School Scholarship Application Purpose: Machias Savings Bank will award a one-time $500 scholarship to sixteen (16) Maine 2016 graduating high school seniors pursuing a two or four-year college degree in any major at a certified institution of higher education. Eligibility Requirements: Applicants must reside or attend high school within the market areas of Machias Savings Bank. Graduating high school applicants must be full-time students pursuing a two or four-year degree program in any major at a certified institution of higher education. Financial Need. Applicants must have maintained a B average during their senior high school year. Application Selection Criteria The scholarship committee of Machias Savings Bank will award scholarships based on the following criteria: Participation in extracurricular activities, including volunteer or work experiences Demonstration of financial need Transcript Application Process: Complete Cover Sheet and Student Information Form Student Essay explaining why the student is applying for this scholarship. Provide pertinent details about the applicant, the desired program of study, and long term goals. A complete high school transcript with cumulative grade point average. One (1) statement of support from Guidance Director or Principal. Two (2) statements of support from members of the community, such as a teacher, scoutmaster, pastor, etc. Deadline for application is April 7, 2017; Applications will not be considered if incomplete or postmarked after this date. (Attach a separate sheet) I certify that I am a permanent Maine resident, a high school or equivalent graduate, have maintained a grade point average of a B or better during my senior year, and that I am a full-time student. I further certify that all the information on this form is true and complete to the best of my knowledge. In addition, I will notify Machias Savings Bank of my grades and student status at first semester end. If I am awarded a Machias Savings Bank scholarship, I authorize the bank to use my name in news releases and other materials related to the bank's scholarship program. I further certify that any scholarship provided by Machias Savings Bank will be used to fulfill financial need, reduce loan amount, or reduce work-study commitment. 4 Letter of Recommendation To be considered for the Machias Savings Bank Scholarship, a student must obtain three statements of support, one from the Guidance Director or Principal and two from people within the community who have taught, led, coached, or worked with the student in some capacity and who know the student s character, commitment, and potential for success. You have been asked to recommend this student for this scholarship in this manner. We appreciate you taking the time to share with us your knowledge of this student so that we may be better prepared to select the most deserving student to receive this year s scholarship. Your statement of support should take the form of a letter describing to us your impressions of the student and why he or she is deserving of the scholarship.
