26 Legal Market: hiring trends & recent experience Public Service/Sector Government Honor Programs are either completely going away, losing funding or hiring significantly fewer law students and graduates. Paid federal government internships (which impact candidacy for post graduate employment) are decreasing more each year. More Public Defender and State Prosecutor Offices have adopted elite recruitment policies that focus hiring on graduates from elite schools. Maryland courts are paying judicial clerks at significantly lower rates compared with other state courts. More federal judges are requesting pro bono law clerks at the federal level Both Sectors Nationally, 1 in 7 graduates entered JD Advantage jobs; the rate has nearly doubled in 10 years.
