1 Instructions for Authors The Progress in Plant Protection (PPP) is the quarterly journal publishing original refereed research, short communications, general manuscripts and implementation manuals, and book reviews. Subject areas include broad range of plant protection. The PPP accepts papers in Polish and English from national and international research centers. The PPP is the important leading journal of new trends in crop protection. The PPP publishes the results of at least two-year studies. MANUSCRIPT SUBMISSION Manuscripts should be submitted electronically via Editorial Software System available at The PPP operates with a so-called double blind peer review policy, which means that both the author and the reviewer remain anonymous to each other to avoid reviewer bias. Please do not place names of authors in a manuscript. Authors are recommended to number pages at the bottom right hand corner. ESSENTAIL MATERIAL INFORMATION Material should be submitted in a A4 page format meeting the following requirements: - original scientific manuscripts 10 pages, - short communications 3 pages, - general manuscripts 15 pages, including text, tables, figures and references. PAGE FORMAT Page specifications: - document margins 1.8 cm, right 1.8 cm, top 2.8 cm, bottom 1.8 cm, - main text font: Times New Roman, - font size: 12 points, - line spacing: 1.5 lines ARTICLE ORGANIZATION First page: Title in English lowercase fonts (not bold), size font 12 points Title in Polish lowercase fonts (not bold), size font 12 points Title in English a pathogen/weed/pest name should be written first as a common name and followed by a Latin name in parenthesis Title in Polish a pathogen/weed/pest name should be written first as a common name and followed by a Latin name in parenthesis Summary (limit the text to 10 lines max characters with spaces), font size 9 points Key words: separated with semicolons, (max. 6 words), font size 9 points Words: Summary, Key words should be typed in bold, font size 9 points Summary must be complete and understandable without reference to the text. 1

Literatura / References (the citation-name system with an alphabetized reference list, unnumbered) Page Header (Żywa pagina in Polish, short title of an article in Polish and English with no more that 50 characters long with spaces or short dotted title under article text; font size 12 points ILLUSTRATIONS AND TABLES 1. Illustrations: - each illustration must be placed on a separate page, - description font Arial, - description should be in Polish first and after a hyphen in English beginning with a capital letter, - all lettering and labeling in Polish (e.g., Rys. 1) and English (e.g., Fig. 1) should be placed under an illustration, font Times New Roman; font size 9 points, - in text please use an abbreviation (fig. 1), while in description entire word, for example figure 1 presents 2. Tables: - large table must be placed on a separate page, 2-3 small tables can be placed on one page, - font : Times New Roman, - table title in Polish should be placed above a table (e.g., Table 1.) and below in English (e.g., Table 1.), font size 9 points, - header text in tables should be in Polish and after a hyphen sign in English, font size 9 points, - units should be typed in brackets for example [mg/kg], [%], - table footnote font size: 8 points, - a pathogen/weed/pest name should be written first as a common name in Polish and after a hyphen sign in Latin; for example pleśniakowiec lśniący Alphitobius diaperinus Panzer, - active ingredient name should be provided only in English, - in text please use an abbreviation (fig. 1), while in description entire word, for example figure 1 presents 2

3 FILE TYPES AND FORMATS All materials should be submitted in the following formats: - text (also tables) as a Microsoft WORD file, - chart, graphs as a Microsoft EXCEL including calculation sheet as a separate file, - vector graphics submitted as a CorelDRAW filel version 14, - bitmap (pictures) with a resolution at the required level of 300 dpi (format.tiff or.jpg). NOTES: - the entire name of disease/weed/pest must be provided in Latin at first citation in the text - species and genus name, and Latin names such as in vitro should printed in italics. Do not use italics for names of higher taxonomic rank for example Leptinotarsa decemlineata (Coleoptera, Chrysomelidae), - fractional units should be typed as / (e.g., g/l), do not use superscript (e.g., gl 1 ), - unit numbers or index numbers should be separated by space (e.g., at dose 1.5 l/ha), - percent symbol (%) and Celsius ( C) should be typed after a number without space (e.g., 35.5%, 20 C), - numbers in Polish should be written using a decimal comma 1,5 while in English a decimal point 1.5, - dash (en dash ) should be used for numerical ranges (e.g., 15,5 20,3), pages from to (e.g., ), numbers of units of measurements or indicators (e.g., 0 30 cm), years (e.g., ), - hyphen (short sign) should be used for expressions such as: 5-year-old, Poznań, mono- and dicotyledonous, Kowalska-Nowak, Warmińsko-Mazurski. LITERATURE In the text citation should be provided in parentheses, a name and - without the comma - the year of issue; chronologically (from oldest to newest) separated by semicolons, e.g., (Kowalski 1999; Kowalski and Nowak 2000; Kowalski et al. 2010). Semicolons should separate publications of the same author published in various years; following is an example (Kowalski 2000, 2010). Publications of the same author published in the same year should be followed by a lowercase letter, e.g., (Nowak 1999a, b). The References section must include all journal articles (both print and online), books and book chapters (both print and online), patents, theses and dissertations, published conference proceedings, meeting abstracts from published abstract books or journal supplements, book chapters, and books (publication title must be given). Each citation entry must be included in the text. The PPP requires an alphabetized reference list with order by authors surnames. Publications of the same author published in the same year should be listed with a lowercase letter, e.g., (Kowalski 2010a, Kowalski 2010 b). Do not cite unpublished materials. 3

4 The first line of each citation entry in the list of references should begin with a margin, and other lines of the same entry with an indentation. The names of publishers for journals and conferences should be given in full text, e.g., Progress in Plant Protection/Postępy w Ochronie Roślin, Journal of Applied Entomology, while for book publishers in abbreviation, e.g., PWRiL, PWN, APS Press, St. Paul, MN. In the description of the cited item, the following order of bibliographic record is required: 1.
