10 Early Stage Researcher (ESR) Experienced Researcher (ER) Academic sector Nonacademic sector DEFINITIONS At the time of recruitment (ITN) or secondment (RISE) by the host organisation, must be in the first 4 years (full-time research experience) of their research careers and have not been awarded a doctoral degree At the time of the call deadline (IF) or secondment (RISE) by the host organisation, must be in possession of a doctoral degree or have at least 4 years of full-time equivalent research experience Includes universities (public and private), higher education institutions (public and private), non-profit research institutions (public and private), research foundations, research institutions associated to foundations, international European interest organisations Includes any socio-economic actor not included in the academic sector Mobility Rule: At the time of the relevant deadline for submission of proposals, or recruitment/secondment by the host organisation, depending on the action, researchers shall not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc) in the country of their host organisation for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to the reference date.

12 RESEARCH AND INNOVATION STAFF EXCHANGE (RISE) Aim to promote international and inter-sector collaboration through research and innovation staff exchanges, and sharing of knowledge and ideas from research to market (and vice-versa) for the advancement of science and development of innovation Should involve institutions from the academic and non-academic sectors (particularly SMEs) based in MS/AC and/or third countries Development of joint research and innovation project partnerships Knowledge sharing via international and/or inter-sector mobility through two way secondments of (ESRs /ERs/support staff) with built-in return mechanism Exchanges between MS/AC only: secondments must be inter-sectoral Exchanges between MS/AC and third countries: secondments can be same sector and/or intersectoral
13 RESEARCH AND INNOVATION STAFF EXCHANGE (RISE) New type of exchange of staff action to stimulate transfer of knowledge and sharing of ideas Flexible inter-sector and international exchanges of highly skilled research and innovation staff Based on a common research and innovation project Secondments only, no recruitment foreseen Single eligibility rule for partnership consortia Exchanges between institutions within Europe cover only inter-sector secondments Exchanges with institutions from outside Europe can be both inter-sector and within the same sector No support for secondments between institutions located outside Europe
14 RESEARCH AND INNOVATION STAFF EXCHANGE (RISE) Participants must be from at least three different countries, at least two of which are MS/AC If all participants in same sector one participant country must be a third country Secondment periods: 1-12 months per person (does not need to be continuous) Total amount of secondments: person-months Activities of the programme

18 AWARD CRITERIA Experts will evaluate on the basis of following criteria: Excellence 50% Impact 30% Quality and efficiency of the implementation 20% Templates of the forms that experts use to evaluate proposals are available on the topic conditions pages for each call.
19 AWARD CRITERIA Evaluation scores awarded for each criteria from 0 to 5 Each award criterion has a weighting Total score is subject to a threshold of 70% Proposals ranked Proposals funded in ranking order Evaluation summary reports provided No restrictions on re-application 43% success rate for 1 st H2020 MC RISE call funding threshold cut-off was around 82%

Concisely describe the main categories of experts involved in the project and the knowledge they will exchange between themselves

EXCELLENCE (CONT D) Example from a high energy physics proposal Objectives The main objective of this project is to coordinate the action of a group of institutes and companies closely linked to the Crystal Clear Collaboration and presently involved in the development of micropulling-down crystal growth and other types of fibre technology enabling the fast and cheap production of heavy crystal scintillating fibres. During the project, the consortium aims to demonstrate: The feasibility of producing between 20 to 200 km of fibres (depending on calorimeter design) with consistent quality and well defined production costs A radiation hardness for these fibres such that the degradation of their optical properties is limited to about 10% after an integrated exposure of 1 MGy.

43 6. CAPACITY OF THE PARTICIPATING ORGANISATIONS Strict format and page limits: 1 page per beneficiary (i.e. EU/AC member) and ½ page per partner (i.e. third country member) e.g.
44 7. ETHICS ISSUES Check carefully if your project involves any ethical issues. If it involves third countries, then you will probably want to include the following: The project will respect fundamental ethics principles, including those reflected in the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union. The project involves participants from the following non-eu countries: Armenia, Belarus, Japan, Ukraine... The project involves participants from the following low and/or lower middle income countries: Armenia, Belarus and Ukraine. Benefits-sharing measures are foreseen. All the participants (beneficiaries and partner organisations) will sign a Consortium Agreement (based on the latest DESCA model consortium agreement) that will allow the highest level of protection for all participants both individually and collectively, following rules established by the EC and the participating organisations. The Consortium Agreement will govern disclosure of confidential information and ownership of intellectual property. Protection of foreground knowledge will be regularly discussed by the participants during the annual project meetings. Each participant will be responsible for the cost of protecting its own Intellectual Property, as well as its prosecution and enforcement. Participants co-owning patents will enter co-ownership agreements prior to their exploitation.
