The facility has a design capacity of 4.5 MGD (million gallons per day) with a peak flow of MGD. Wastewater is received at the facility via two pipes; a 24-inch force main from the downtown area and an 8-inch force main from the north side of town. The make-up of the wastewater is primarily domestic with some light industrial wastewater. The treated wastewater is permitted for discharge into the Pasquotank River. The sludge that is produced is thickened and stabilized with lime to meet Class B requirements as defined by EPA regulations then hauled to permit area in the county to be land applied.
