2 Göd The most popular attractions of this town are the thermal bath and the beaches of the Danube. The Kékperjési wetland and the Göd Island are environmentally protected areas. Famous Hungarian artists like the actor Kálmán Latabár, Aurél Bernáth and writer-poet János Arany often spent time in this small town, which is beloved by artists today as well. The world famous Hungarian race horse, Kincsem had its residence in the manor s stable from 1876 to The town has ferry service to two different directions: Horány and Surány. Dunakeszi Sződliget The Danube connects Dunakeszi and Vác and there is train service between the two towns as well. Significant changes took place in the life of the town when the railway traffic started. Alag is a small suburb of Dunakeszi, which is famous for its Roman style church from the 13th century. The only Hungarian racehorse training yard is situated here. Alag is very proud of its horse racing traditions. At the beginning of the century construction of holiday-houses started in this area. The tourist centre of the town can be found at the Danube. The town has a Protestant Church. Since the town is situated along the Danube, there is a yacht port here as well.

3 Vác Strand The View of the Town The town has a perfect location, and can be easily reached by train, boat, car or on the scenic bicycle roads along the Danube. Thanks to its easy accessibility, great location and many historic monuments, Vác has become very popular with tourists. On the Main Square (Március 15. tér) - which was rebuilt in there are beautiful baroque buildings, monuments and statues. The town s annual baroque festival (Váci Világi Vigalom) is a very popular event that welcomes visitors during the last weekend of July. Hungary s only triumphal arch (Kőkapu) is situated in Vác and is the symbol of town. Church of the Grey Friars Vác - often called the Sport-town of the Nation - is famous for its rowing and kayak-canoe sports and has many talented and successful competitors in water-sports. From Budapest to Szob there is a bicycle road along the river. In the southern part of town walkers and bicycle riders can reach the floodplain area near the Liget park, which has many nice walking paths. At the nearby Naszály Hill tourists can hike along the 5 kilometer long study trails of the Gyada Meadow. Walking Path in the Floodplain The street past the prison building takes you to the most beautiful promenade alongside the Danube. There are statues, playgrounds, a music pavilion, and the beautiful Danube River that please the eyes of visitors. In the summer you can also enjoy this scene while relaxing at the public pools near the promenade. Those who like water-polo can often see the training sessions of the Hungarian Olympic champion water-polo team here. The town has ferry service to the Szentendre Island. From early spring to late autumn tourists can enjoy the beautiful view of the Danube Bend from the hydrofoil and sightseeing boats. The boats stop at various ports, for example Vác, Nagymaros or Zebegény. Music Pavilion

5 Zebegény Szob István Szőnyi, the town s famous painter is buried in the nearby cemetery. His former home is a Memorial House today. Near the Szőnyi Memorial House you can find the Nautical Museum. Szob has is a yacht port for the enjoyment of the fans of watersports. There is ferry service between Szob and Pilismarót. The town, which is located alongside the Danube, is still very rich in natural beauty. It is surrounded by the Börzsöny Mountains and is part of the Danube - Ipoly National Park. The famous Hungarian composer Zoltán Kodály lived here from 1883 to The archeological, and scientific relics, artifacts, besides the ethnographical collections of the town are all on display in the Börzsöny Museum in the center of town. A unique part of the exhibition is the egg collection of a local folk artist, who decorated the eggs with tiny horseshoes. Further sights: Catholic Church, Luczenbacher Castle, Luczenbacher Chapel & Crypt, Ruins of a Roman guard tower. This small town is a popular vacation destination because of its beautiful location in the Danube Bend. Many artists live and work here. The most characteristic building of Zebegény is the Catholic Church built in secessionist style. Along the path to the top of Calvary Hill there are seven pictures painted on metal at the stations of the cross.

6 Verőce Visegrád Nagymaros St. John s Statue Nagymaros At beginning of the 20th century the cultural life of this town became active as many artists chose the community along the Danube as their holiday destination. The former house and yard of Hungarian ceramics artist Géza Gorka - who was given the prestigious Kossuth Award - is located here. Today it is a ceramics museum. (Szamos utca 22.) The layout and design of the buildings along the bank of the Danube are unique. The design is the work of well-known Hungarian architect Miklós Ybl. Other sights in the town are St. Andrew s Church, the Protestant Church and the Migazzi Castle. The town is beloved by tourists and vacationers due to its favourable location and natural beauty. People can enjoy a wonderful view of the Visegrád Castle and the Danube Bend from the 482-meter-high Julianus lookout tower. A well-known citizen of Nagymaros was Kálmán Kittenberger, the explorer of Africa. Every summer the town organizes Kittenberger Days to honour him. Kismaros The town is situated in a picturesque area at the foot of the Börzsöny Mountains, opposite the Castle of Visegrád and Szentendre Island. From Kismaros tourists can ride the little mountain train to a small town called Királyrét. From here they can hike to different scenic destinations in the mountains, like Kisinóc, Nagy-hideghegy or Csóványos. Other points of interest in the area are the cellars and press-houses of Dózsa Gy. Street as well as the Catholic Church and the museum. There is ferry service between Nagymaros and Visegrád. Tourists can continue their trip on the 33 km long Queen Beatrix bicycle road on the other side of the Danube as well.
