1 HKBU EDUC 7710 Language Arts Lesson Plan Count On Me By Bruno Mars (Using songs) 1 Teachers: Ho Kwan Wah Doris, Kwong Choi Fung Zoe, Ma Kit Wah Sady, Sham Sze Wai Sarah, Class: P.6 Date: 7 th March 2012 Time: 50minutes Subject: English (Language Arts) Learning Targets for Key Stage 2 (P.4-6) To develop an awareness of the basic sound patterns of English and an enjoyment of imaginative texts through activities such as reciting poems and rhymes, singing songs and presenting short simple plays. (Key Learning Area Curriculum Guide (2002) P.31) Learning Objectives: To provide pupils with learning experiences and exposure to patterned language and rhymes through songs and to enhance students interest to learn English through songs. By the end of the lesson, pupils are able to: 1. understand the use of literacy devices, rhyme, metaphor, simile and repetition in songs 2. learn about the importance of friendship 3. use language in an imaginative and creative way by creating lyrics Language focus: Sentence structure: If I, you ll Vocabulary / phrases about friendship Previous knowledge: Pupils have learnt some songs and short poems. Pupils have some understanding of rhymes. Pupils have also learnt conditional sentence. Resources: PowerPoint, video, media, markers, big drawing paper, lyrics

(trust, rely on, depend on) Pps listen to T T Pps mins While-singing Activity 1 Sing the Song Count on me T Pps Increase Pps T plays the video of the song. Pps watch and T Pps enjoyment through T delivers the lyrics to the class. listen listening to the song T divides the class in groups of three or four. and singing together T invites the groups to read the lyrics aloud. Pps read the lyrics. Help understand the

3 T explains the first verse of the lyrics and introduces the literacy devices that appear in the song, rhyme and metaphor. T further explains the chorus and the rest of the lyrics and introduces the concept of simile. T sings the first verse and the chorus with the class. T sings the whole songs with the class and introduces the concept of repetition. T reminds the class to pay attention to the literacy devices learned while singing the song again.
